The power outages now are only of 4 hours a day, and depends in which part of the city you are. (I'm in Guayaquil). The papers describe when and where the blackouts occur, more info at: http://eluniverso.com/2009/11/16/1/1...l?p=1354&m=638

Posts: 58More about the rolling blackouts
Unfortunately, this is not new to Ecuador. It's been about 10 years since I lived there, but that was a daily problem for this time of year. It affected every city and you just had to learn how to adjust. Most hotels, hostels, restaurants and even certain night clubs, and locations that do not exist anymore had generators. I personally wouldn't change my vacation plans.

Once again thanks to Tungurahua for his post. It's funny that ISG as been the best source of information for Ecuador and not only the ladies. I am scheduled to make my second trip to Ecuador this week after a fantasitc first trip last year. After reading Tungurahua's post, I may postpone my trip.
I called both my hotel and Finn McCool's to confirm the rolling outages. There are 4 hour outages everyday but Sunday. Times are usually day time such as 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM. However, there are some outages at night. Traffic comes to a standstill since all the traffic lights are affected as well as the Trolley. I've been warned about not being anywhere near the Marischal during a blackout since everything goes completely dark making the streets a great place for muggings. I was also informed that areas outside of Quito are effected even worse. Ibarra and Octavo gets 8 hours a day w/o electricity for instance.
Needless to say, this puts a major dent in my travel plans. I've been to developing contries where the electricity goes out often. It's a drag. Warm beer and spoiled food not to mention safety are just a few concerns. I'm curious to hear any reports from people currently in Ecuador. I have to decide in about 24 hours if I am going to abort my trip.

Thanks to El Exigente who brought to my attention the recent electricity problems in Ecuador (posted in Travel Plans & Announcements). Man, the variables that can make or break a holiday. For the resolute monger pack candles, flashlights and stock up on batteries, please. Might want to bring your own iPod and speakers for tunes to set a romantic tone. And get used to drinking warm beers. Alternatively, if some chongos have generators then expect the entrance fee to spike 38 cents to pay for fuel. All the more reason to roll those pennies!
President Rafael Correa issued a decree in which he declared a state of electrical emergency nationwide for the next 60 days.

The blackouts continue and will do so for the next two months. In Quito various sectors are blacked out for 4 hours at a time. These blackouts are scheduled, and prior warning can be obtained from the electric utility's website. The power disruptions are very clearly diminishing the quality of life for all in Ecuador. Businesses which do not have generators are closing, traffic is strangled. Visitors should be aware of increased food poisoning risks as no business ever throws spoiled food away, and in many cases doesn't even know that spoiled food is bad for people.

EXPECT ROLLING BLACKOUTS THROUGHOUT ECUADOR
Hydroelectric power shortages are causing rolling blackouts throughout Ecuador. The government expects at least a 5% cut in power to residential areas. Quito is expecting 10 percent with rolling blackouts in the afternoon. The primary river that feeds the hydroelectric dam is down from 90 to 30 cubic meters per second due to the worst drought in 45 years. Newspaper reports say that businesses should not be affected. However, our experience in the past is that most establishments can expect to suffer some type of blackout.

The Latin American Herald Tribune:
PAUTE, Ecuador – Alarmingly low water levels at the hydroelectric power station in this southern Ecuadorian city are to blame for recurrent blackouts in the Andean nation over the past week, authorities say.
The reservoir water level at the dam on the Paute River, one of Ecuador’s largest, stood at 1,968 meters (6,450 feet) above sea level on Tuesday, compared with an average level of 1,991 meters and and a minimum level of 1,965 meters.
This 25-year-old facility meets approximately 40 percent of Ecuador’s total power needs, but at present only two of its 10 turbines are in operation and cannot guarantee more than 200 MW of electricity between them.
“I’d never seen this so empty,” said one of the employees who accompanied reporters on a quick tour of the state-owned plant’s installations.
Paute can supply up to 20,000 MW per hour under normal conditions, but present output has fallen to just 4,000-5,000 MW per hour amid a severe drought.
Low rainfall amounts began causing alarm in September, traditionally a rainy month in Ecuador, and concerns grew further when the drought continued into October.
Residents of Quito, Guayaquil and other cities were hit with surprise nationwide blackouts last Thursday, while the government has called on citizens to reduce consumption as it seeks ways of mitigating the energy crisis.
Just a few miles from Paute, work is continuing on the new Mazar dam “to increase power generation at the Paute plant,” National Electricity Council Chairman Fernando Izquierdo said, though he added that production at Mazar would not start until next April.
Although drought conditions are expected to persist until December, an optimistic Izquierdo said expectations are for the country’s energy supply to increase next week. However, he still urged consumers to continue to conserve energy.
In that sense, he predicted that the current electricity rationing program – which includes power cuts of roughly four hours a day – could be reduced in half beginning next week.
A key factor in the improved outlook is a possible deal to import 1,200 MW per hour from northern Peru to meet demand in the southern Ecuadorian province of El Oro, Izquierdo said.
Colombia’s contribution will be smaller since that country is also suffering from drought conditions and, in a best case scenario, could offer Ecuador some 450 MW per hour. EFE

Ecuador depends on hydropower for 47.4 percent of its electricity.
http://www.sfexaminer.com/world/hydr...-69307067.html
... the length of programmed blackouts will be reduced by half once the power Peru agreed to sell Ecuador becomes available.
The head of the Quito Chamber of Commerce, Blasco Peñaherrera, said he expected the power shortages to last for at least another three months, costing the country’s economy as much as $1.8 billion in lost output.
President Rafael Correa blames the crisis on neglect by previous administrations that failed to build new power plants. He says his government has already started work on around a dozen new facilities. EFE

Can anyone recommend a driver for both Quito & Guayaquil. I want to visit the clubs but also take day trips outside both cities and don't want to rent a car. Any names and numbers would be appreciated.

Spent a couple of days/nights in town, here is my top 4 list:
4: Nightkats 5-10 ladies available, best time to go 11PM, Quality of girls: 6-7 some good looking girls in nice club but girls seem slightly reluctant to engage with customers, at least when I was there. I did not try any of the girls.
3: Guajira: Best in town for Daytime/afternoon Action? As Cafe Rojo is further away..by the aiport. Go around 2PM-5PM if you can. 5-10 ladies available, Quality of girls: 6-7 no loud music, easy to get in contact with the girls. I picked up a 35 yesr old or something really curvy and horny looking and acting MILF who let me touch her everywhere while chatting..........she promised that I could fuck and lick her in the ass for 20USD plus a small tip.....i could not resist! :-) really wild and sweaty sex in the room...some anal play...hard fucking, never fucked her in the ass...I forgot....:-) but still great sex, great value for money.
2: Extasis Very expensive compared to other places, but well worth the money if you prefer high-end places and you compare with similar places in international cities that are much more expensive. Quality of girls: 7-9, many with silicone tits: all very well dressed....a great luxury atmosphere. Best time to go around midnight. I picked up a very curvy Blonde Colombiana, a clear 9 in my book: lovelly face with full porn star lips, great make up, blue eyes that were probably fake colour too, tanned, Big fake tits, big fake ass, totally shaved. Think Barbie-pornstar. I like it fake if you wonder! :-) She made me sooo horny while chatting and touching me at the bar so I skipped the usual negotiations and probably payed more than I should: slightly over 200dollar including the bar bill (one lady drink and 3 drinks for me) and room and service charges whatever. the rooms upstairs are the best designed bordello rooms I have ever seen, really luxury! :-) The service was very good in a professional/porn movie kind of way....striptease, lapdance, BJ with, some kissing, licking..the usual, but she did it so good I came way too fast....but still worth the money. Sometimes you just have to let go and enjoy the moment.
1: Café Rojo: best in town. good atmosphere, loads of girls, all types, all seemed to be local, no Colombians. maybe 15-20 available, several with silicone tits. Best time to go is probably 2PM-5M, Quality of girls: 6.5-8.5. This place is awesome, lots of customers and girls. 20dollar gives you good sex with a really sexy girl. in one long afternoon, I fucked 3 different girls with breaks in between. that is not nomrla for me! :-) I really digged the combo of sexy girls with good attitude and sexy outfits in a medium sized club. High turnover means that the girl you choose probably has fucked many guys before you on that night, if you don't like this you either need to come early or go elsewhere. It is just by the airport, a good idea is to visit this place while flying in/out: there are some hotels/hostals in the area where you can get a cheap room for either night or day.
In total I really liked Quito for mongering. I visisted many of the cheaper places which were fun and interesting but if you are a gringo tourist like myself I recommend the 20USD places for sex and the high end 200USD for looking.
Tungurahuas maps are a must:

Posts: 58I'm sure about bringing in street girls but La Colina Suites is extremely nice and you can bring in as many women as you like: www.lacolinasuites.com
As long as they look respectable, you won't have a problem.

Posts: 10Looking for Chica Friendly Hotel's in GringoLand
Will be in Quito over Thanksgiving and am looking for a couple of chica friendly hotels with a safe in the room in the Mariscal Sucre area aka Gringolandia. I'm not looking fo any low budget places but want a nice quiet place with TV and security. I plan on bringing back some street girls so it must be very tolerant of guests.
Any hotel recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I waited 2 weeks to report that 122 is dead and then of course the owners opened it again...
Hours are now 5 PM till 10 PM only.
Girl quantity and quality is obvioulsy low after being closed.
The future is uncertain, but then again it always is.
For now it's a $10 per pop low end place with diamonds in the rough thrown in once in a while. Go fu$% and report

Club 122 fell victim to unfair competition. A much larger prostitution ring opened offices nearby and had it closed for good.
Yes, the National Assembly (Congress) has moved some offices to a nearby building and had the Police close 122. Now only high rollers can play on that block...

Hola Mundo:
There are several threads about guest friendly hotels. Because I'm traveling on business I stay in the nicer places and they are all guest friendly as long as you keep it low key (Sheraon, Dann Carlton for example). I would mention it to the doorman and tell the chica to cover up when she arrives. Sometimes the hotel asks for her ID and makes her sign in. No big deal. Remember, it's legal, and the business hotels are probably where most of the visits take place.
For less expensive options search the threads.

Thanks for the nice report, and it sounds like you had a good time. Can you tell the hotel name you stayed? For my first trip in trip in November, I am looking for a chica friendly hotel in a safe location.

Posts: 58I had the same experience twice in Cafe Rojo three weeks ago. It's 20 dollars but when I finished they were asking for more money. I just left. Next time, I'll talk to management and find out what is the policy if a female tries to get more money out of their clients. I've never had that problem in Medellin Masajes, EL guajira, gatita calienta, night kats, or any other place.
Cafe rojo does have the best women but I don't like dealing with any problems.

I think I have had a negative experience at Cafe Rojo, hard as it is to believe. Finally went and checked it out the other day, and hung out a bit, drinking a couple beers. Finally got together with Vanessa, an enormously-chested, curvy-bottomed Mantañita. Got to the room, and demanded extra; I drunkenly gave it to her, but she was a total clock-watcher, and fairly bitchy to boot. As fun as she is to look at, her attitude stinks. Caveat Emptor.
