I have been reading this forum and doing online research every night, trying to get a better understanding for what I am in for when I get to Medellin for 10 days in March. I am taking FaceTime Spanish lessons twice a week until I leave which is on top of a very basic foundation (2 years in high school and 1 in college. I'm 40 so it's been a while). My AirBnB is set, and it will be great based on my discussion with the owner and some reviews here. I feel like 10 days is plenty of time to have fun with the chica activities, see the sites, and maybe even make a real friend or two. So, generally speaking and thankful to a lot of the guidance I have received here, I think I am setting myself up for a good time.

I would like to get a little more insight as to how I should prepare for and approach traveling and staying alone in Medellin. Here are a few questions I have:

1. I am not a big guy. Like 5'9 160. I'm toned, fit, and athletic but I am not going to intimidate anyone. Do you think it would be unwise of me to go to bars / clubs in El Pablado or Laurales by myself at night? I know there is no certainty to anything being safe or dangerous but if I am careful, not getting wasted, am I going to be ok going out for a drink or dancing?

2. I think I have decent radar for people that are trying to pull some bull shit. Like a woman that is faking her attraction of me in order to take advantage of me. In other words, I am not going to buy bottles for a crew of blazing hot chicks that I know wouldn't otherwise giving me the time of day. My question is, do you guys have experiences when a girl has been totally normal (almost conservative) and then totally turned on you into one of the crazies?

3. How safe / acceptable is it to pick up chicas on the street in El Pablabo on the weekend? Provided they pass the sniff test for me (granted, again nothing is guaranteed), if I start walking with one of these broads and we get into a taxi / uber am I going to get shaken down by a police officer just for being with her?

4. Anyone ever been to club MUTE in Itagui? I'm into techno / house music and the place looks wicked. But I haven't seen much info on Itagui and there are always shady people in clubs like this. I am totally comfortable with them here in the states but wondering if it's not a smart move going by myself to that area and that scene in Colombia.

I did not find any luck with FB girls so I decided to open an account on colombian cupid. After paying $59.99 for 3 months, I received tons of responses from women between 31 and 46 years of age. Most of them are in the range of 4 and have a job. All of them gave me their whattsapp number, so I can communicate with them on phone and see them on camera. I honestly have not been to Colombia yet (I am going in a month), but I have been on cupid and I can confirm that a first copy and paste message to 10 girls will get you a phone number in most cases (assuming they read the message) if you ask for it. Are you emailing women under 31 or just waiting for women to message you?. The women I have spoken to are 90% available for PFP if you ask them. It is almost shocking. And the ones that are not interested in PFP have been nice and will keep talking to you (if you want to continue with them). My objective has been to get them off the cupid website right away. Cupid can ban you for being honest and direct, but they can't see your whatsapp conversations. My advice is to send emails that lead to a number request, and get down to serious business over whatsapp. And send lots of message to the girls you like. I am sure my opinion may sway when I get there next month.

For my next trip to Medellin, I would love to unload about 15,000 Mexican pesos I have. I want to exchange them in Medellin for Colombian pesos. I imagine though that you get a terrible exchange rate just like when you exchange dollars for COP.

You are 100% correct on what you said. Seen prettier and / or stunners (occasional) in the streets / Metro. It just that I expected more quality in those places.

I also want to be clear to everyone that I had pleasant experiences with all my in-call and out-call girls, no one showed any attitude, rushing or anything. However, I would caution about your conclusion to avoid Fase II and Energy. You may have gone on a bad night for those clubs. Also, Loutron is generally viewed as an overpriced joint, never been there myself though.

However, that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with those places. Energy, for example, I had a session there with a girl who I would never have picked, except for the look in her eyes. Prep work Before the trip:

Read every post for the past year or so. Reached out to Medellin mongers with a public and private requests for specific contacts. Haven't received any good contacts from anyone. Booked San Peters Suites in Laureles via AIRBNB. Fantastic location with everything (Exito, Medical shops, Metro station and lots of local restaurants and food options) nearby. I used the ATM to withdraw the COP's and the exchange rate was way better than Money changer rates.

Day1:

Never had a plan to visit El centro to avoid safety and health hazards.

You're going to want to do some basic research. Parque Lleras is an area that's located in Poblado. You can't stay in Parque Lleras without staying in Poblado, although you can stay in Poblado and not in Parque Lleras.

Some of the high end hotels are girl friendly. Some aren't. Simply email the hotels you are interested in and ask about their guest policy.

There are several rentals around Parque Lleras or convenient to Parque Lleras that are girl friendly. You can also search for Poblado Rentals and First American Investment Realty for 2 companies offering girl friendly apartments.
