I booked my first trip to Colombia today. I'll be there September 3-17. I'm starting a spreadsheet to list things I might need while there. I'd appreciate feedback on things that you didn't think of, but would have been useful on your trips. For example, we've seen a lot of discussion here lately about "bombillos". Do you bring snacks from home so that the girls can experience something from your home country? If so, what do you find is really popular with them? I've seen people mention bringing small gifts from like a Five Bellow, what did you buy there? Once complete, I'd be happy to share the spreadsheet with any board member who'd like it.

I am also going to be in Medellin for my first trip in the first week of September. I guess September must be newbie month. It's my first time in Colombia but I have been traveling to Guadalajara for the past year so I feel comfortable in a country that speaks Spanish even though I only speak some Spanish. That has always been my biggest concern about Colombia. But I have made some effort to learn more Spanish and now it is not the case that I don't speak any Spanish. And for Colombia, there is also local slang that you can learn.

I would minimize toiletries if space is an issue in your suitcase because you can buy whatever you need from the local drugstore or supermarket. Bringing mouthwash is a bad idea because it is liquid and may leak and mouthwash should be easy to buy in Medellin. The local drugstore and supermarket should have most of the items that you would find in your local stores. But bringing your condoms and your favorite lube is a good idea. Almost all decent hotels will provide soap, shampoo, small toiletries. This is based not on my experience in Medellin but my experiences traveling to other countries.

I do bring some gifts from home. Some guys think it is not necessary and it isn't but girls do appreciate the small gifts along with the money. It feel that makes them remember me a little bit more than the guy who just pays them money but I could be wrong.

Not sure how many guys are aware of that dual functionality, the bombillos are also Blue Tooth speakers.

Don't know where are you from but it's a good idea to check power sockets compatibility. Copies of documents. Zipped wallet, preferably attached to the belt / jeans. Probably best to leave the jewellery at home. Burner phone. Downloaded files for offline google translate and maps. Libido. Comfy sneakers if you're into walking a lot. Light rain jacket or buy an umbrella locally. Long trousers / jeans unless you don't mind being identified as gringo from afar.

I wouldn't worry too much about the particular snacks, it's the gesture and the sharing that counts really and just treating the girls like human beings. Snacks are not obligatory either and I'm sure plenty of members monger successfully here without them. Just a nice touch and bit of bonding that can return dividends on the next visit.

Bombillos can be purchased locally, if needed (also not obligatory, hard to imagine you'll need more than one on a short trip, if that).

Don't know about gifts, one needs to be careful not to go over the top and appear supplicating. So with right delivery it can be fine but I just wouldn't worry to much about it on your first trip. Not necessary if you ask me.

What you will need or not depends largely on your mongering style / itinerary really.

I don't know how's your Spanish, I was glad I knew the numbers and couple basic phrases before landing.

You could try connecting it to Wi-Fi if it has that capability. Or if it has Bluetooth you could try to send the photos to another phone (or to a laptop that has Bluetooth). You can also try connecting via usb cable to the PC / laptop and see if you can copy the data from there. Not sure if the phone is sim-locked for Colombian service provider, if it is then you might need to find a tech-store that removes the simlocks and then you can put any service provider SIM card. Another option, if the Colombian service provider offers it, is to enable international / USA data roaming but this can get *very* expensive especially uploading / downloading a lot of data so better check the pricing if going that route.

Tried my Spectrum WiFi, no go. I tried the Bluetooth and made a connection to my laptop but all the Outbound transfers were "unsuccessful". I plugged a USB cable from my computer into the phone but all it does is indicate that it is charging. I believe the phone is SIM-locked as you wrote, which I why it stopped working when I left Colombia, I believe.

I agree, roaming charges would probably be exorbitant. I have a portable hard CD drive, maybe record it onto that and then transfer? I may need to get the phone unlocked. Or just live with the idea that I have fotos stuck on a fone. Wait until I return to Colombia and load them to the Cloud, which I should have done before I left. Hindsight being 20/20 and all that. stuck on my Colombian WOM phone and it ain't working now that I am back in the states. I think to upload those fotos I am going to have to put in a new chip in my Colombian phone, it's a Nokia. Any suggestions? Wal-Mart? Kroeger? I won't be using it as my main phone but I'd like to upload the fotos on it to my Google Cloud. Any help appreciated, I am average tech-savy, probably less-so when it comes to phones.

I remember one of our posters, Sjobs, who was stuck outside Colombia during the Pandemic came up with all kinds of stories of how he would smuggle himself into Colombia when it was closed by bribing Immigration officials if necessary, and even sneaking in from Venezuela.

All total fiction of course, but the posts where quite entertaining being so unbelievable.

And with you being a high wire act, with no balancing beam, or a safety net below, it surprising that you didn't get jacked up on this trip.

I was so tired from no sleep for 38 hours that I slept through all 3 of my flights only to be awakened each time by the landing. Really, it was the easiest trip ever although sometimes I am pretty sore the next day from sleeping so much in airline seats. Nine hours after landing, I feel pretty good, I think the gym work I was doing in MDE really helped.

My last night with Catgirl and Scarlet was phenomenal. They are both long-term loves, and they both returned the evening of my departure, my taxi picked my up at 9:00 PM last night and I got in at 11 AM Sunday.

For pure love and emotion from which it was very hard to tear away, the few hours I spent in bed with Freckle and the Little One was off the charts, in the puta motel across the street from The Nutti. I just posted about it. My relationship with Freckle makes no sense other than we love each other's company. I started with her this trip when I went directly from the airport and spent five nights with her in a different dive motel in the Belly of the Beast in El Centro. Then she found a girlfriend, the Little One, who accepts me at Freckles' behest. I can't describe it fully and you know I am not usually at a loss for words. They are both 18 years old.

What am I going to do here? I have a hundred things to do and nothing I have to do, being retired. I am going to get overnight shipping of a new phone from my old provider to replace the one that was stolen. My cable service is out but I have Internet as you can see.

My yard guy seems to have abandoned me and it's a jungle out there. Right before I left I had a tree removed and a bunch of roots ground out but now there are like 50 little trees sprouting up, see foto.

I want to get hundreds of fotos off my Colombian burner phone that is not working now that I am in the states, although that realization did not occur to me until I was sitting in the MDE airport. I just posted about that.

I need to help supervise my casa build in San Cristobal but Catgirl is very good at that. Eleven foundation columns are going in now. I need a new visa in order to return this calendar year to MDE. I fucked up as usual and once I got to Medellin, sex, drugs, and guraracha music took over and I procrastinated on those plans. I have a couple of Colombian lawyer leads for where's you pays your money, and you gets your visa, end of story. Expensive, but for me probably the best value.

Keep up with the gym that I started in Medellin. I lead a very healthy lifestyle here. No drugs, no mongering. My best friend is my ex-wife but she lives several states north. We like to travel together. I pretty much don't date. Medellin has ruined my tolerance for the bullshit in pussy prison here. The last chica who wanted to go out with me here, I told her to show at my front door in an overcoat with no underwear, and we had to fuck first before we went out. She considered it, but in the end she was a no-show, jajaja.

Continue remodeling my house, the finest example of Mid-Century Modern in my city. I often get asked if it is a Frank Lloyd Wright designed home, I wish. I lead a good life.

I know my lifestyle seems like a "high wire act" to some, but it's all relative. I wrote about my friend Crazy George in Medellin. I look like a monk compared to him. I admit I am more than 2 standard deviations away from the mean, for sure.

I have been this way all my life so it will be a tough sell to get me to think something needs to change, not saying you did. Most people don't get me, but that's not important. I don't need or want to be understood, which I consider to be one of the greater human fallacies. I am fully prepared for the consequences of my actions other than I prefer not to be tortured to death or suffer significant permanent disability. Other than that, If I Die Tomorrow, I Die A Happy Man, my epitaph. Live one day at a time.

I have never felt deeper in love with Catgirl. In fact, there is a lot of love with all the chicas on my List. Once you accept the premise that money equals love in the Medellin culture, so much of the behaviors become crystal clear. I am not being trite. The concept is profound and deep and you have to digest it for a long time before it sinks in. At least it took me awhile to get it and I am generally a Quick Study. BTW, I am not saying you have to spend a lot of money to be loved.

Thanks for the question. I can be a real asshole sometimes but I don't let it bother me. Before I retired in 2019, I had a high profile position in a Fortune 20 company and I constantly had to be aware of my professional reputation, and so forth. One of the revelations I made after retirement was I stopped trying to be a better man. Great decision. Made me a better man, jajajajaja.

I can't speak for SJobs but I am a Truth Seeker and everything I post is 90% true. I don't claim 100% because I am on the inside looking out, and it is impossible to eliminate personal bias.
