The Disco action on Avenida 70 doesn't start until around 10 PM

And you will see very few if any gringo's inside. Usually one or two of the discos will dominate and the others sometimes are near empty. Th, FR, and Sa nights are hopping. Cheaper to buy a bottle than individual drinks if you are buying more than four. The dominant discos fluctuate over weeks as the crowd grow bored and moves for a change. They play the music loud even by and. American standards. Girls go out in groups and are definitely fair game but don't take a monger's attitude that it is a slam dunk. If you don't know Spanish, it can be a challenge. For my first time, I would take a date or a wingman or try to go with or join a group of locals but of course I have no idea how you roll. Ostee Ouuuuut.

She's a girl I repeat with, so yea, that tip would have absolutely changed the dynamic. She would then expect an extra 30 k everytime.

not to mention, if i get this mind blowing service from my regulars 4-6x in a. week, im suppoosed to give in and tip that extra 30k everythime according to your reasoning? it's absurd.

If you read my posts in the past, I have tipped when I don't plan on repeating with them for whatever reason. Because the 30 k to me is nothing but to them it's a day or two of food.

But I would say as a rule of thumb, your advice shouldn't be followed by mongers here if they receive "mind blowing service". Only in certain circumstances, or else it fucks up the whole dynamic.

yesterday a spinner in botero wanted 35k + 6 room, i paid room, i only had two 20k on me and gave it to her. she was going to give me change and i said keep it. i also paid before. ohno! service was very good.

And as far as kindness goes, the 15 min massages I give and DATY go a long way, especially when the typical local 50 yo guy treats them like sex dolls and not people.

    Best.

    Jw.
I spend lots of time in Brazil as well, yes.

    Mid 50's.

I don't analyze so much really, and like you, I treat people like people and with kindness, especially when deserved.

Keep doing your thing, I respect that as well. It appears to work well for you.

I take care of those that take care of me, especially when it's above and beyond, but not overboard or foolishly.

I talk to these girls, they know that I'm not a fool.

    No respect lost.

    Enjoy.

I totally agree. Classism is rampant. Over the many years, I have seen it often. Try taking a barrio girl to Poblado, even if she is dress nice (I. E. , not like a working girl). The upper class look down on the lower class and, in general, they look down on us because they make assumptions (which, in my case, are correct assumptions. That I am a monger).

Two examples to illustrate my point. A few years back I was with one of my Chicas in Provenza with some friends, and when I introduced my Chica in a gathering we were attending, she was asked by another Chica what barrio she lived in, and when she said Paris, a strata level 1 barrio, this Chica and her friends gave my Chica the cold shoulder. My friends even commented as to how cold some of the people at the gathering were to my Chica.

Another time when I was looking at a property in Poblado, the sales agent had brought an attorney along, and when I pointed across the valley to Bellen, and asked about that area as a neighborhood, the attorney made disparaging remarks about "those people."

Classism in my opinion is more prevalent here versus racism, as I have never noticed it, at least not yet.

I've been stopped a few times and I just play dumb.
You have to know with who and when you can get away with what. You also have to know when to play the dumb foreigner. Situational awareness is what it is. Some people must have hard and fast rules to go by and others know how to enjoy the flexibility.

I think you are both correct. There is a lot of racism and classism.

I live with a coloured family and they experience a lot of racism. Many other coloureds and blacks have told me the same.

One crazy little tale is this. The uncle of my GF is white and lives in Miami. He provides an apartment for his mother (my GFs grandma) in Envigado. He will not allow my GFs sisters to live with their grandma in his apartment bcos they are coloured (same as his sister).

That is funny - "you look like a white guy today." Graphic t-shirts with jeans and baseball cap is what most of the 30 and under crowd wear. Age 30 to 50 is the same uniform with polo shirts replacing the graphic t-shirts. Age 50 and up is your alternative attire with a short sleeve shirt without the button down collar. Except at midday or midsummer, you won't do much sweating here unless you are hiking in direct sunlight.

I wore that once when visiting a Korean AAMP in the Bay Area whom I'd known for a long time and she said quite directly "you look like a white guy today."

T-shirts and jeans made from cotton don't deal with sweat well but maybe they blend in and reduce my chances of getting mugged.

I checked the map street view to see if I maybe know the place by another name. I don't. I noticed a tell tale sign that it is a venue of interest. The house number on the building is 4 or 5 times bigger than the house number on any other building on the mostly residential street. That is a common technique used for several purposes. It makes the place easier to find, and it promotes good neighbor relations because it stops punters ringing the doorbells of nearby buildings looking for the venue.

Reefer to this post. Pun intended.

I've been stopped a few times and I just play dumb. I was stopped last week walking back from raudul corner next to the parking lot behind the museum by two cops that snuck by on moto. They asked for my passport, I showed, I told them I see all the homeless smoking crack around me and though it was legal to smoke weed, they asked if I had anything else on me, i emptied my pockets (had three more blunts in my underwear since i just bought.. always hide lol)..and they just said don't do it again and left.

i was also stopped more memorably by the santa fe bus stop on calle 23 i think, on the platform waitfing for the transmillenio. just random pat down thing. had 2 grams of blow in my sock, and a blunt in my pocket. the cop took the joint, asked. if i had more, i said no, and he said have a good day. luckily didnt check my socks but i always have 150-250k spare on me in case of a pay off needed. but they're really just looking for dealers.

You won't get a hard time or anything unless you're an asshole to the cops or are carrying serious weight. Just use street smarts. and yes, when im at periodisista or parque boston where there are dozens of ppl smoking, when a cop comes, they all put it out.
Good first hand experience and common sense approach. The cops there are ok for the most part and if you treat them well and with respect things should go well. It is illegal to smoke in public so a word to the wise should be sufficient. Helps to speak a little Spanish and if you're a senior like me, that helps too. The advice the one guy gave would only bring trouble. Anyway, times with weed and NO money get you through better than times of money and NO weed. I'll be back in a couple months. If you're still around we will chat since not too many gringos go there, at least not at night. But one last thing, the other stuff popular there is a tougher situation.

Even in Park Periodista where I go often, everyone is openly smoking but when cops come by they put the joints out. Don't listen to the bad advice given by another guy here. Let him go out on La 70 or any other street and smoke a joint in front of the police and tell them what he told you to say. Let's see what he reports back. Be smart and. Be safe.

Nothing wrong with showing a little kindness actually, and in reality you would gain a little more respect.

All this talk of these girls that do swindle, lie, rob, deceive, etc, etc.

Showing a little appreciation to a genuine girl is not a bad thing if you're not overboard and a fool about it.

Just my humble opinion, and that's how I go about it all.

    Good Karma and Respect.

    Racism or Classism

The current state of racism in Medellin is more overt compared to the USA, but at the same time more superficial and less malignant. Perhaps this is because Colombia is at that tipping point of becoming a developed nation, so the impacts of racism are still mainly cultural and not financial. Really shooting from the hip here.

It popped right up on Google maps. Every airport should have a strip club nearby. I'll try to remember to check it out in May.
