How I arrived:

I arrived by bus from Medellin, I learned something new that there is actually a 2nd bus terminal called terminal del sur located near Poblado (makes sense since the other main one is called terminal del Norte). Anyways the bus company is called Flota Occidental and it was a pleasant 5 hour bus ride from Medellin to Pereira. Where I stayed:

I managed to find a girl friendly airbnb located in a very central area off of Cra 7 and Calle 18 about one block from Plaza Bolvar and 4 blocks to Parque Libertad. The aparta-estudio had excellent high speed internet with my own dedicated router and 220 mbps connection. Had an HDTV with Netflix and other streaming apps. It had hot water in the shower from a real hot water heater (not a ducha elctrica). I'm on an ongoing mission to find a town nearby a main city to spend a year or two in. The weather was fine. 33 see during the day, never below 24 see at night, and very dry like 9 per cent humidity, on my trip.

I stayed at the ESTELAR Villavicencio Hotel about $60 US per night, it was a very nice hotel, likely built by Movich.

Taxi's are metered, don't require unusual calculations or multipliers, just pay what is on the meter.

Most rides were a dollar or two, and the bus terminal was 11,000 COP as it is to the east of town. Uber and Didi are available and I use them to avoid using up small bills.

First night I went downtown about 9:30 PM. I went to Plaza Libertad, and it was populated with a few families. Parc Hache had three old working girls and a tranny.

The next day I went downtown earlier in the day. Parc Del Hache was solidly family type activities. I started out on the arterial roads southwards and found a barber near where later the working girls congregated. 25 K for a cut and a shave.

I decided to go to Pasto as it was on the way to Ipiales for the Las Lejas sanctuary and boy am I happy I came to this place. It's a bit out of the way though. You can take a flight from Bogota or Cali to Pasto airport which is a tiny little airport but has one of the most beautiful approaches. It's also kind of rainy and windy, also like Bogota, so don't get any impressions of this being Medellin.

Experience 1: The ugly.

The people are very friendly. Even with my limited Spanish I had a number of good conversations with locals that I tend not to have in Medellin or Cali.

The taxi drivers are really honest and you can hail them from the street. Cost of going anywhere in the city is 7 k, no matter how close or far.

Few tourists. This is relatively unspoiled Colombia.

Con:

It is kind of a pain in the ass to get here. Fly into Bogota, then connect to Pasto then take a pretty long taxi ride.

Most things are in-call so you either need to rent something hourly or get a girl friendly place but since most of the nicer places have security that will know you pretty well since you will likely be the only foreigner.

You need decent Spanish here. My Spanish is probably around B1 level and I would say that is the minimum to get around here.

There is just about nothing to do here. I did all the attractions in the city in about 4. 5 hours and that was with walking for about 2 of them. If you like churches there are some beautiful ones here and there is a lake you can go to that is about an hour away as well as the volcano that towers over the city (but is a 8-10 hour hike) but that's really about it. A bunch of small plazas and museums are around but they are small and can generally be seen in 30 minutes each.

Food options are limited as it is not really a major international city. They don't even have a McDonalds here.

On weekdays just about everything (restaurants, bars, clubs) closes by 11 and on weekends things close by 2. Not exactly a nightlife kind of city but there appear to be some options.

You aren't going to see too many girls on the street by themselves. I usually see girls with their mothers which makes it awkward for me to approach.

Uber exists but is going to cost more than taxis and is very limited.

Overall:

I think there is potential here for those of you who can speak at least a reasonable level of Spanish, don't waste your time here if you at duolingo level. I would say it is a terrible place to vacation at beyond 2-3 days but if you work remotely like me, it is a cheap, not hot place where you can really ingratiate yourself to the local community. I am too young to know but maybe this was how Medellin was before certain people fucked it up. I'm going to visit Bogota for a bit after this but I may return here depending on if I can find the same quality. I think you can probably be here for around a month before running out of working girls (depending on your type) but probably can stick here longer if you are proficient and getting civvies as there are plenty of hot 16-25 yo girls here, though I'm not sure how difficult the are to pick up as it appears to be a smaller more conservative city.

Whiskeria Dona Tere in Pereira is NOT the place Coupe66 is talking about. There are no pool tables there. A drinking bar w girls (10-20 at certain times). Rooms in the back. Its on Carrera 6 close to Parque Lago. Closes at 10 or 11. I've never been to Parque Libertad late night. Been there a lot during the daytime. Always chicas hanging around. I remember Cr 8 having dollar stores and food outlets, not as a place for mongering. It would be interesting to tie down where this pool hall is located, as Pereira is a bit of a desert for late night mongers.

Not to rub the town in the wrong way, it's got a great gritty workers vibe to it.

The first time I went there an old guy over 90 was spinning 78 RPM records from noon until whenever at his bar, which was cool. On the next trip he was replaced by a computer, which was not.

It's a short cab ride from the Airport, the weather is warm and it seems to rain in cycles. I'm thinking of revisiting this year, so recent reports would be appreciated.

I don't remember Whiskeria Dona Tere having pool table, but it's got Puta. I went several years ago weh the Hotel Movitch was under $100 and walking distance to the central core.

I recall that this bar closed early, like 8 pm and I nvr did find a great late night hangout. The girls were great, I took one in the club and bar fined another.

I went at Christmastime and loved the vibe of the town, again keeping in mind the mongering seems to end early. I never spent much time at the Parc Libertad, but I've heard it's got some late night action.

Whiskeria Dona Tere in Pereira is NOT the place Coupe66 is talking about. There are no pool tables there. A drinking bar w girls (10-20 at certain times). Rooms in the back. Its on Carrera 6 close to Parque Lago. Closes at 10 or 11. I've never been to Parque Libertad late night. Been there a lot during the daytime. Always chicas hanging around. Once in a while theres a good one.
