I can explain without bashing. There are two main reasons the lines move slowly than what gringos are accustomed to. One reason is technology (the lack thereof) and the other reason is culture. You hinted at the technology factor when you mentioned puntos. Exito does the same sort of market research based on collecting buying history from customers as other big retailers. The difference is Exito doesn't have up to date technology that enables customers to quickly swipe a loyalty card to identify themselves. Instead, cashiers have to manually key in the loyalty program number of every single customer both before (puntos) and after (movil Exito) they ring up the purchases. Some customers don't remember their punto or movil Exito numbers, so they have to give the cashier a phone number or cedula number to look it up. When customers redeem coupons or store credit receipts, the cashier has to stop the line and scan them one by one and sometimes call for a manager to complete the transaction. All this takes forever.

The culture factor is the one that is least likely to change anytime soon. Very quickly, the things that cause the line to move slowly that you don't see in developed countries are customers who leave their carts smack in the middle of the small space where people on line behind them need to pass to get their purchases on the checkout belt, people who use the checkout clerk as a price scanner to decide whether they can or want to buiy some or all of the items in their cart, people who decide they don't want some of the items or want different items who then leave the line to look for what they want while everyone else has to wait until they return so the cashier can complete the transaction, on top of all of that most customers will engage the cashier in small talk about the weather, current events, their physical ailments or whatever else that has nothing to do with buying groceries. This is especially true of older customers who sadly don't have much other human interaction. That last one about older people is something you also see with building doormen. The older building residents spend a lot of time socializing with the doormen because they are always available and can't ignore them.

I'll never understand why the line in Exito always take forever to check out people. Everytime I go, even with people 2 or 3 items in their hand will sometimes takes 30 minutes to check them out. I noticed it takes longer when those people used their "puntos". The cashier looks it up on the computer which take about 10 minutes and additional 1-2 minutes to print the receipt. You will never see that in US LOL.

Now before you bash me, since this forum has so much negativity LOL, I'm not complaining at all. Even waiting on the line for that long, I get to see beautiful paisas, who's most of them on their gym clothes after working out or pre-work out buying groceries. Just had this paisa girl right in front of me who's got a really nice toned body, great shaped ass, a well made tits, nips poking out on her bra, curvy waist and big hips. I'd say she's on her early 30's. About 5'3 height. I'd give her a 7 on the face and 8. 5 on the body. Definitely just finish her morning workout bought a 300 k worth of groceries (mostly healthy stuff). I had the opportunity and the 2 old senior citizens behind me, blessed with the awesome view for 30 minutes.

I was about to pull her a "Hola, como estas? "Realmente creo que eres hermosa", "Tienes novio? Then I realized, I do not want to draw any attention from the locals, me looking like an Asian guy (Extranjero) on his mid 30's. I'd rather keep everything on the low especially the situation now in Medellin LOL. Even then, I still have 2 dates lined up for tonight so I don't feel bad at all for that missed opportunity.

Exito, never misses. There's always a beautiful women everytime I go there. I fucking love this country.

On the other hand, when the cashier ask me for "puntos", I just simply say "NO" so I don't hold back the line.

There is also some bills they can pay at the cashier which always takes a long time. They should have a separate or customer service line for that bullshit.

15 mil for a cab is not price gauging. It is on the low end. Arguing or complaining over cab fare of 7. 5 mil (which is not easily found) is ridiculous and using an example of going to McDonalds is idiotic.

I have been going to Medellin for at least 7 years now and before then Cali. I have a long list of girls that I see and thereafter go out for lunch or dinner. Yes a dinner!

Dinner at decent place will run you around 40 K. Good heavens, I spend the equivalent of $10 for food for a girl that has very little choices in life on how to make ends meet.

And Oh My God! I have also taken some on trips with me as well. And guess what? I paid for them for their time including food and drinks. How silly of me?

The guys here worried about small change like this are true losers. They couldn't get a date where they are from (I wonder why?) And feel a sense of power arguing over small change.
Same guys that worry about $1. 80. Probably couldn't get a job at McDonalds.

Most of the girls live in Bello and it is usually 20 to 25 mil on Uber for the ride back home. 15 mil is very reasonable because most of the girls live far from the tourist areas.

I don't think he is penny pinching. He felt dishonesty. How does you average apply to his situation?

He is from South Korea if he is real. I have not used USD for quite a while and I don't think in USD. If I were going to think in USD, this is how it would go. That amount of money can buy a dinner here, 2 pineapples, at least 25 bananas or mongos, or one lb of ribs. I will convert that to what it would cost in US in USD which is much more. I wasn't even thinking about the amount of the money.

Normally, I paid a flat fee 50 mil for transportation which I have written about. My term is 50 mil even if they take metro, and I offered to pick them up from metro station on top of the 50 mil. I see some of them will take moto and keep more money which is what I want to see. There is one girl that I always call her Uber because she was introduced to me by a friend. She only knows about 3 gringos the last time I asked her. I follow my friend's treatment of her so I don't change her because she was unspoiled in attitude, and grossly undervalued by her appearance despite that she was already paid more than the usual FB girls. Sometimes no Uber was available and she would get the transportation on her own. I always paid her the equivalent of Uber cost. One time I caught her came by moto by accident. The last time I saw her she did not even ask for me to call her a Uber to leave. I guessed it was because she had another date after me at 10PM. That is the advantage of calling Uber for girl. You save a trip if she has another date after you. LOL

Fish pictures are parque exploar folks, don't think of the giant aquariums in the US or Europe. These aquariums are fucking tiny, never go to them. It's no bigger than one "section" of an aquarium in the capital of a western country I apologize for only having 2 pictures of Chika. I never sneak photos. Many chikas don't allow photos.

Girls will hang out at them seeking to meet foreigners, but that's not the sole existence of the club and there aren't any rooms in the back for sex or anything like that. Also, all clubs / bars in the world will serve non-alcoholic drinks (coke, red bull, water, orange juice, etc.).

We're sorry if we offended you. I thought it was because the club staff always touted the park as having lots of hot girls. I'll go there today and give you a review.

Yeah, people shouldn't let themselves get price-gouged because of being a foreigner, but there is always a line to draw. ...
It also seems to me that a lot of folks are obsessed with "winning" any exchange. They have to pay bare-bottom prices so they can feel like they got back at the "vapid women" who shun them in real life. They have to be the ones who are on the forum talking about how they get 10/10, amateur, chicas who totally love them for cheap / free. Everybody needs to find balance between being "that" guy and being some poor sap who is getting roped along by chicas and dropping tons of money for sub-par service.

Reality is that there are different price structures that exist out there for locals and foreigners in many countries for things like transit fares. Even mongering in brothels in Singapore openly state that locals pay cheaper rates than foreigners. That's just the way it is.

As for price negotiating with the ladies, I do agree that even if we are to be successful in low balling them, we could very well end up with crappy service. So we do have to find a fine line. On the other end, I for one don't believe in paying top rates if the ladies are asking for them when the numbers start to move towards what I can get in my home region where there is a thriving pay for play scene that exists already. Why should I pay at the same rates or even higher than what I can get at home for good talent?

So in my case, maximums of what I'm willing to pay when I arrive in Colombia might very well be a bit different compared to other tourists just because of where I'm from. This will be especially the case between those of us coming from Canada (especially Toronto and Montreal) compared to our friends from the USA. That's why we end up seeing many of our American friends especially from the northeastern states come up to Toronto and Montreal to monger.

These forums are helpful in trying to find what the middle grounds might be down in Colombia.

Today marks my sixth day in Medellin. I've been to llears Park four times already. The staff at the club now know my face by heart and pretend to know me LOL But I still haven't gone to any clubs. I don't drink alcohol. The clubs in Yeras Park are not clubs, they are de facto *****houses.

If you have been to Bogota, you have probably taken a tour with Woodman, who knows all the "Adult" things you can do in that town. Any one like that in Medellin?

City Hall is engaged in a big public relations campaign. There is nothing unusual about this in Medellin politics. Kiddie fiddlers are the recent hot topic and that is not so common although I can remember it flaring up in the headlines every three or four years or so. I was out of town for the weekend so I had a chance to see what's happening in immigration. I caught a break and arrived with only one other flight in the immigration hall. I noticed no difference in the immigration officer's procedures. There has always been anti pedo posters in the immigration hall. The only difference I noticed is there is now a wall sized poster of the same announcement that has been on bus stops and billboards around town the past couple of weeks. It's a picture of a guy walking with a woman amongst the statues in Botero Plaza with text that basically says "it's illegal, don't even think about it. " The immigration hall poster is the size of the entire wall. It is so big that you can't see it from the foreigner's line. You can see it from the Colombians' line. I think smaller posters on stands where the immigration line changes direction would get the message to visitors more effectively. I don't think that is the primary goal of the campaign. Just like the day the mayor showed up with a group of reporters and assistants to hand pamphlets to people on line, it's all about promoting an image of action.

I fly in and out of Colombia every month, I have not had any questions other than the norm.
