What happened? I can't tell other than the damaged taxi and dead person. Was this a robbery or an accident?

A lot of questions from just looking at those photos. With only the rear window broken in the taxi, without other damage, would indicate a shooting. But why would the dead person be outside the taxi in another part of the highway? Also, the motorcycle helmet on the taxi raises the question, was the dead person riding a motorcycle? If it was a car / motorcycle collision, there should be other damage to the taxi. I am surprised there aren't more motorcycle accidents, considering the way the cyclists drive.

If it's a vehicle accident I'm not worried about it affecting my safety in El Poblado.

And if it was a shooting I wouldn't worry about it affecting my safety in Poblado. Not that I'm in Poblado or in taxis often these days.

Of course you could always stay in Poblado and take the bus to Él Centro. Catch it on Avenida Poblado at Calle 10 and catch it on Oriental to go back to Poblado.

I visited both in 2016 (yes it was a good year for me). If you live in the Western Hemisphere, Colombia is a hell of a lot easier to get to, though not proportionally cheaper unless you live in South Florida. DFW to MDE was like 7 hours total versus 25 hours to the Land of Smiles. If you are in Europe, probably the transit times might not be so different. I don't know where you are coming from and won't make assumptions.

As far as pure fun, Thailand takes the prize. Probably much more to see and do overall, crime is not a big concern, and in some places the action is really in your face. A big factor should be whether you prefer pretty Latinas versus pretty Asians. I've got "yellow fever" at the moment and if you go to Thailand you might contract the same affliction.

Colombia has its merits though and I would like to return soon. The action is very much behind closed doors there, and you don't really get to see what your choices are till you get there. If you have little time and are in North America, I think Colombia is a great option, and I plan to return myself. But if I have time away from the job, I will be heading to Asia, as I am in a few days.

You can usually find some veterans behind Veracruz but upscale is not a way anyone would describe the scene. Something he could try is asking youngsters if they can recommend a mother or aunt. I've seen guys have success with that.
