I write this update with some post nut clarity from the balcony of my apartment, Poblado and my new place with a beautiful view of Medellin have been good to me.

Breakfast in Medellin sucks. So far I have eaten in Nutibara, Dorado La 70 and Vivre. All breakfasts are equally bad and the latter 2 hotels are rated 4. 5 of 5 at google reviews. Those people that did the reviews must never have tried a breakfast in an European hotel. They will also complain if you go a second round to get more food. In Europe it is always buffet style. How much do I need to spend on a hotel in Medellin to get same quality breakfast as in Europe with buffet style? In Brazil the hotel breakfasts are much better then here and it is buffet style and that is hotel for half price of what I pay here.

By the way noone mentioned hotel Vivre in the thread so I did not know if it was girl friendly but they confirmed and they also accept Venezuelan ID cards.

You are 35 or more pounds overweight and your cholesterol is pushing 260. You take medicine for high blood pressure and if you are not already glucose intolerant you will soon be diabetic. Jajajajaja, I am being intentionally rough on you because the typical "American" breakfast is full of sugar, fat, and let's not forget the cancer causing nitrites. The average American would do a lot better to eat the typical Colombian breakfast. I hope your cultural sensitivity goes beyond food. But yeah, the breakfast at the Dorado sucks. Anybody have any tips for eating healthy in Medellin? Restaurants that have some decent choices you can order on Rappi? No I don't cook or meal prep either haha.

I love Lentijas Express. They're on Rappi. Mundo Verde too. I hit the salad bar at Crapes & Waffles regularly. Not sure if that's available online.

Hacienda doesn't serve breakfast. They offer good quality mid market renditions of basic Colombian dishes of rice, beans, pork, and overcooked seafood. I rate them 1/2 point above Hato Viejo. They cater to tourists and out of towner Colombians. Few residents of Centro can afford it except as a special occasion splurge. Besides the food, the biggest advantage over Versalles is the floors are swept and mopped.

Service is dreadful too. The cashier wouldn't even split a bill for us when I went. Wouln't tell us the price of any individual item on the bill, just a total. WTF?

Across the road is the Hacienda. Much better service, interior and food.

Another report after you incl many others from well travelled mongers say Medellin is one of the top destinations right now, and I agree. Sorry to hear your trip ain't going well so far. But truth is Medellin can compete hard head to head with Brazil, you just have to know how to navigate the scene there as I can tell you're still new to this hobby or in Medellin.

First, I'm writing cause I'm a bit like you, at times I want nothing but BBBJ and BBFS, and for Medellin the best way of getting that is to go after non pros or semi pros as we call them. Sign up for SA, DC, or Tinter Gold, pay the $99 bucks or sub fee so don't be an el cheapo. Even if you're there for a week it's still worth it imo. Or if you habla a bit of espaol, just visit some of the malls there and test your pick up skills, and you'll see an entirely different set of girls. I've picked up at least 5 waitresses, others from grocery stores, as they walk by when I sit in restaurants in La 70, at the mall, clubs, normal girls are everywhere and best part is I usually pay those $0. 00, and full BBFS. From SA, DC, Tinder, 30-40% will still be hardcore pros or low key pros, but many will be new girls testing themselves, starting out or playing hookie part time for extra money while in school. Those are the ones you can manipulate easily to do what you want incl rawdogging like a horny wife on her honeymoon. FB was just as good back then, but not anymore really, they're mainly pros now on FB. With hundreds of guys asking for FB IDs and all targeting the same hunnies it was only a matter of time, especially if your friend list is small. The solution is to go on actual dates, drinks, dinner, talk a bit.

Your response is valid, and helpful. I suspected SA and non pros are a better fit for me. I've also discovered the friendliness of normal girls as I visit stores and restaurants, and I'm fully bilingual so conversation is not a problem. As far as making love, I was being sarcastic, the term is loosely used here.

I'm actually used to meeting girls in Montréal and Brazil, working girls, that give proper service even after just meeting you. The key might be those are real professionals and not just a random Facebook girl trying to make a wage as a side job. Saw some SWs I liked, I think I'll ask for whatsapp and arrange a meet that way. Not good enough Spanish to negotiate then and there. The idea of approaching them in front of all the people watching (police included) feels uncomfortable as hell though.

Versalles is an historic institution. I love the atmosphere and old photos but I am very uncomfortable with the lack of cleanliness. I've seen cockroaches walking across the merchandise in the front counter.

Not far away, also on Junin (Carrera 49 and. 52-84) you can get a very good breakfast at Reposteria Astor. Astor was started by a Swiss immigrant family. Went looking for Zandalay, couldn't find it but I was in the wrong place, my bad. Loaded up WorldTravel69 map to my google maps phone app now so it should go better. I was somewhat more stressed walking the relatively empty streets in that area than being in the Centro crowd. More sticking out and possibility of ambush without witnesses I guess. Plus there is quite strong police presence in el Centro, even saw couple army guys with machine guns strolling around Botero Plaza yesterday hah.

Dropped by Nueva Avenida. Beer 7 k. Quite a different vibe compared to my earlier visit. Place was packed and there was a party in progress. Multiple topless chicas dancing and twerking on stage in fluorescent masks, some kind of raffle going on, then a dance train formed going around the stage. Customers and girls together, chicas put on balloon dicks and sucked each other off, free lap dances going around. Loco! Good line-up too.

Girl in there was trying to get to my wallet while I was taking a shower. So many people have dark eyes here it's sometimes difficult for me to figure out whether they are actually looking at me or not.

I had my backpack open (which I was aware of, took out water to drink and it was empty otherwise) on metro station, a man let me know about it.

Another English speaking beggar approached me in Botero Plaza, aspiring rapper deported form US to Venezuela he says. Could be, had the American accent. Offered to rap for 15 minutes for a 'support'. That got me to almost run away from there.

Not many tobacco smokers it seems. Easier to get whiff of weed while walking around than a tobacco.

I looked in through the door of Hilton Grill twice. Both times place was empty no girls in sight, although the music was playing and there was a doorman.

Colombia is far more "cash oriented" than you are used to. People were getting money out of the cajeros (ATMs) to pay rent and monthly expenses. It is July 1st afterall.
You were smart to decline the stripper's invitation to take her to your hotel for exactly the right reason. One of villainy's rules. When you're here on vacation, you don't see one girl 10 times you see 10 girls one time. Enjoy yourself. Besides street-walkers, casas and strip clubs you might want to learn to use FB and expand your range of possibilities. Also if you enjoy your visit and plan on doing it again, suck it up and start taking some Spanish classes. It isn't obligatory, but you're staying in El Centro, and a little (actually a lot) Spanish would help on many fronts.

Thanks, yes, FB route is in the plans once I settle in a bit, figure my way around town and casas to have somewhat reliable backup while I work on FB (and in case of flakes / bad service). Definitely would like to have a girl outside of casa though, in a decent room, not on the clock and without the music abusing my eardrums. I could use the translator conversion audio mode then too, which is quite handy and much more smooth.

Definitely need to learn Spanish too, would make the experience so much better. For now I just pick it up as I go out of necessity, using basic phrasebook which I prepped beforehand and expanding daily based on the sticking points and some imagined conversation scenarios, see some progress already compared to day 1.

I'm guessing that you walked up to Parque de Bolivar. It's a mixed bag of locals there, mostly harmless, but I'm sure if you flashed some cash or bling, there's a good chance you'd get robbed. There are a couple of casas right there too, a block or two east of the church. I prefer the Exito Junin. There are a couple ATMs in that area there too. It's a nice, safe, shopping area where you won't stand out, something you don't want to do after visiting an ATM.

Yes, I checked my google map timeline and it was indeed Parque de Bolivar. Thanks for the tip on ATMs. Stumbled upon Banco Pichincha ATM around there, it was indoors and miraculously didn't have any line (also doesn't charge a fee, 800 max withdrawal). Tried Davivienda earlier but it outright rejected my Revolut Master Card with error, didn't even propose to charge a fee.

As you head west down De Greiff, you'll hit Radual No. 3 where there are also a bunch of streetwalkers. It does get a little sketch past there down De Greiff, but it's not too bad during the middle of the day. If you go even further, you'll find the Plaza Minorista, which is a very large food market of sorts, which I personally found interesting.

Indeed I was heading for Plaza Minorista but gave up thinking I lost my way and didn't want to pull up the phone there. It was morning and didn't notice any SWs but I wasn't looking either. Went in the afternoon the other day though and there was lots of them. The area seems a bit sketchier than Botero-Veracruz, less police presence it seems.

FYI: I have never been quoted more than 70 mil there. I did pay 30 mil more once for BBBJ. For tip, they seem to be happy with coins that I gave them.

If you want to get the Civica card, you need to go to San Antonio station with your passport, on the second floor, enter the station, it's on the left. There is always a line.

If you just want the card that loads metro (including autobus) rides onto the card, you don't need a passport. One is green, one is gray, I can't remember which one is which. The one you get with your passport also allows you to use the bikes, maybe other perks. For example, you can use a Civica card to make purchases in Exito like a debit card. And I think you can get the basic card at places other than San Antonio, I want to say at any station? But I am not sure about that. I have a green card and a gray card in my possession now, both were given to me by chicas who live here. I can recharge both of them with cash at the machines in the metro stations, if they have the machines. Clear as mud?? Jajajajajaaa. Welcome to Colombia.

Thanks for all the input about the civica cards, I thought initially there is only green one available. I got the gray one for 6 mil, loaded it up and took some rides to the ends of both metro lines. The green one can be indeed purchased at San Antonio station. The booth is behind the gates so one needs to buy a ticket to get in.

The 1st and 15th of each month are payday for many here. The so-called informal economy means rent and many monthly bills are paid in cash. Also, Colombians pay bills via the ATMs, so they tend to conduct several transactions at a time compared to the quick withdrawals foreigners usually do. After I am in and out of an ATM in less than one minute, I'm often asked if the machine is working because the Colombians don't understand how anyone can complete their business so quickly. Long story short, you should avoid the 1st and 15th so you don't waste vacation time waiting on lines.

Oh I see, that explains it. I did wonder why it takes people so long there.
