Do you think it's worth going to BA for a few days or would it get old? I have a hunch that it might be interesting to me. Are the restaurants good and there anything to do besides the boat rides?

Is there ANYTHING worth siteseeing in Buenaventura, most of the reports have pretty negative about the city. That it was dangerous and an ugly port town. Any beaches there?

Downtown there is a tourist port where you can sign up for launch trips to Bahai Malaga and other tourist destinations. The boat takes about an hour. Bahai Malaga nature preserve has hotels, bars, restaurants, sand streets, only Claro cel, no internet except slowest Claro, a dark sand beach, great whale watching in late summer early autumn (none of this safety oriented whale watching of the USA or Canada; your captain takes you right up next to a giant grey whale in his little motorboat) , exploring the jungle on boat, wild life, etc. Lots of Colombian tourists here.

The city itself seems like the pits for sightseeeing.

I survived the insane 2hr $10 bus ride from Cali on Trans Mar. I almost got religon again. Any port city this size has got plenty of hookers. If you're a slime like me, just go to cheap bars ask around and they'll show up! Paid 30k for 61 minutes. I always say 61. Not 60 cause I insist they don't short my time. After a couple of sessions I just get massages. Full body of course. Stout black girls seem to do the best at that. Stay at the Hotel Cordillera for about $17, small room with air con, refrig, cold shower, TV, breakfast and balcony overlooking the street. Its a 5 min walk from bus station. Noisy as hell. Bring ear plugs, I use wax. A shortwalk away is the American Bar. They have about 15 girls, a little above my standards but as ashamed as I am to admit it I did two of them for 61 minutes each for about $37. That was the most I've ever paid but what the hell. I was in a good mood cause I made acouple of friends with Auzie mongers there. Lots of English speakers there. Its back to Cali this afternoon. I hope Bay Boy is still there. Cheers!

Well this surely ain't no tourist town. 500, 000 people and I must be the only gringo. A refreshing change of pace.

So, I went to this address. Supposedly a casa, Pererios (sp?) Calle 35 #5B-12, at Carrera 5. Quite a hike from the centro. Anyway, I found the right address, and knocked, and no one answered. It was in kind of a sketchy area, and had no markings, and I got the info from another forum from a 7-year old post, so I didn't hang around too long. Who knows, ownership of the building might have changed, and I might have had an unpleasant interaction / conversation. Anyway, after I left, I saw a fugly woman banging on the door for a while, and after a long while someone answered. If that woman was representative of who was working in there, then it was better as a pass.

Seeing as how it's Saturday night, the town should be live tonight. Will start at Star club, apparently the one place that is most like a strip club, and report back with findings. Plenty of eye candy on the street, hopefully it's in the clubs tonight too.

Wiki: Turbo lies near the southeastern tip of the Dariéand Gap and is the northern terminus of the main route of the Pan American Highway in South America. There is currently no paved road connecting through the region to Yaviza, Panama, where the highway continues through Central and North America.

Why is that? Intentionally?

Environmentalists don't want it developed, I saw a while back the government was putting a road through anyway, a railway was supposed to be put through there as well, alot of coal down there in Colombia. Haven't heard anything lately. A lot of changes with roads connecting cities is coming in the next few years, I think their be more people going to the coast on weekends from the inner cities.

Have anyone visited Turbo?

Seems to me that this city would enjoy the same climate as Cartagena, but with few foreign tourists.

That makes it interesting, at least to vivist for week or so, since Medellin, having it all but a beach.

I read on Wikipedia that the Panamerican Highway is broken above Turbo, so it seems dificult to access to Panama, even if it very close by which is part of the Catch 22 situation I encounter about leaving Colombia to renew my tourist visa. It cost $750 US to travel from Medellin to San Jose, where I have a dear friend, while the corresponding trip in USA, Europe or Asia would the like $100-200 US. The only cheap rout is to Ecuador, but it seems boring.

I wondered the same thing myself when traveling through Panama. The Darien Gap is the only break in that highway from Chile to Alaska.

Even though milions have been poured in it's never been developed. Probably the Panamanian government prefers it that way. It provides a natural barier to the drug war activity that is hapening in Colombia and cow disease too.

What about crossing into Maracaibo? I supose that's further for you?

I visited Donde Robinson recently (don't have an address. Just asked a taxi driver. I arrived there 10:30pm).150k for a chica (2hours). Onsite is not possible. So we went to a love motel (another 20k). I had a 20year old girl from Barranquilla with a really hot body. And she was really into it until I came. Afterwards she did use her mobile even if I tried to bang her again. Sometime I thought she would stop using it and concentrate on what I was doing, but although she was somehow participating, but not fully, as she was typing all the time.

I had planned to go to Buenaventura but a friend who is there semi-regularyly said the same thing. He did mention that while it looks safe. The crime stats have drastically improved recently, it is still a seedy port town. The crime stats are a mirage as they have reduced gunning you and leaving the body. They now dispose of the body. No body. No crime.
