Much better to hang out in la 45 in Manrique where you can huff, puff, and snort at the clubs like everyone else and you won't see any gringos within a 10 mile radius. I suggest clubs Praga or Zenith for anyone interested, but make sure you go with a girl you know. Interesting how some locals stay away from Manrique due to perceived danger and its lower estrata. This is my first trip using the classifieds. I went to Santa Marta twice, the first time no upset tummy. Second time I got a Parasite infection. The water and sanitation is an issue there. During my two visits I stayed away from anything that wasn't either cooked or could be peeled. Yes of course you need to drink bottled water there and brush your teeth with it. But eating salads and uncooked vegetables / fruits is another matter, as they don't use purified water to wash things.

When I got the parasite infection, the Doctor in Medellin who diagnosed what I had explained to me there lot's and lots of people who get parasite infections in that region. As careful as I was, I still got sick. If you read the Santa Marta board you will read similar stories to mine, however there are a few who have had no problems there. But more people had problems than didn't.

I am not discouraging people from going there. You can get excellent seafood there, and there is an abundant amount of Chicas available!

One thing I didn't tell the woman Doctor I saw was that I had munched on a Santa Marta Chica, maybe that's how I got the Parasite infection.

During my first visit to Medellin in 2004 I saw not one gringo in the city the week that I was there. However, I do not believe an influx of gringos caused a decline in quality of chicas. BlueChange, thanks a lot for the advice! I got an Airbnb on my last trip in Bogota in March, but have already booked the hotel and that's how I feel like starting off the trip. I don't like bringing chicas back to my place much, so that benefit of an Airbnb doesn't really apply. For me, the benefit is being more homely and being able to cook etc. Might get one in Santa Marta for example. By the way I was also there in March and also didn't really have any stomach issues.

Hotel Esplendor 70 told me that only people with a Colombian cedula could check in. However, Suites 44, on Carrera 70 A and Calle 44 had no problems. Rooms are small and clean with Air conditioning and hot water. Can't remember the price, but it was reasonable.

Walking from Laureles to El Centro is a bit of a hike. There's only a narrow curb to walk on when crossing the bridge over the Autopista. I've done the walk a few times, including once after dark.

Easier way is to take the metro. From your hotel, if I'm understanding you, just walk north to the Estadio Metro station. Get on the train going to San Antonio. San Antonio is the last stop. From there you can either go down and get on the train to Niquia or just walk. Parque Berrio is the next station north and most convenient for the casas.

The metro is safe. I've had people warn me that my phone was sticking out of my pocket, that my backpack was unzipped and that my shoes were untied. I even fainted once, due to a blood sugar problem. The other passengers ran to get help, kept the train from leaving and helped me up.

I've also walked from Belen back to Laureles, at night. There are a few blocks that might make you nervous, at night, but nobody bothered me.

If you decide to go to Belen and you're in El Centro, get on the Metro going towards La Estrella and go to Industriales station. Follow the signs for the L1 and L2 bus line. Hop on the bus going to you de M. These are dedicated bus lanes similar to the Transmilenio in Bogota.

Why would you think those things are standard? You just called them extras. If you order a pizza and tell them you want double the meat and extra cheese, wouldn't you expect to pay extra?

When you're dealing with any of the online prepago advertising sites, expect there to be a full price list. You may get extras without being charged, but it's a lot easier to deal with getting something for nothing, than to find out you didn't bring enough cash to get what you want.

My first visit to Venezuela was in 1975, I remember being absolutely blown away by the women in Caracas. The only comparisons to having been impressed by the beauties to that extent have been on visits to Italy and Argentina. I like the way you compare things. When I went to Buenos Aires several times between 2002 and 2010, the choice of hookers was fantastic, I would say they were definitely better looking than the average woman on the street. Just after the financial crash of 2001, gorgeous regular women were easily available online, ie ones that wouldn't normally have been working. Same goes for Budapest between say 2005 – 2012, whereas now I would say you see way more gorgeous women walking about there than are available online. The scene there has gone downhill big time. In Bogota, I would say the incidence was about even, gorgeous ones out from their offices at lunchtime and working girls. So basically, I would say the more the country's economy is in trouble, the more chance you will have of getting a hooker who is as good looking as the gorgeous ones you see in the mall!
