Visit a bookstore (or go online) and pick up a basic Spanish language course with CDS (much cheaper than the better Pimsleur courses). Use the books along with the CDS. That's important, because you need to make the connection between Spanish spelling and pronunciation. Otherwise you'll be baffled when trying to translate "ah ee", which is spelled "hay. ".
Learn basic greetings. Learn how to ask if someone speaks English. Learn the numbers. Learn a few basic verbs, how to conjugate them and basic sentence structure. Just a few weeks, a few hours per day will pay off.
While you're picking up some Spanish, start reading up on Medellin. I combine reading with Google Maps. When a hotel, restaurant, club or casa is mentioned, I find it and check out Street View. I want to know what the area looks like. If it looks rough during the day, I'm not going at night, or I'm doing a taxi door to door.
Figure out a few go to places. Places you would like to visit while you're there. Maybe Energy, Fase 2, or some other places. I'd recommend picking a few places close to each other and not in the heart of El Centro.
Read up on that neighborhood and find a hotel that's fairly convenient. This will help minimize your taxi rides. While you're at it, check the hotel area for restaurants. Now you should be prepared.
As to your concerns about security, whether or not you speak Spanish won't have much of an effect. Where you go and how you carry yourself will. If you're taking pictures of everything with your diamond encrusted, gold plated iPhone, expect to be robbed. If you're walking around with a wallet full of pesos, expect to be robbed. If you're walking around drunk, expect to be robbed.
However, if you follow all the good advice on the forum, you should be fine. Just be aware of scam artists on the street.
Hotel staff is generally friendly and patient and there is usually someone on staff who speaks some English. If you can speak some Spanish it will help immensely. "Disclpeme seor. Hay un gato muerto en mi cama. " Which means, you probably should have picked a better hotel.
Some restaurants have a menu in English. Just ask "tiene una carta en Ingles?" Or you can just use translate to figure out the regular menu.
Cab drivers will try to overcharge you. Read the forum, find out the typical fares. Before you get in, ask how much. "Cuanto cuesta?" If you have the name and address written down, it will help. If you think they are asking too much, tell them a lower price. If they are giving a price in dolares, they're ripping you off. Counter in pesos.
Finally, before you go, start thinking in pesos. 300,000 pesos is about $100 at the current exchange rate. 10,000 is $3. 33 (that's the posted rate, your actual rate will vary). You don't need to be exact, just have a solid idea. If a cab driver says "diez dolares", come back with "quince mil pesos. ".
If you know the typical rates, you don't have to worry too much. If someone is asking too much, respond with what you're willing to pay, or ask "por toda la noche?
I wouldn't suggest trying an all nighter with an unknown. You may have just bought a dead fish. On the other hand, if she rocks your world, ask how much to stay the night. The price should be 2. 5 to 3 times the 1 hour price. You can afford to bargain a little. If it's already late, she's not making any more money if she leaves.
It can be challenging without knowing Spanish, but if you keep a positive attitude, be patient and do your homework, you should be fine.

Be sure to read the comments below the article, many are tired of gringos in Colombia for sex.
In other news, back in November Cuba Dave got 5 years prison sentence in Costa Rica.

I did survived my solo visit without any Spanish skills. Google translator and WTs Casa Map are the only 2 tools you need for this expedition.
Stay is a safe neighborhood and visit casas rather than opting for street workers. If you can spare some time in tinder and facebook you can request for over night prices.
Over night prices very from girl to girl (prepago vs regular casa girl etc).

A lot of useful info here.
I would love to visit Medellin but I'm a bit apprehensive about making solo trip to Colombia as non-Spanish speaker. I wonder what are the chances of succeeding with both women, cap drivers and hotel staff with no Spanish? And how is the safety for a non Spanish speaker?
I have no problem using Google translate if they have the patience and learning a bit Spanish on the way. But I would imagine everyone would try to rip me off and overcharge me from the hookers to cap drivers or am I worrying too much? I have made great solo trips to Dubai and Africa earlier so its not totally new to me but English is spoken by the majority in those areas. Also I see the going prices are 120 k for Street workers to 150-200 k per hour for top girls in the strip clubs etc. Rights. How about top girls overnight?
Are there reputable any guides from here that can help with setting up everything from the airport to girls?

You can Google "Medellin escorts", find an escort (prepago) agency that either speaks English or has an email or a Whatsapp contact option. This is the most expensive way.
Contact a casa / massage places that offers home service. Energy Spa is one place. It will be a little cheaper, 170 k cop for an hour.
Search mileroticos, Backpage and Locanto for escorts who use Whatsapp. Use Google translate to translate your request into Spanish and hope for the best. Expect to get someone who is not nearly as appealing as the photos in the ad.
If you finally get someone to your hotel, keep Google translate handy. You'll probably need it.

Basically coming down to spend some time with friend for super bowl. But the goal is to monger and play poker. Are these hotels hobby friendly. I speak some Spanish but not a ton. My buddy speaks Spanish and lives with a Colombian lady but will not be with me 24/7. Not looking to come on the cheap. Looking for advice and appreciate any help.

I agree, you will not find any prices near COP 12'000 in Mayorista anymore. Neither will you find the quality of girls shown in the youtube video.
Who here has actually visited Mayorista recently and can post some updated information?

As a comparison, 20k is the lowest rate with poor girls along the streets of El Centro at night.

I am sure if this has been discussed before, but I want to bring it up again here according to my recent trips experiences.
In the second half of 2016, I made 3 trips to Colombia. First 2 were to Medellin and the last one in Dec. To Bogota. In my own comparison between the 2 biggest cities in Colombia, Medellin comes out on top on most of them. But I have to say that for mongering, Bogota is my city choice. I know most of us are flocking to Medellin for its weather, more economical costs, ease of navigating the City. , and many members here are long-time residents of Medellin. I do agree that MED is a better, easier and cheaper place to live. I would choose MDE to live over BOG as well. But I found Bogota is a much bigger and better playground for mongers.
We had a recent discussion here on authority trying to clean up sex tourism in Poblado, and our concern of being labeled as sex tourist. I saw in many store, caf or restaurants while there, the "refuse sex tourism" sign, and I did get asked suspiciously about why I came to Medellin a couple times in MED by local forks, although I did have legitimate reason for my trips. In BOG, nobody cares about why you are there. I went out with my 21 year-old spinner to eat, to dance, and we never got any attention. You just blend in easily in a City so diverse and will never get noticed.
There are so many venues in Bogota one can venture out while the options in MED kind of runs out in about a week. To my knowledge, there is probably no establishments like M1 and M2 in Poblado that provide the convenience of all-in-one package in BOG, so for non-Spanish speaking folks, there is that advantage using their services. But I found in BOG, there are a lot more people with English skill. You might still need Spanish if you want to conduct a longer conversation with the chicas, but the language factor is not as critical as in MED.
I also felt that Chicas in BOG, especially working chicas are very adopted to expats. Maybe there are so many of them around. They view you as a foreigner who might be their neighbors or somebody who works in the area, instead of a guy travel for distance to find the establishments. And since it is the Capital much larger in size and population, the choice and variety are so profound, not just Paisas. All my encounters with chicas in BOG were all very good GFE, and I even keep contact with a couple of them almost on a daily basis who are looking forward to seeing me again when I return.
I posted my trip report in BOG thread, but I post this comparison here in MED thread to see what other members think.
