I got the expected 4,369 (and change) today. I'm looking forward to Tuesday and pulling again at 4,420 (or close to it). Once a person learns how the XE rate and the Visa Exchange rate work you can really maximize your withdrawals.

1) Rising interest rates in the US is making dollars more attractive to hold and nearly all other currencies go down relative (look at the GBP and Euro). Emerging markets hit worse than established ones.

2) Declining price of oil recently (although still high historically) which is Colombia's largest export and driver of GDP.

3) Petro winning which is expected to reduce foreign investment and grow national debt. He did name a moderate central banker as his Finance Minister so that has tempered some expectations.

4) Belief that the populace will want to push through more progressive measures and anecdotal evidence of rich Colombians accelerating their movement of money outside of the country (I. E. The rich and businesses don't even think it's safe to keep money in-country).

5) Ukraine / Russia. At any time there is a conflict that could expand worldwide people will seek out more stable currencies. On the flip side, the conflict initially causes a dramatic increase in the price of oil which should have helped the COP.

6) Budget deficit. Colombia had to run a bit hot with a 7% or 8% deficit during Covid.

The amazing thing to me is the exchange rate given the historically high price of oil. Without Petro I bet it would be around 3500 to 3700 right now.

Pure speculation on my part, but I expect it back in the 3900 range within 2 or 3 weeks.

Apparently a new high was hit yesterday topping out over 4400 COP to the USD and I withdrew 2,700,000 COP from a Scotia ATM, and maybe should of withdrawn more. When the new President was elected the exchange rate was like 3960. It would appear the exchange rate has changed over 11% in the three weeks since the election.

Does anyone know what is driving the devaluation of the Peso so much?

Keep having a blast and take care of yourself (was written in Spanish) is what I meant and wrote. Even after rewriting in the preview it got changed back. It happens to lots of guys and I'm sure can be fixed somehow. A new challenge for the administration if they really want to.

The text editor that's built into the board software has a bunch of built-in shortcuts along with prohibited words and characters. If you try to use Spanish along with the correct accent mark, the text editor makes changes. That's why typing Medellin correctly gives you Medellíand. Or the proper way to write cuidate gives see youídate.

I believe some of the things can be changed by the admins, but it's probably not worth the effort.

How little people know or unpredictable changes like this occur. Politically speaking, shouldn't the election of a leftist president cause devaluation of the USD, when the exact opposite has happened? Or is this simply a reaction and response before the new guy actually takes office?

Who the fuck knows but predictions about what the market does are generally pure speculation and I believe no one truly understands the overall big picture, although a lot of folks pretend to do so. No matter what your viewpoint in these situations, you can usually find a roughly equal number of qualified folks with the opposite opinion.

Pure speculation but I suspect it's largely in part a reaction to due to rising inflation in countries where Colombia imports from. The US and China are Colombia's largest trade partners, covering almost half Colombia's imports at around 10 billion each. As the costs of transmission equipment, cars, petroleum products, medicine, and corn go up, the dollar (and yuan) get a bit stronger. In some ways, it doesn't affect the majority of Colombians as they're still buying and selling everything in their day to day lives in pesos. They will start seeing the cost of those imports rise and feel some of the effects of inflation. As a country, Colombia is in a pretty good spot so I don't expect too much in terms of long terms effects.

Please take that all with a huge grain of salt. I'm still of the opinion that trying to time the market is largely gambling. Smarter people than myself have lost more than I'll ever see in the Forex market.

Do you believe that there are some experiences that are beyond words or that it is simply the failure of the writer? That might fall into the "two kinds of people" category, but I will do my best.

I think it was a six-girl day but the number is not important. Catgirl spent the night and decided to sleep in all day when her period came on, so that left me free to monger at Ground Zero, which I did. I had my usual room in the love motel and my anchor girl called out the window for one chica and messaged another to join us for a total of two hours.
