I just returned from a short trip to Pereira, Colombia. I want to thank Piano Player, Gonefishin, and World Travel for their reports and information.

Pereira has a population of 500,000 people. It is located between Manizales (400,000) and Armenia (300,000). Both Manizales and Armenia are about 90 minutes away by car. Also, Pereira is located between the major cities of Medellin, Cali, and Bogota and all 3 of these cities are located many hours away. Although Pereira is located between these 3 major cities, it clearly has the feeling of Medellin. There is even a saying that Pereira is a small (chiquito) Medellin. The looks of the people are clearly similar to the looks of the Paisas in Medellin as well.

I stayed the Apartahotel San Juan del Lago. Cra. 7 a. No. 25-34. The hotel is perfectly located in El Centro near the corner of Parque Lago and the location is easy to find. The hotel has between 15-20 rooms located on 3 floors. The one negative is that upon entering one must carry their luggage up about 25 stairs to the main floor. The property manager is Liliana Restrepo and she lives onsite. The online rate was between 100 k - 120 k per night but when I called directly (to inquire about the chica fee) I was quoted 80 k with no deposit required. The chica fee was 25 k. There weren't many hotel options in Pereira and the nicer hotels charged a minimum of a 70 k chica fee or more. BTW all of the rooms have different layouts so ask which rooms are available upon arrival and compare a few. I would stay at this hotel if I were to visit Pereira again.

I took the bus to Pereira from Medellin. 41 k. Online it said 4.5 hours with a 20 minute stop for food. In the bus station, they said 5-6 hours. Bus driver said more or less 6 hours. 6 hours and 20 minutes later I arrived.

I returned by plane from Pereira using EasyFly Airlines. Two prop engines and 26 minutes from takeoff to landing in Medellin. I attempted to purchase my ticket online using my credit card the night before doing a day trip to Manizales. Their system was not allowing international credit cards. The next morning I was forced to take a taxi to the airport to buy my ticket and the price had changed from 140 k to 190 k. The time and hassle of doing this cost me a planned day trip to Manizales. I would recommend the plane versus the bus. I would recommend the bus from Medellin to Guatape (2 hours) or Jardin (3 hours) but with the bus ride being over 6 hours was the difference making the plane a better option.

A note to you guys traveling to Colombia: If you have a short trip I would not recommend Pereira. The major cities in Colombia have better infrastructures with many more mongering options than Pereira. For you guys who have extended stays in one of Colombia's major cities I would recommend Pereira as short 3-4 day side trip.

Note to World Travel: La Mansion de David needs to be put on the list. This is one of the most popular places in the city and was mentioned as such by Gonefishin.

Note to Jackson: Pereira not Armenia needs to have it's own thread. Currently Armenia is listed while Pereira and Manizales are not. Maybe a thread name Pereira / Manizales / Armenia. If I had to list one it should be Pereira IMHO. Just an idea. Do as you will.

A friend and I drove in private car from Medellin, stayed Monday / Tues night. Highway route is good road, slow winding traffic at times due to semis. Took us 4 hrs with lunch stop. Renting apt via airbnb close to centro. First impressions are what Medellin might have looked like 30 years ago. Less noise, traffic and more space to move around in. I was very comfortable walking and talking with the locals who call themselves paisas as well. A lot already written about what's available but I would describe action like this, no casas like Medellin, the casas are turned into bars with plastic chairs / tables and nicer places have sofas and such. Two types I found with help of local girl I grabbed out of " Whiskeria Dona Tere". Day type casas / bars that open early like 10/11 am and close 8/10 pm and night type casas / bars that open when the day ones close and stay open till early morning. Prices are cheaper at daytime casas and the younger chicas seem to frequent the night time bars. Of course there are the regular chica bars / strip.

I agree with what's been written before on the places on the list / map and will include some notes from the few I liked most.

Whiskeria Dona Tere is a day time bar (not the hours posted before) and had that local bar feel, rooms are very small but half hour with girl / room is only 60 k. Good selection here and close to Parque Lago with lots of places to eat. Exit fee was only 20 k which I jumped on and my girl showed me some places she knew about. Her price was 100 k and time was never mentioned. Stayed with me most of the night and would suggest this route as the best to find other places to monger.

Bar Tranvia, another bar on the corner at the Parque Lago is filled with old hags, stay away.

Flores Frescas-strip bar, I was sitting across the street at a small bar watching who was going in and out of this place. Chicas seemed young and pretty enough but then saw some local guys walk in. Not 2 minutes later they left and came to the bar I was at. I asked them what happened and they said they are asking ridiculous prices for drinks. Never entered. There was a 5 k peso cover that night.

Update on my plans to go to Calima. I met this girl during a trip to a caribbean island. Instead of going to Calima I decided to return to that same island while she was still there to see her and others off course. I'm now on the island. Because it's not a short trip I'm thinking of staying there for 7 days, two nights sounds too short of a time for such a long flight. Relax. The only thing that might get kidnapped is your Johnson by that chica. I also did a trip to Calima many years ago with a regular chica although it was just a day trip. Calima is not really a monger destination unless you bring a couple of hookers with you to party at a finca although it's a bit tricky to organize such a thing, not to mention getting chicas like that to spend a whole weekend with you away from the city unless you pony up some significant cash.

Anyway, if you're really worried about security, you can stay at a resort with many other people instead of a more private finca. It all really depends on how you want to spend time with this chica and what your relationship is like with her. How well do you know her? Do you trust her? Has she lied about anything that could be important? Small lies are okay because every chica does that down there.

I think worst case scenario is you get bored and you have a mild case of blue balls if she holds out. She also might just be trying to milk you out of a free vacation and some gifts.

There's a place called lake Calima, a 2 hour drive north of Cali. It's a touristy area where a lot of Colombians seem to go on weekends with family. I met a girl who's now inviting me to visit her in her hometown, not far from lake Calima. So her village is not directly at the lake Calima, but a bit more to the north.

I have never been to Colombia, and before I go with my friends in 2016, I'm thinking about doing a short trip to the outskirts of Cali and see this girl. Looked into renting a finca for us, and prices are nice, especially with the weak peso at the moment. However, I have no idea of the current security situation in that area, actually Colombia as a country is still one big question mark for me.

If I go I'll go light and leave the address where I'm going and my travel itinerary at a friend's house, just in case something happens to me or I don't come back at all. At least there will be some information of where I went. Can't tell my parents where I'm going. The place also doesn't have internet so I suspect it'll be a challenge to contact anyone. Now you may be thinking "Is pussy worth all this" hehe, my answer to that would be "No, it's not". But I'll also be exploring the area, I like nature and love a good hike. So in a sense it's a relaxing / activity vacation in the hills, combined with good company. I'm an adventurer but that doesn't mean I'm irresponsible in my actions, so I'm trying to assess the risk (if any) and maybe some of you who know the Calima area can tell me a bit about it. General thoughts on this trip are also welcome from people who have been to Cali / Colombia or live there.

Thanks to WorldTravel and others for excellent lists and maps; there is not much useful info I can add. One useful bit of information is that there is a Citibank ATM on the first floor of the Victoria shopping mall, near the Juan Valdez cafe at calle 19 and Cra 11. The downtown area, unlike Medellin and Manizales, is full of people and seems quite safe at least in the earlier part of the evening (until 11 or so on weekends).

Star Club. Carrera 13, #19-48. Opens around 7 pm, but not much happening until later. The first strip show on a Thursday was at around 12:00 am. I paid no cover charge. The beers were 12,000 pesos. Nice selection of girls, maybe 15 or so. Many pricing options were offered. If you buy a half-bottle of guaro or rum for about 70 K, you get a naked lap dance for two songs. You can get a private lap dance for a price between 25 K and 50 K (I think they pay the bar 10 K and negotiate whatever they can with customer.) For a room the chica pays the bar 15 K. I was offered 80 K by one, and 100 K by another. The interior reminded me a bit of San Diego show in Medellin. No hustle, nice vibe, tip the waiters the equivalent of a dollar or two and they will be very helpful, bringing you girls you select. I was impressed by the quality of the chicas but tastes vary. Some fat some thin, some silicone some natural.

I also stopped by Flores Frescas and Dona Tere. What a contrast. Flores Frescas wants to be the high-end option. They charge a 5,000 peso cover charge, and drinks start around 15,000. Girls want 180,000 for 30 minutes in a room. Also offered were dances priced similarly to Star. There were about 6-8 girls on a Friday evening around 9. Generally attractive but no better than Star Club. The club is smaller than Star, and I was told the rooms are nicer, with jacuzzis etc. I did not partake because the house pig cornered me and told me her tales of woe for half an hour. I did see a stunner on my way out. There were fewer than 5 clients at any given time.

Dona Tere, on the other hand, was chock-full of guys, wall to wall. It looks like any other street-level bar. There were 5 or so chicas I could see, all of them quite cute, but the ratio seemed very unfavorable. I did not get an update on prices.

"If you are in Leticia, then mongering is not the reason why you are here. There are tons of excellent places in Colombia filled with gorgeous chicas and much better weather. However, if you are looking for a girlfriend for the night after exhausting trips to the jungle there are places you can visit here.

There is a place called Excalibur Bar, pink color, one story building on La Frontera (Internacional Ave) between Calle 7 and 8, right in front of the convenience store. There are two places with girls sitting in the chairs in front, bar and private rooms are in the back. It's a short walk from the hotel district in Leticia, no need for a cab, place is fairly safe, even at night. There are several stores across the street and a night food stall. You can also take a cab for 2-3 K from the center of Leticia, if you stay by the river. Talent on hand is mostly brought over here from Medellin and Cali to work for few months, about 10 to choose from, ranging from 4-8. Since there is not much competition cost are far higher than in BOG, it will cost you 80 K and there is not much room for negotiations.

Further down the street as you cross into Brazilian town of Tabatinga are few places on the left as you cross the border, but they appeared dodgy and unsafe. There is a huge local dance parties in Tabatinga if you happen to be there during the weekend, place is called Compra, if I remember correctly. Any cab from Leticia can take you there. 15 min drive for 30 K. It is for sure a sight to see, and if your Portuguese is good you might get lucky.

Stay in Leticia, on Colombian side, much more pleasant then Tabatinga. ".

"Gardenias, just get a city tour from a taxi driver (15 k COP or less) and he will drive you past it. I walked by one night (I was already occupied with a non-pro Paisa I met on a jungle tour) and there were about 20-25 chicas working and maybe 10 mongers. It is important to note that every bar / restaurant / nightclub here is an open-air outdoor affair without air conditioning, and the heat and humidity here is oppressive. ".

Thanks for the Manizales report, PianoPlayer! I'm headed there in early January and have been wondering if there's anything going on there. By the way, does anyone have experience with the Manizales fair the first week of January? Apparently it's as wild as Manizales gets, which for a college town could be pretty cool. Anyhow, I'll report when I'm there and really appreciate the excellent scouting.

Club Joy is still there but was not open on a Tuesday night. It is on Avenida Centenario in the block before the bullfighting arena as you go down the hill. The address is calle 10,24-139 but calle 10 merges into the Avenida Centenario, which eventually becomes the Autopista del Cafe (highway towards Pereira and Medellin).

Cassa Show and Manhattan are next to each other, on Avenida Centenario, about 500 meters downhill past the Plaza de Toros. I stopped in both places, saw 3 unattractive girls in one and 2 unattractive girls in the other. The doorman at Cassa Show tried to convince me that more girls would come later (this was about 9:30 pm) but I decided not to wait.

Instead I got a taxi to Sabadell, which is a few kilometers down the Avenida / Autopista leaving Manizales, about 6,000 pesos taxi fare from Cassa Show (but only 8,000 back to centro). This clearly wants to be the high-end club. There was a 10,000 peso cover charge. The place was relatively dead on a Tuesday around 10:00 pm. Six decent chicas eventually appeared. Beer was 10,000. Cute chica's opening offer for 30 minutes in the room was 170,000, but then agreed to 150,000. The six girls were decent but not stunning, maybe 7's for my taste. They charge another 5,000 for a condom, this is the Spirit Air of strip clubs. On-site rooms are nice with beds and showers. Marcela, a blonde with big tits who told me she had worked at Pleyclub in Cartagena, was a great performer, albeit CBJ. They apparently have actual strip shows on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, but otherwise the girls just sit around staring at their cell phones.

All in all, not great for a first-time visit, but not bad either. Mongering here may be more fruitful at the weekend.
