Alvero is very honest and trustworthy most everyone who has used him has thanked me for recommending him. Always get him to give you a price upfront on everything, remember you can always say no. He also knows non-pro & pro girls for you. He is an English speaking taxi driver that I met while in Medellin, and has branched out. He has purchased a new much larger car (not a taxi) and is providing side trips outside of Medellin around Colombia for a very reasonable price. I talked to him yesterday and he asked me to spread the information that he is more than willing to take you on excursions to Manizales, Pereira, Armenia etc. to enhance your Colombian mongering experience. He still has his taxi that you can hire for the day or night for very cheap. Call him ahead of time tell him when you are going to arrive & he will be waiting for you at the airport to take you to your hotel or apartment. He charges 60.000cop

I have used him before and his services made my Colombian vacation much better, since I don't speak Spanish his help was invaluable and he really knows the area and lots of girls.

David33 was asking about La Dorada in Caldas state. El Dorado is a different place, apparently in the south of Colombia somewhere.

By the way, the lady that I know who used to teach in La Dorada, happily relocated back to Manizales, having gotten a job at one of the universities there. She used to tell me of her journeys there and back, the FARC roadblocks, the military roadblocks, the people who'd come into town, etc.... Enough things to let me know, she wasn't bs-ing when she said she needed to leave. We meet only in Manizales or Bogota.

She's 100% Colombian, born and raised. Imagine a gringo going there.

After reading this post I had to ask my chick in Medellin about this town that your speaking of. She has lived in Medellin her whole life. Although I have been to Medellin 37 times and have an Apartment there I DO NOT claim to be an Expert like others on this board.

BOTTOM line is that once I asked her about this puebla your speaking of she was VERY concerned why I was asking about it! She said even herself is scared when she goes there!

I told her I read about you and that there was a girl you knew that wanted you to come there! My chick was VERY concerned about this "girl" and WHY she wanted you to come way out there!!! That's interesting. It looks like La Dorada is just north of Honda, which is close to halfway between Bogota and Manizales, where another road breaks north but eventually ends up in Medellin. I would not have guessed that FARC would be strong at such a seemingly significant point on the map. I would have thought I could drive from Bogota to Medellin or Manizalles without much risk.

Anyway, reading some of these posts, I'll think twice about doing that sort of thing anytime soon.
