Went to a hole by the Capwell Stadium about 2 blocks from it,there is a strip club called "Vikingo" with a viking statue up front and all it is a really sleazy place I saw girls picking up 50 cent piece from the stage the girls were about a 5 or less but the were charging like 8 bucks so who can complain.
For those of you who are lost just take a cab over to the stadium and ask around for the "Vikingo" or ask the taxi driver to take you there peace out

Hi guys:
I had some experiences in Gye some time ago. I was in "Isla del Tesoro" and it was fine, beautiful ladies, but a little expensive. However, seems to be a good place to go if you look for a low risk place (I am not saying the there is no risk, but since is an expensive place for the local standards.)
I was reviewing the posts in the forum and I have some questions for the experts, since I will be visit Gye in some weeks. Here they go:
How safe is Salome Night Club? At what hour is better to go in working days? I mean, an hour with few clients and good number of girls.
This "calle 18" where is located? It is safe to go for a foreigner? My first language is Spanish, so that is not a problem. Again, what is the best hour in terms of the trade-off safety and supply?
Of good is "Odissea Romana", compared with "isla del tesoro"?
Finally, I am looking for a nice girl for anal sex. I anybody knows the data of a woman with nice body. I mean, nice ass. And who do this type of job, I will appreciate the information.
Well guys, have fun and take care

I'm getting in GYE for a couple nights next week end.
Reading from the thread it seems like there are not too many strip clubs still open and that it can also be dangerous to hang out.
Nevertheless I'd like to know what strip clubs are still open and which one you would recommend if any.
Thanks a lot
Platoche

Hi Munch Lunch,
Thanks for your feedback. I will certainly give this some thought over the next few days. The offer is very close to my dream job so it is worth considering.
I too have lived in some dangerous cities, such as Joburg, so I know what it is like. But I spent the last 5 years in Bangkok so I need to retrain my thinking to GYE as BKK is a very safe place in the expat areas.
And as you said I just have to be careful. The location of the university is in Samborondon, which I believe is in the north maybe outside GYE.
Thanks I really do appreciate your input.

I have lived in some very dangerous cities like Mexico City, Bogota, etc. and under the right circumstances, with the right ground support, they are livable. For example, if your contacts there at the university could help you locate a safe apartment in a safe neigborhood close to the university and coach you on security measures it might be doable.
However, just to fly in get an apartment, etc. without a lot of local help would be a disaster. This isn't Des Moines, Iowa for example. Only you can make the right call, but I would hate to see you throw away this oportunity if you want it. Be be aware of the risks, learn to protect yourself and possibly get a "security" premium to your paycheck. Plus, the GYE women are a lot of fun. As others here on the board have said the best loving girls come from the coastal areas.
Good luck making your decision,
M.L.

Hi Guys,
I appreciate the heads up on GYE. The reason that I asked for this info is that I have been offered a job in GYE at the University Espirutu Santo and wanted to get an idea of life there.
I have Googled GYE and from the reports it says that the place is clean, friendl and safe. It is the biggest city and has lots of trade etc.
But I know that these tourist sites don't always tell the complete truth.
From reading your responses it looks as though I am better off NOT taking the job.
Thanks for the help guys.

BKk212,
I get to GYE about once a year on business and can assure you the city is not safe. Bogata seems like a walk in the park compared with GYE. My clients always meet me at the airport with bodyguards, take me to a safe hotel, and we ride in armored cars. My take is that GYE can only be done right if you have contacts there who will look out for you.
Do you have family, business or other specific reasons for choosing GYE? If so; I could see why you want to be there. But, it is an ugly, dangerous, hot, industrial city with limited cultural or historical attractions. Compared to the rest of Ecuador housing prices, maid services, etc. are relatively expensive; based on what my clients there complain about.
Pardon me for being so negative. But I would just about rather go anywhere else than GYE. That said, if you have to be there, just "google" the local newspaper want ads for rentals and check with the on-line real estate firms. The only good thing about GYE is that the local girls do actually know how to screw, as they are "costenas"; that is from the coast rather than the more reserved highlands of Ecuador.
Sorry I can't help you with more specific information.
M.L.

Hi Guys,
I have read the posts in this section and need some information in the following areas: Safety in GYE, is it really a problem for a person who is not a local. Do they have fitness clubs in GYE, ie. Weights, machines etc.
What would be the rent for long term apartments, with facilities such as: security, TV Sat., laundry, maid service?
If someone would help me out in these issues I would be very grateful.
Thanks.

I once stayed at a best western in jaco beach costa rica and they wanted $50 to bring up women. They told me that it keeps the numbers down so that they dont have too much criminal activity to deal with.It was all BS to rip tourists off.I reminded the manager many times that prostitution is legal there.
Have you stayed at this hotel before surfer and was it just a nice employee that let you do this or was it company policy?I've looked at that hotel before.
Intresting what you say about guayaquil I'm thinking of hitting the coast of ecuador flying into gye first.
I have been to quito and dodged a would be mugging one night but I felt the danger way before they had the chance.

GYE is NOT a city to wander around, especially at night (I have been all over Colombia and GYE is sketchier than ANY Colombian city!). Quito has a bad reputation for muggings but it FEELS reasonably safe (unlike GYE where you need to CONSTANTLY be on guard). There is a reason all the security guards wear bullet proof vests.
In small towns, $5 hotels are around but in the big cities the bottom end places will be VERY insecure IMHO.
The Best Western in downtown GYE is very girl friendly and, with bargaining, is about $30.Last edited by Surfer; 03-31-06 at 01:02. Reason: addition

If you want something really cheap, you should check these ones out:
* HOTEL DEL RIO, Victor Manuel Rendon y Boyaca (downtown), about $7 or $8 per night I guess.
* HOTEL PLAZA CENTENARIO, just across the street from the Centenario Park (that's where the name comes from hehe), Lorenzo de Garaicoa y Velez, between $10 and $13 per night depending on whether the room has air conditioning or not.
I wouldn't recommend Hotel Velez or Hotel Sander, since they are not girl-friendly.
If you want a better place to stay, although not so girl-friendly, you can stay at Hotel Alexander (Luque y Pedro Moncayo), just one block from Centenario Park. This one would be around $24 per night.

Posts: 1171Thanks for the help guys, but that's really more than I'm looking for. I keep reading things that say there are plenty of $5 and $15 hotels in Ecuador, but they never give any names. I guess I'll just haveto poke around when I get there.

I stayed a few days last week at Hostal Quil. It's about 10 minutes from the airport, on a main road. The night manager speaks english. The single room was $41 including tax, double room is $51. They will give 15% discount for a weeks stay. Clean, ac, hot water nice bathroom, a room near the main road is somewhat noisy, but there are less noisy if you ask.

In Ecuador, a hotel will call themselves a hostal to save on their taxes.
