I rented a car at the old airport and on my out of town on I35 (Pan American Highway) I saw the new airport off in the distance. I would judge it to be at least 30 minutes from the New to the Old one. It looked nice but the other one right in the middle of town was nice.

Sorry for the delayed report but I've heard that the same problem exist: when you leave this chongo some "chulos" ("boyfriends" of some girls working there") try to rob clients leaving the chongo. I just spent 2 weeks in Quito; this was my 4th visit in 10 years. Things have changed quite a bit, everything is more expensive and service has become more mechanical and business-like. But heck, that's the way it is.

General tips:

-Bring plenty of 1's. 5's and coins, it seems all businesses, big or small, never have change. So plan ahead and bring plenty.

-Always carry your I'd. I have a security sock where I put my passport, extra money and a credit card. Just in case.

-Violent crime is less prevalent but anything that is not under chain and lock will be stolen swiftly. Be careful with your belongings.

-Carry a bag with the following items: hand desinfectant and toilet paper. Hand soap and toilet paper seem to be foreign concepts in this land. Only the very high-end restaurants and hotels put those in the restrooms.

-I excercise daily and just passed a physical with flying colors. Altitude in Quito will affect most people, especially if you mix it with alcohol. Take it easy the first couple of days.

-Things die on Sundays. Keep that in mind.

-During the holidays business hours are more unpredictable than ever.

Hobby activities:

-Masajes Medellin (La Gasca & 110 Fernando Meneses) : Residential casa. This used to be a great spot to find young and pretty Colombians. Well, I attempepted several visitis just to find it closed.
