Arrival: Saturday, 5:00 pm.

Hot water, safe, big closet, plenty of hangers, alcohol / beverages on-hand for an additional expense, secured parking available, etc. Etc.

Scooter rental (moto automatico) was over 1. 000.000 for 10 days, compared to much less for 30 days in Nov / Dec. Thus, I am using Uber, which is ridiculously cheap (also could download InDriver or Didi). Electric scooters to get around short distances can be found using Grin app.

SmartFit Tesoro is still amazing; just loads of talent in the mornings, and then you can hit a restaurant or do some shopping, in the mall. It costs less than $2 each way for an Uber. If you are short-term, you can buy a month online, then register when you get to the gym. Cancel before you leave, and it's not too bad. Approx. 150.000 COP. If you are only going to workout a few times, just go to a BodyTech, bring your ID / Passport, and ask for a free trial. If you have multiple IDs, you can go to 2-3 different locations, and do the same thing. Charlee Hotel has a really cool gym that is worth doing a single workout at (expensive).

Ok, now to the meat.

I popped into Hooters on Saturday night to oogle the staff and watch UFC fights. I always sit at the bar, and they are very friendly. Sometimes when it is busy, the service can be lacking, but that's fairly consistent with all Colombian restaurants / bars. I decided to just go to Gusto's, as I didn't pre-plan anything for my first night. In terms of infrastructure, we need to admit that places such as China and Colombia have surpassed us, this is not a unique problem in the USA,

The infrastructure in US is built for cars. Most of what you mentioned really come down to one thing, that is everything is cheaper, but not better if you don't make price comparison.

Medellin Metro is good for what they can afford but it still lacks many things. It's not handicap friendly for one. It is an inferior system when compare to others around the world.

We can't compare one city to the whole country. Even Medellin is not representative of Colombia, and you are only seeing the more affluent area of Medellin.

I think you are right from your perspective. From my perspective, I think California is the greatest place on Earth because with seasonal changes, there are so many outdoor activities one can do. The only drag is the traffic has become unbearable. I got bored in Medellin if I am here just for vacation.

You are probably better off hanging out at Parque Lleras Thursday through Sunday night. I am not sure about earlier in the week, Colombia is nothing like Thailand. I have not been to Pattaya but I have been to The red light districts in Bangkok and Phucket. The only bar where you can go to find all hookers is Gusto and it is $200 usd, where as right outside Gusto and just across the street in Lleras Park one can often find a pretty chica for 200 K pesos Colombian - (currently around $52 usd). Medellin is not a city with a lot of English speakers but Poblado and Parque Lleras are the areas that cater to gringos the most. On a busy night you can just about treat the Lleras Park as a bar, I did there are open air liquor stores where you can buy a cold bottle of beer and then walk around the park checking out the locals and sizing them up, I am an overweight balding guy in my fifties, if I a get a look from a chica I can pretty much tell she is a prepago so then I smile real big and if she smiles back, its most likely so then I just ask her "ests trabajando?

Thanks, I took 3 years of Spanish in college so I know a bit and don't really have a problem exploring. It was my first visit to Colombia and for sure it will not be the last time. I'm already looking at the calendar to plan for my next trip back to Medellin. Having mongering in DR, Panama, Jamaica, Chile and Cuba, IMHO, nothing beats Medellin, price and quality wise. Beautiful girls are just so affordable, you can't brain how it works. I believe in the principles upheld by the USA Constitution, and I genuinely love America as a country. I relish the intellectual freedom one enjoys in American universities, and I have benefited immensely from the highly evolved entrepreneurial culture in America. When 9/11 took place, I was a poor college freshman who frequently has to choose between buying food or marijuana (needless to say, I chose weed every time), I still donated money to the people in NYC. When Obama was running for president, I gave money to his champing, and when the opportunity to claim more tax return arises, I always turn it down.

In terms of infrastructure, we need to admit that places such as China and Colombia have surpassed us, this is not a unique problem in the USA, most of the older developed countries such as Switzerland and Denmark all have fossilized infrastructures. I was in the FKK Globe in Zurich last summer during the heatwave, that place has no A. C; every room in the Globe is over 100 F.

If there is something I can do to help America build better infrastructure, I will. But pretending the issue doesn't exist will certainly not help.

I will be in Medellin for the first time this Wednesday and staying for a week. I did my research and read through the thread. I also am meeting some friends that have been there before. I have mongering experiences in the DR (3 times) Costa Rica twice and Aruba.
