This is 100% correct but the discussion is absurd to me. It's very simple, don't send money. Ever. The requests are a long standing continuous scam aimed a extracting cash from anyone naive enough to give it up. I think those of us with the means have an obligation to support charitable causes. I put my money where my mouth is and I donate. Sending providers cash on demand is another deal altogether. Legitimate charities are subject to audits and regulations to publish information about how donations are used. Obviously, Western Union honeys have no such obligations.

To be clear, I am not criticizing anyone. I'm writing this in the hopes of preventing someone handing out money under fraudulent circumstances. So here is an example of what I'm getting at.
