Yesterday (Sept 2), I ventured out to a casa called "Guajira" based upon information on this forum from Tungurahua and others.

If you're fairly new to Quito, the best map of the city is a free tourist map that you can pick up at tourist information booths. It covers a wider area than any maps that I've seen in The Lonely Planet or Rough Guide travel books.

Anyway, using the map, I was able to locate most of the casas and clubs mentioned on this forum. I was pleasantly surprised to find at least three of them were located within a 5 minute walk from my hostal so I walked over to Guajira at 1273 Diego De Almagro at around 1: 00 PM. The place is a non-descript house. It didn't look like a *****house. There was no sign, "red light", or anything else that would tell you it's a *****house. I'm not sure how it gets its name "Guajira. " I didn't see any foot traffic so I left.

I walked around the corner to 270 La Nina. The same situation at that location. A non-descript building.

I then walked around the corner to Body at 2309 6 de diciembre. With the neon body sign, you know this is a "club, " but it was closed until 9: 00 PM.

At around 5: 00 PM, I walked back to Guajira and noticed foot traffic so I walked inside. After entering, I noticed a small bar with 5 chicas and a couple of customers. A very nice 23 year old chica got up and introduced herself to me. She asked me if I wanted anything to drink. I said "no. I will request this one last time. Anybody coming to Quito that can pick up a new Olympus Stylus 800 -- NOT the 810 -- camera for me would be extremely appreciated. The 810 is useless to me with no remote. Cost for the model 800 should be between $350 to $400US. You will be re-imbursed immediately upon our first meeting (providing you have the right camera). . . I am going to move to Cuenca for a week, slowly making my way to the border of Peru.

A new Olympus Stylus 800 is extremely difficult to find since it is a long abandon "orphan" unless you're willing to bid for a used or refurbish one on eBay. In the never ending "newer and better" camera contest, Olympus announced last week that next month (September), they will release 5-6 new point-n-shot cameras to replace their current models. Many of the new cameras have higher mega pixels (one model is 10 MP) at the same prices as the current models. I don't know if the new models have a remote.

I'll also be in Cuenca next week to scout the scene. I've been told there some action there, but you have to look a little harder.

I have always been curious to hit Divas on a Friday or Saturday night. Down the dark street we went, through the culvert. Unlike my first visit Divas was rocking tonight. I counted 22 chicas, 25 or so guys. Only a couple girls stood out along the lines of slender. We had our drinks. Couldn’t find Cassandras at 138 Bolivia. Walked there but there was no 138, or for that matter OE1-38. So gave up on this one.

After looking at Tung's list (Post# 417) which I normally carry a printout copy around with me, I see Cassandra's is located at N76-120 Av Galo Plaza Lasso (club #38 from that list). This I believe is one of the northernmost clubs on the list. It is north of the airport.

Club #16 states "a nameless bar" with the address of Bolivia 138 which is west of Gringolandia a couple of blocks. It is also the same block as El Swing at Bolivia 120 y Av 10 de Agosto (club #31). I haven't visited either of the two places even though I been by them a couple of times.

However, around the corner on 200 Juan Murillo (N21-132) y San Gregorio, there is La Galeria 200 (club #11) which Tung put under the $15 section of Centro. This is a mistake because I was there a few weeks back in which I paid a $7 ficha. This place had at least 10 girls, many attractive ones but also alot of local clientel the two times I went. Also, next door seems to be a place which I haven't checked out yet. Don't know the name but it doesn't appear to have a lot of customers lining up to get inside like La Galleria.

Also couldn’t find VIP 3 star, supposed to be next to 4399 10 de Agosto. Just saw an empty lot there.

You were right by VIP 3 star. Sometimes that entance is closed on 10 de Agosto but the one around the corner is always open. There are actually two entrances on that side: one to a separate bar and one to the club. The street runs diagonal to the other, has an overpass and the name I think is Republica.

I haven't been to Cassandra's yet except with Tung last Friday. May go try later today.
