But I must add, I was a in the bathroom for a long time taking care of a small wound. So special circumstances. It happend in Manizales so I dicovered the withdrawls after coming home to Medelin after the weekend. I was also on strong antibiotics and took tramadol for the pain, which made me blurry and forgot / skipped my own secutrity precautions which I'm normally very strict about.

After that I enhanced my security routines even more. I put a thick chain on my closet and hid the chain with having cloth hangning on the door of it. Crazy!

Twice I have been robbed during 12 longer visits South America 2003-2019.

And in Medellin or Buenos Aires, where I lived one year (x2) , I must have taken taxis like 3 x 365 x2 = around 2000 times.

But these two events still scares me! I will always be a little afraid and hence loose some of the pleasure!

But also; different cards. Two-factor verification.

Anything that complicates for the robber and anything that minimize losses.

Then put US3. 000 on a "mental account" for robbery-losses. I have put such robbery-reserve money on my parents accounts, of which codes, numbers I know nothing!

You can also have a weekly budget and get money send to you and pick them up at WU, being robbed on the last day you maybe jusy have 100 dollars.

But all in all; the dangerous things for tourists are still; traffic accidents!

But here at home, the risk is the same, but the security program is turned -off, you don't except nothing to happen! While in Latin America, the security issue take away some of the pleasure, you are a little afraid in the back of your head, always! Which can destroy relations where no harm was never intended!

The one thing I did last year is open a savings account that doesn't have ATM cards attached to them. Money can only be ach withdrawn to a checking account. There is no way a criminal will know the account exists unless you have the app on your phone which you should never leave after ACH. Delete download delete download. The most they can steal is what you ACH. Only ACH what you need and then withdraw in pesos every couple days from a checking account that charges no international fees.

Yeah, I think there are plenty of good looking Colombian women, but no more so than in most other countries. But they do like to splash the make-up here. And I often wonder if MDE gets star comments mostly from guys come from a country where most of the women are ghastly or unattainable.

You do not lose your own will, you wre just more open to suggestion. Like someone could say you need to hurry up and pay this bill. What is your pin so I can get the money for you? You probably don't want to label yourself as a "sex tourist. " It's a pejorative that that can lead people to think underage or anything else forbidden. It's out there no need to have "sex tourist" on your forehead.

The reality is that if your an older male, and an obvious gringo, you will automatically be considered a "sex tourist" by most Colombians.

There's no way around this.

It goes with the territory here, and what might be considered embarrassing here may occur when a monger is with a young tart, at least 30 years younger than you, and they get the look of shame depending on where you are.

I have been in a few hotel elevators with a young tart in tow, a family enters the elevator, and the wife typically gives me a very dirty look, and the husbands at times are are having a wet dream, especially when their wife is like a sack of potatoes. LOL.

Yesterday I boarded the Metro at the Poblado Station around noon headed towards Centro.

Upon departing the station there was an announcement in Spanish to guard your valuables including phones, etc.

And then to my surprise the announcement was made in English by the same speaker and it wasn't a recording.

This is the first time I have ever heard an announcement of any type in English on the Metro, maybe it's been going on awhile, or maybe just around the tourist areas, but definitely a shock to hear an announcement in English on the Metro.

This is just another example of how popular and touristy Medellin has become and the changes taking place.

But all the hype I had read about Medellin and the girls of Colombia simply was not true according to a "boots on the ground" observation with my own eyes.

I lived in Arequipa for a semester and studied. The best looking prepagos where Colombianas, which came there since they simply look so much better on avergae.

The mansion would probably not meet your requirements, it is nothing like a brothel where there are a variety of girls wandering around that you choose from. These are working girls from their own places that come in to the hotel, not in any way employed or controlled by the hotel, and may be available. During the day there may only be a very few or none sometimes. You say "plenty of girls". That will never be the case. Anything between none and maybe 6? I have not stayed there recently but during the day it was only a few around. At night they come into the bar next door, same as they might in any bar, and try to get business that way. It is a small bar so anything over 6 girls would be a lot. If you have very specific requirements I can almost guarantee there will never be one or two. Of course I have no idea what you consider medium quality or your type.

I agree, but when you have learned the lingo and can communicate fluently; this "sex-turist" factor becomes a minor factor.

But 95% don't speak Spanish or rudimentary.

I learn this by avoiding anglosaxon and other light skinned people and where they hang and got my own oscial phere, with foreigners, but they are a majority and they also speak Spanish.

Then again; people doesn't care so much in medellin, all men go to prepagos. All married men I know in Colombia gos to prepagos. You can even discuss which clubs or girls which are the best with your professors in Spanish at La UPB!

I would say; if you don't hunt females, for relationship or sex or both, then you are considered gay or strange!

I have to say hands down it is the apartments. The apartments in Medellin are sooo overpriced for Airbnb. Not only for daily but monthly as well. You get way way more bang for your buck in Bogota for housing. It isn't even keeping up with inflation. Places that were 500-600 a month are now 1400 a month in less then 2 years time. I could see if it went up to like 900 or someting but to have it more then double and ONLY in medellin is insanity. It sucks and I don't think it will change unless Colombia puts in a law of some sort.

Medellin is like barcelona or milan, turin, they have a entrepreneurial gene.

When voilence now is not pressing down economic activity, growth pops-up by itself, also like Beirut!

Liberal culture, easy to do business, easy to get females.

Bogotá is stagnating, it have had a long period of growth but now macro factors are pointing in the wrong direction.

A paia friend have been buying 3 apartments the last decade and he runs a small resturant and they are now worth 300 k COP each, at least 100% growth since 2015.

The resturant pays the bills, the pension, richness comes from his apartments. And not having time to spend them on casinos or prepagos, his novia is a beauty but very hard discling him!

The whole motoway / freewy access to Rio Grande Airport, and other areas are filled with new de luxe.

They say 50% of emplyed people in Medellin are informal, 85% in he rural areas around, so GNP / capita etc is hard to estimate.

Moving money to tax paradises.

65-75% are truly hard working and poor, 10-20% are just rake home the profits.

The optimism, this gives growth, 2000-2019 people in absolute poverty fell by 1% by year from 30% to 10% in medellin.

Still many have a life =all waking hours are working hours! . Monday to Sunday.

But it's also a human phenomonen, migration. Latin people March from Brazil to USA. It's a thing humans do.

If you are getting prices in Colombia that equat to 100 and 200 euro, you are looking in the wrong place. Colombia is much, much cheaper than Spain (if you stay out of Gusto's) but it's also much, much more dangerous. But, you have the time and cost of the flight, so you'd need probably at least a week or ten days to break even on the sex. Spain has women from all over the world and Colombia has women from Colombia and Venezuela. Would I go to Colombia if I lived in the UK? No. If I was sick of Spain I would go to Bratislava. Lots of really great looking women there, although a totally different look from the latinas.

Colombia is a lot cheaper, but to break even and also do the other things museeums, resturants, Toro at Macarena (or is it banned), a lot of places. Bogota is cold, but around the capital there are valleys that a at low altitude and hence warm, 25-35 Celcius, go there w a girl or 2, it's like what santiago de Antioquia is for Medellin. 2 weeks is to short for me, one month at least. Avoid overpriced areas as Poblado. In Laureles, the hugh middle-class area, prices for any service is much lower, the same quality of girls, resturants and AUTENTIC. Poblado feels ARTIFICAL.

Poblado; paisa friends said it's new rich, criminals and overpriced prepagos who excell there, so the "old" money moved to other areas. All prepagos think Poblado is top, for me it's a red flag, why pay Western Europe prices in Colombia?, I never go there, I speak Spanish so I prefer laureles, Estadio or even centro.

Madrid is a fantastic city; medellin can¡t compete with that, but has a ace; it's always, 365 days a year, 25 celcius. No winter, spring, autumn, always summer, , even if it is called City of the eternal spring (25 is like July in Europe, not March / April).

I find colombian people, especially girls can be so life-loving, easy-going, even so that Quebec wants electronic-engineers from Colombia since they adapt culturally so easily!

Spanish people also good in Madrid.

Colombia; many places are not used to tourist, they have not learnt how to charge more, "the gringo-premium", easy to get friends. But in established places they ONLY think gringo=$.

I know nomads that are nerds and live in Colombia on tourist / student visa and get paid from their Western company, as working from home, just that living costs, prepago costs are like 22% of that in UK and then it's money well spend, which €200-300 is a really crazy price which US / Europe guys pay. I earn €300 net a day x 22 a month. €300 for 1 hour vs 8 hours at the office. It's a bad deal.
