Generally speaking when anyone mentions El Centro they are talking about the street scene unless they specifically mentioning the bars or strip clubs. The street scene is mostly done at 8 pm. The chance of you finding an acceptable partner at 1 am is maybe 5% and a hottie at that time is about. 01%. Everyone knows you can do it. But we simpletons are not you. Regardless, how is AT&T's service worldwide. Do they offer what Verizon does. As an example, while travelling in Monteverde and Albania (not places to monger) last fall, I switched over to the $ 10 a International day plan and my phone functioned like I was at home in the US.

AT&T offer the same international plan, for 9. 99 a day you get the "international day pass". You can use your phone and your data plan around the world just as if you are in the USA The coverage in Medellin is great. However, with AT&T, this service is not available in some regions of the world, for example, it is not available in Cuba and the Philippines.

If you have an iPhone, iCloud should have automatically backed up all your data.

It's an eSIM in the iphone, similar but not quite the same thing. I should have mentioned that people who travel internationally on a regular basis are best served by networked unlocked phones. Network unlocked means the phone will accept any SIM card. The iphone and other phones with eSIMs that also support a physical SIM will work the way I described. You can activate spare SIM cards from the home country from outside the country.

IPhone accepts an esim and a sim card. There is another version of iPhone not sold is US has two sim cards tray.

Google Fi which I have recommended on this forum many times for its low cost international data provides an easy solution. You can check your voicemails and text messages from any internet connection. I dropped my phone on the first day (in the immigration hall) of my last month long MDE trip. While nothing cracked, the screen died. I quickly accessed all my text messages, voice mails and even made and received phone calls from my tablet and backup phone using Google Hangouts. Transferring my whatsapp and other critical apps over took 10 minutes. No time consuming calls. If you phone is stolen, you can wipe the phone with the click of a button. Google also provides a 2nd sim card which I already had in a cheap backup cell phone ($60 Moto G6). I was surprised how well that cheap phone met my needs. Like you I'm concerned about loosing my phone (for all the same reasons) so I travel with a cheap backup. I don't bother with a local Colombian number any more, it is just too convenient to have one number and one main phone. BTW Google replaced my phone under warranty after I returned to the US, it had no cracks or dents on it. There were some limitations with Iphones, which I think could be one of the few negatives with Google if you are an Iphone aficionado. They have information about that on their web site.

The following are my concerns regarding carrying cell phones around Medellin.

I have two cell phones. One is my USA cell phone, an "I" phone, with Verizon service in the USA. It's my lifeline with my kids, business, and other matters in the USA. If I lose it or it gets stolen, there is no way I can get my number replaced in Colombia. That is what Verizon has told me. Hence it doesn't leave my apartment unless I am going somewhere very specific, etc. And I am grateful that when I got held up by gunpoint with my Chica about a month ago that they didn't go thru my pockets. All of my WhatsApp contacts are on this phone, everything. To further illustrate, when I use my ATM / Credit cards here I sometimes get text messages to confirm transactions. And all kinds of other types of text messages. So without my cell phone I can get blocked out of pulling money out of ATM's and then have to make a whole bunch of time consuming phone calls.

I am sure there are other ways around this for the technical savy guy's on this board which I am not.

It's even easier than that. In spite of what Apple propaganda promotes, you don't really need their hardware to restore icloud content or iPhone configuration backups. I agree a spare iPhone (or an unlocked one you buy if and when you need it) avoids the need for anything beyond contacting your carrier. Also, you don't have to be an at&t customer, any GSM based carrier (anything other than Sprint or Verizon) can do the same thing.

If you have att as your service provider, then just bring an extra iPhone and an extra att SIM card. Make sure you have a way to check your email (needed for two factor authentication) and make a phone call to att without your phone. I typically have an iPad and a MacBook hidden somewhere, I use Skype to call att. Att can activate your SIM card on your backup iPhone, iCloud will restore all your contents and settings. You will be up and running with your US phone in matter of minutes, like you never lost it.

The Tall Man posts much less often that he use to but for what it is worth just wanted to share my experience from yesterday (Saturday January 25,2020) and my visit to 2 casas in Medellin which I have not done in 2 or 3 years.

8 or 9 years ago I frequented the casas but much less in the intertwining years. It has been about 2 plus years since my last visit to New Life and a good 3 plus years since my last visit to Energy.

As you might summarize I am not much of a casas person anymore as I find the off the radar, non-pro or chicas needing financial help more my style here in Medellin, but wanted to see what exactly would I experience and if / how things may have changed over the past 8 or 9 years at these two casas.

So I started at ENERGY, decent line up at about noon on Saturday January 25th, maybe a dozen chicas ranging from 6. 5 to on a good day a 7.5 scale, I choose a costena, 25 yo, slender dark skinned but on hell of a smile, a good choice as she was professional but just enough playfulness to make the 1 hour very enjoyable.

BTW. The cost for ENERGY is now at 145,000 for 45 minutes and 160,000 for 1 hours.

So after my one hour at Energy I made my way over to New Life. Upon entering there were about 8 other guys sitting and waiting for their turn or still making their selection. The parade of chicas made their way around and they had probably 15 give or take in the line up, chicas of all sorts of body type and skin color, I would say they ranged from 6 to a solid 8, I was much more impressed by the selection and overall quality.

Well they had 3 very slender chicas that got my grove so the most difficult part is making the final selection as any one of the 3 were made to order for my style.

I choose the 19 yo Venezuelan Bianca, thin with not an ounce of body fat and the face an angle, kid you not. She is new and very inexperienced, little kissing but with a body and a face she could be a teen model for Abercrombie & Fitch, kid you not, just the thrill of having sex with this beauty is worth the price of admission.

The cost of 1 hour at New Life was 80 mil as I recall, also purchased a Gatorade for the both of us.

So all in all I enjoyed my return to ENERGY and New Life after a 3 plus year haitus.

I must admit that it is a nice change up to my regular centro, non-pro and stable of girls that I usually see. The price is right and I was satisfied with both my chicas at New Life and ENERGY.

Would I return, yes it is what it is. While in both casas I could not help but to reminisce in my mind about some truly unforgettable and absolutely incredible experiences that I had at both places back 8 and 9 years ago.

I was on biz trip to SP Brazil 3-4 years ago, stayed in the hotel with round windows and brought girls from the upscale clubs for dinner / drinks on my company dime which helped reduce the overnight allowance I gave them.

While I love your comparison and agree that SP has a large number of high end upscale clubs, I struggled to find student-type, innocent looking, unspoilt girls in the age group that I prefer (18-22). Reminded me of Mayfair in London. Love story is the only place I could find that is where I could find them, and that's seedy and far from upscale. The designated upscale Hi-end clubs in SP most girls were in the 25-35 group in those clubs, and I went to all of them. It's a personal preference, but I don't like girls who've been around the block so to speak, even if they are Gucci-clad.

That's why I prefer seedier Medellin (and where I can avoid places like Gusto filled with fake boobs).

For the reason you stated above, plus I can find girls for way less money than in the high end clubs.

Also, trust me, I've been hanging in SP for over 15 years, it can be just as seedy as Medellin, and the younger (18-22) girls are available.

You just have to know where to explore and find them.

And there is way less other gringo competition for them.

Any reason I am seeing so many more women with tattoos in Medellin than other cities like Bogota or Barranquilla? In the USA, I do not mind a tattoo or two but usually when women have gobs of them, they are usually trash. I know that is a stereotype, but is there anything like that in Colombia?

My perception, based on many years visiting, is that chicas from the low-end barrios are much more likely to have tatoos, especially larger tatoos that are often not well done. That said, some of the girls I have met with tatoos (even bad ones) can be very sweet. It's just part of their barrio life, I guess. I personally can tolerate a few smaller tatoos, but I do not go with chicas who are covered with them or have large, ugly ones. It's a turn-off for me.

I agree with ColombianLover, I have been with chicas with tattoos who are very sweet and they come from the poorer barrios. I think after looking at many many FB profiles and the older photos of these chicas that most of them seem to get the tattoos when they are young teens and tweens before they are old enough to know any better.
