He knelt down and fumbled on the ground and the other guys closed in tight. When I felt the guy trying to grab my leg, I took a big step back, got free of him and yelled at him. The guys behind weren't expecting that and ended up in front of me, facing the wrong direction with everyone in the area looking at them. They moved a little further and tried again, but I was 3 steps behind at that point.

I gave them plenty of room and got where I couldn't be closed in. After conferring for a few seconds they moved back the way they came.

During the day pickpockets are the biggest problem there. Try not to let people get too close and keep aware of your surroundings. Be safe.
