The white airport taxis are 65 mil to Poblado and 50 mil back. I use the same guy every time. He is honest and told me the prices. Pay any more than that either way and someone is taking advantage of you (more the principle than the money, obviously).

80 MIL. OUCH? The refgular taxi is 75 mil and most private drivers are 70-75, you were overcharged by 5-10 mil, a whole $3. 50 at most.

99 out of 100 of them are fashion (fake) braces. That is the thing in Latin America and Asia now. If you look at the chicks that wear them, most of their teeth are already perfect.

I will go to Guatemala, many years after my first visit (and anyway I did not have the chance to play at that time). I have seen in the Guatemala thread that some people posting here is active also there.

I am interested, more than visiting casas and clubs (which I guess I will do anyway), to explore also the underground and street action. Maybe not necessarily to get a girl, but to get to know the local environment. It's always interesting for me to venture off track.

As I do in Medellin: every time I was in Medellin, I spent hours walking around Centro streets, not only at daytime but also well after midnight, and not only along the bars of Raudal and De Greiff but also at Prado under the metro, as well as I spent hours with a friend taxi driver roaming around where it is not possible to walk..

Statistically speaking it appears to be a bit more dangerous.

The over all homicide rate is 31.2 per 100,000 in Guatemala, Colombia is 26.5.

However the US tourist death rate over 5 years in Colombia was only point 72 per 100,000, with 19 killed in 5 years per State Dept figures.

Can't find the number of US tourists to Guatemala but they had 17 US citizens killed over 5 years, Colombia gets 3. 3 million tourists per year, 500,000 from the US, Guatemala gets only 1. 9 million total, number from US uncertain but if the percentages are roughly the same as Colombia then they get around 287,000 US visitors per year, which would give us a figure of 1. 18 killed per 100,000 per year, about 1.6 x's the Colombian rate but still not too bad as the overall US rate of 4.8 per 100,000.

That is a commom held belief by mongers who go to Colombia, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Thailand, and Philippines. They only go to a few spots that are known for hookers and are soon conditioned to believe every woman in the country is a hooker.

You're right though Sosua might be an exception. I think almost every female in that town is available for money.

Of course there not all hookers, not every woman in any of these countries, I myself have been to 3 out of the 5 you list and now in Medellin BUT it is true that in Colombia selling pussy is so ingrained in the culture, such a fine line between a normal professional type woman and making some money on the side, that I can understand why a monger can have this mind set albeit not the norm.

Yes it's ingrained in the culture, but it's done subtly / discreetly. Rich Colombianos don't bring obvious Estrato 1 hookers out in public. And they don't yell to everyone within 20 feet about all the **** pussy they're smashing.

I see it a little differently. I do notice the mentality you described but I don't think it's very common among guys who spend time in places beyond the Mansion, casas, strip clubs, and freelancer bars. Every so often, and it is very noticeable, I see a guy who is in a supermarket, a university campus or other public place leering and gesturing at random women. It's not a good look. Unless a guy is developmentally disabled, it doesn't take long for anyone to pick up on the social cues in the reactions of people (not just the women) when they behave like they are in a monger venue in a public setting that is not a monger venue.

When I stay at Casa Blanca and I go out alone I try to act as "moral" as I can (no leering, catcalling or treating every young local woman as if she is a working girl) and that has served me well.

But when I've gone out with less than subtle (and LOUD) gringos who do these things I've always felt the lasers coming out of the eyes of the local folks ESPECIALLY the older females. Very uncomfortable and I'm surprised my fellow ADULT travelers don't have that basic common sense.

So what is my question here. How are the streets of Guatemala City at night, compared to Medellin? What is the level of danger? More dangerous? Less? And what about taxis? Are they safe as in Medellin, or there is still a problem of robbing? What about Zona 1? Other areas marked for "street walkers" on the Google map provided in the Guatemala Thread?

I am interested also, I will be in Guat City. Zona 9 from 11/5-11/8.

That may be an old price. 70-80 mil is about right. Personally, I tend to use the same private driver who charges 80 and I give him 100 each time just because he's punctual and reliable. The last time I used a taxi I think it was more than 80 because he had an extra charge per person and I shared the cab with a couple I met on the plane.
