My question is why does it seem that the bystanders in Colombia do nothing about crime. I saw a guy bleeding from a stab wound in Cali in 2005. Nobody would help him, I at least tried to help him, just as the police were arriving. The Colombians just either stared for a brief moment and then walked away, or looked and did nothing. Is this the norm, or is it more a situation of life in Colombia?

I think that this is the norm. Life is cheap.

What amazes me even more is that no Colombian seems to think that any law applies to him. There is a wide-spread lack of respect for law and order.

On the other hand, the anti-FARC demonstrations left me with some hope that Colombia is sick of this shit. And I have heard some very positive things said by university faculty members in Medellín concerning respect. Colombia may be moving in the right direction.

We have to realize that this is Colombia. No amount of anything we have experienced in any part of the US will prepare us for life here.

Granted Cubanut makes a point about random violence. However there is no comparison between the states and Colombia. At this time of the year in Wisconsin, you have to worry more about the Ice cracking under your feet, in your hut while Ice fishing than being robbed or kidnapped. Well maybe a month from now, isn't it something like. minus 40 with the wind chill factor now?

i was mugged as a teenager in my high school stair case in suburbia long island.

well here in the midwest in a peaceful chicago suburb we just had 5 women lose there lives when an asshole tried to rob a womens clothing store. the idiot decides to rob the store on an early sunday morning when there is no money in the register yet. flustered, he figures he can rob the 6 women in the store. so he duct tapes them and robs them. then apparently he felt he could not leave any witnesses who have seen his face so he proceeds to shoot each woman in the head. fortunately he misses one woman's head and hits her in the neck and hits no vitals.

Yesterday was a day of adventure and fun for the Col and I. We met at Mc Donalds in Pobaldo and we were off to my favorite spot for chica hunting '' ElCentro''. There are so many places to see and such little time in a day of hunting. We first made the Estabul mp as I have frequented the place and found it to have some nice talent on a regular basis. As I explained before I never count out a place due to no talent available on any given day. So I take it you haven't had any safety issues in Cali? ;)

I ask since you seem to go there quite a bit, and I've always heard it's one of the more dangerous cities in Colombia. Be safe buddy y nunca dar papaya!

Also, it's good to hear your info on pricing. Keep in mind Cali's economy is a bit depressed compared to Medellin and Bogota so prices there should be a bit lower.

As for the Loutron babe anecdote. Well, I'll STILL insist there are some top notch bodies that are simply not available at the 100K level. Maybe if they're "desperate" as you yourself admitted was the case here. But I don't want to sink into a flame war over pricing and I do think that the normal pretty girls which are a dime a dozen in Colombia are available for very reasonable prices assuming you can talk to them in Spanish.

A friend of mine had his cell phone snatched from his hand while talking in front of Unicentro Mall in Laureles (MDE) around noon on a week day. It was a guy on a moto.

Friends in Cartagena have told me of an increase in bus robberies. A couple of thugs get on a bus and look around a bit. Then they relieve each passenger of his/her stuff.

Oh yeah, and this can happen in any US city. Jajajaja.

Today was a strak reminder we live in Colombia not small town USA, Yesterday my Brother in law had a meeting with the town people of Belen and Agua Frias. It was a business meeting as we are involved with some enviormental issues in the area. My sister and law called to see how things were going for him so he pulled to the side of the road to speak with her since he was on the road at the time. As he spoke 2 young men on a motorcycle pulled to the side of his vehicle on North hwy / a 96 model Toyota Land Cruiser/ silver in color, and put a gun to the side of his head and demanded the vehicle. He is a pretty tough fellow so he talked shit and they put him to the ground and drove away with the SUV. He survived the attack but now faces a period of time without the truck. The insurance will pay for the vehicle and why he didn't just give it up I will never know. He could be dead today if not for the grace of God, or Luck, whichever you prefer. I have been Lucky with my time here, no attacks thus far. Then I get another phone call from my friend a software designer who was having lunch in a posh resturant in Poblado, while she enjoyed her glass of wine from out of nowhere a young Colombian male runs past the resturant and purse snatches her purse as she exits the place. She is also Lucky as she was unharmed, she is minus her valuables but she is alive to tell the story. I know you guys think this is no different than any American city, yes it could happen any where. Just be careful out there, this is still a Dangerous place. Where desperate people do desperate things.
