I agree that $3 k is a lot to take, but note that the FDIC insures this iup to $250 k per account. As someone who was scolped last November (by a 'non pro on 3rd date') no less, and had $25 k taken from me between credit cards and bank accounts, Charles Schwab and Chase were iron clad and stand up. Citibank not so much. I was eventually made completely whole, but some banks I found better than others.

I was going to make this post on Best Practices, but I figured I'd reply it to your comment since you mentioned it:

These Rules will keep you alive, keep you from getting drugged or Scolped. Nothing is guarantee but your chances of encountering those issues are highly reduced:

1. Don't get drunk in the bars, clubs, or in the streets alone. If you're with friends it's usually OK.

2. Drugs, drugs, drugs, THIS is a choice that increases your chance of being among troubled chicas (especially if they do drugs also which is many of them). You made your own bed at this point.

3. We've all read about covering our drinks. Not leaving our drinks unattended. This one's on you.

4. Leave the gullible, everything is like a flowery pink paradise, I'm a rich (poor at home) gringo while in Medellin mindset behind.

5. Pretend you're hanging out or passing through the most dangerous hood in the US. Be observant of your surroundings, and you can do this without being paranoid.

6. Have a system. I've read some fellas do not bring girls to their main spot, or have a spare room, some leave their cash or main cellphone in safes, and only be outside with small amounts of cash or 1 credit card, or what they're willing to lose. This is what I do. I use the MotelNow app, which I learned about in a post here; basically lists all the love motels in Col you can use to bring girls for as cheap as 20 k pesos for few hrs. No excuses.

7. This may sound silly, but don't use fingerprints to unlock your phone, I don't know why this was invented bc anyone can drug / dose you and unlock your phone w your finger. Memorize a password duh. Same with your banks and money apps, do not have them auto-login or password saved. Every single person that have had money stolen while drugged is due to those. Come on, technology does make us lazy, and it's ok while at home on our day to day jobs, busy lifestyles. But if we're traveling to very poor countries with aggressive hawkers and gangsters everywhere, of which many wish to melt you for $20 why would you not adjust at least while there? I've worked in IT support and even in the states most consumer hacks / breaches which arent really hacks are due to lazy users or folks that auto-save every password in their browsers, phones, etc. Wives catching cheating husbands, vice and versa for using those features LOL. Yes these Col chicas will drug you and drain your accts so don't make it easy.

8. Stay away from dating apps, or do very very good video interviews. Do not do threesome unless it's with someone you've known for a while.

9. The comment above mentioned he was drugged on the 3rd date. Do yall remember the good ol mongering rule of "DO NOT REPEAT"? It is for this exact reason. Do not repeat dates with hawkers, and investigate better to confirm that they are truly non-pros if they claim to be. What's to stop them from lying? Nothing. Generally speaking and as a rule of thumb, if your in an Apartment building that is directly west facing with no shade from other buildings, you will want to definitely rent a Unit with AC, especially if your in a higher building. The difference can be like night and day in the same building depending on the direction of the Unit.

Also something you may not of considered is noise. Not all buildings have dual pane or sound reducing windows, especially the older buildings.

Hence you may find a Unit with AC, but because of the surroundings, like a busy road below, the noise can be an issue.

Most of the newer apartment buildings are equipped to have AC units, but they commonly don't exist in the older buildings.

For this reason, most Colombians do not like AC.

May seem odd, but that's the way it is in Medellin.

Unless the apartment has an extreme exposure to direct sun no AC is needed. In all my trips to Medellin I think it was only hot one time, and that was only around 30 see.

Planning to visit Medellin in Sept 2nd week. I went to Medellin few times so far and it was always a great experience. I stayed in Laureles, San Peters Apartments all of the times and I know the area pretty well. But this time I am planning to stay in El Poblado, can anyone please suggest any girl friendly hotels in that area or Airbnbs that you are aware of, looking for one with a Jacuzzi. Fun times in Medellin. My brother and I met up with Linda and Daniella to come over to our apartment in Laureles. Haven't posted in awhile but I did want to say, the last few times I've visited the casas and / or El Centro in general, the talent has fallen off noticeably since the pandemic. Some places have closed, there are less girls working, and the ones around don't look as good. Last time I was at a casa was about a month ago. When I travel I use my Charles Schwab debit card. Reason 1: it refunds me for additional POS fees. I do not know how they can do it without losing money, but they do it. Reason 2: I do not want to have my main account debit card with me, in case of issue they can potentially take a lot of my money. On Charles Schwab, instead, I keep at max 2-3 thousands USD. I keep the other Credit and Debit card in the hotel safe, or hidden somewhere.

They know you have more money. Best you keep all your money in your main acct and easily accessible. This is so that you can give it all to your kidnappers without delay. Otherwise they will start chopping your fingers off one by one and posting them home. As we speak I am typing this with my remaining 3 toes. Its a struggle, I tell you.
