DanDaMan's report of 10/13 is the premier reference for Cusco. I want to start out by thanking him for the time he took to write it.

Maybe it was weather, the smog, or the aggressive tourist touts around Plaza de Armas, but my experience in Cusco wasn't quite as jolly. I do, however, have a little new information to add.

Firstly, there was a serious "beauty drought" in all of the professional venues in Cusco; Santutis, Mama Africa, La Rumba, etc. -- very few girls above a 6 (IMO). Ironically, the higher end the club seemed to get, the less pretty the girls seemed to be.

    Let's take an individual look:

Mama Africa is a semi-pro joint with movies, music and tourists of both genders. On any given night you might find 20 or so free-lancers who show up for a little action. The place, however, had a bit of a feeling of a rip-off joint. Some of the girls seemed unnaturally hard-core. Most, though, were just chubby late-teens. The place is fun and friendly, though -- I had a great time there (drinking) and heartily recommend it as a place to pick up tourist chicks.

Santutis (or La Curva, Sol de Oro) is an outdoor brothel a little past El Condor. While cheap (about 20 soles for sex), the quality of women was abysmal. Fucking abysmal. Most of the 30-40 women present were about 30-50 pounds overweight -- many had 10-foot-identifiable body odor. Uh-huh. There was one cute girl there one night, but she would not perform BBBJ. Also, many of the girls fuck a new guy about every 15 minutes. Caveat emptor.

The two high-end clubs, La Rumba and Decameron, disappointed as well.

Decameron has not been mentioned by Dan -- it's just around the corner above the hill from the El Condor clubs (which I'll desribe a little later). It's supposedly the highest-end venue in Cusco.

I went there on a Thurs. and found about 15 girls to choose from. There is no entrance fee and no beds on site. Drinks are expensive and the girls get half (in cash) of whatever drinks you buy them. You can imagine how constantly harrassed you'll be to buy alcohol here.

The place is a perfect copy of a E. European club a la Prague, Budapest or Warsaw. The problem is, those clubs have good looking women -- women worth spending drink money on -- while this place lacked that quality of high-end beauty that these prices demand in a reasonable sportsman. Prices ranged in the 100-150 soles range, with negotiation expected. I do not know what the exit bar-fine is. I'm sure it's high.

La Rumba is a little higher up on the same line from El Condor. I wasn't there on a busy night, but it's about the same thing as Decameron. I must say I saw a few lovelies here. Give it a try.

"El Condor" signifies a large, pillored-statue of a condor around which cluster about 5 low-end clubs. Dan had some reservations about personal safety there, but I had absolutely no problems there 3 nights in a row. It's certainly nowhere near as rough as some of the joints I've explored in Lima and Brasil.

There's not much to see here, though. None of the clubs have an entrance fee, facilities or pretty girls. You can't even really live out some low-ball fantasy here. Beer's expensive, the girls are a little moochy, the Peruanos here get too drunk -- but again the place is fun in a wild-west kind of way. Check it out for the experience.

There's also a cluster of clubs sort of on the way to the airport on Alameda Pachacutec -- with names like "Noika," "Manhattan," etc. Most of these places seemed to be dance-halls, wherein the guy is expected to buy drinks for the girl of his choice and have a dance or two. Most of the women in all of these clubs were not there (surprisingly) for sex. These clubs certainly looked like pick-up joints. Anyway (to use a refrain), beer's expensive and the girls weren't attractive.

Well, that's about it. I was talked-up by Peruanas in Plaza de Armas quite frequently. That whole scene, though, seemed a little like a tourist lottery -- and too much work (with dinner-dates, shopping, courting, 6.5 looks, etc.) to be very intersting to me. I don't know, maybe Brasil has just spoiled me.

I hate to be such a nay-sayer, especially considering the rave reviews Cusco has received from the experienced sex-travelers below (and I want to say that I certainly respect their opinion) -- maybe I just had a bad run.

    Happy Hunting,
    JWadd, B.A.

Hey Rocky, thanks for the good advice.

Can you get any of the medication you describe at any Pharmacist in Cuzco by name?

    Hey Larry,

Good to hear you are considering coming to Cuzco. You'll love Cuzco!

It was good to meet you in Barranco and I enjoyed our latina-chasing activities in Miraflores.

I'll be here for a few more weeks, as it is hard to leave. Hope to see you soon.

DanDaMan's Guide to Essential Quechua - Part I

Spanish is not the primary language here in Cuzco; most cholitas speak the language of the Inkas (Quechua) and some don't know any Spanish. Therefore, I put together a few essential phrases to help fellow mongers with their cholita pussy-chasing abilities.

    Imaynan kasianqui? (How are you?)
    Alli llanchu (Very well)
    Iman suti'nki? (What's your name?)
Noqqa munakuku illariyta tutantin (I want to sleep with you)
Noqqa chomqqayta munani ņuņuyquita (I want to suck your tits)

    More essential phrases later...

Rocky Rocco's Guide to High Mountain Medicine

Believe it or not, I am a physician (a surgeon to be exact) volunteering here in Cusco. I've met a lot of fellow mongers here and unfortunately, many have been taken ill and have seeked my medical advice. So I've taken the time to put together a little guide that addresses some of the most common medical complaints that occur here.

    Soroche (altitude sickness):

Cusco is situated at about 3500 meters (over 11,000 feet) and the altitude must be respected. Most mongers come here and are sick for their first four days. Why suffer? A simple solution is to take Diamox. Take a conservative dose of 125 mg (one-half pill) twice a day for five days beginning two days before you arrive.

    Traveller's Diarrhea and Food Poisoning:

Unfortunately, at high elevations water boils at a lower temperature and consequently, it is more difficult to kill bacterial and parasitic contaminants. Most mongers suffer from some sort of food-related illness and it can really inhibit your cholita-chasing activities. Simple solution is to take Paldix Forte (Sulfametoxazol + Trimethoprima 800/160 mg) twice a day for 10 days.

    Parasites:

I suffered for years from parasites I picked up in the Caribbean. It took me years to get an accurate laboratory diagnosis as very few labs have the expertise to deal with tropical parasites. Additionally, the medicine available in the United States was completely ineffective. Luckily, there is a new generation of anti-parasitics that are available in South America. I would recommend taking Colufase (Nitazoxanida) 500 mg twice a day for three days. It will clean up just about any parasite (giardia, roundworms, tapeworms, etc.) you encounter during your mongering forays or on the Camino Inka to MacchuPicchu.

    Cusco Rules!

For those of you that have been living under a rock, Cusco beat Brazil last night in the Quarter Finals of the South American Cup. The town went ballistic and everyone had a blast in the Plaza de Armas until dawn. Everyone let loose and I never met so many wild cholitas.

JWadd where are you? DDM got me some tickets to the game (scalpers were asking outrageous prices) and he had a few extra for fellow mongers. We are all going to get together for an american-style Halloween party tomorrow. Are you game? Give me a shout if you are up to it. You will be able to meet dozens of willing cholitas there.

    Hey Dan,

It's nice to be reading great things about you here. How long will you be in Cusco? I am making plans to be there soon. It will be nice to see you again.

Heya guys: It's about 6 p.m. right now and I'm on my way to check out that chongo DDM recommended (santutis). I'll probably be the only gringo there.

If we miss there, let's try to hook up later tonight. Mama Africa's? Around 1030-11?

I'm a 6'2" gringo with short brown hair. I'll be wearing a tight-fitting blue long-sleeve shirt with white patches under the armpits. If you get there a little late, say 1130, I'll be the big gringo on top of the bar doing the bull-dog flex for a crowd of on-lookers.

    Shout back here,
    JW

    JWadd,

We're here in Cusco busy chasing cholitas. We're the hell are you? Actually there are quite a few fellow mongers that follow the WSG Forum here in Cusco. Most are lurkers that I met through DanDaMan. Let us know where you are staying or how to contact you. Please contact me via the WSG Forum's Private Message system.

Have you contacted DanDaMan? He rules this town. If you want to find DDM, look for the guy with a trail of cholitas following him. Everyone here (locals included) seems to know him. DanDaMan is a great guy! Very generous and popular with the locals (especially the cholitas). It seems everyone here wants to learn english and DDM has been helping them by giving them free CDs with english lessons. The english schools here really suck. I've met girls here who have studied english for 3 years and still can't correctly pronounce a single word of english.

Most of the mongers here spend their time in clubs like Kamikazi, Mama Africa, and Mama Amerika. There clubs are full of britcheras that like to tease gringos and get commissions from the drinks you buy them, but don't like to put out. Shit, if I wanted to have women treat me like that, I would have stayed in the US.

I wasted a lot of time and a pile of cash on these britcheras until I met DanDaMan and he showed me where the action is. He even set me up with some of his cholita girlfriends. My spanish wasn't very good, but DDM turned me on to some CDs with spanish lessons (Pimsleur, Rosetta Stone, and Michel Thomas) and now my cholita-chasing ability has greatly improved.

Cusco is very inexpensive, if you know where to go. DDM showed me the ropes and now I'm spending a fraction of what I was spending before on basics and pussy. He knows the best hotels, restaurants, and clubs. He even saved me a bundle on the Camino Inka tour to MacchuPicchu which I thought was going to cost $1000. He got me a great 4-day tour for under $190. I had some friends that got a cheaper tour, but it sucked and they ended up in the hospital with tubes hanging out of their arms from food poisoning and never saw MacchuPicchu. You really have to know what you are doing here to prevent getting taken advantage of, and thanks to DDM, now I'm in the know.

If you are lucky enough to come to Cusco and hang with DDM, try to repay him by picking up his tabs. He will save you a ton of cash. He was just too generous with me, often picking up both my and my cholita's tabs. DDM I owe you big time!

Thanks to fellow mongers like DDM, Cusco is becoming a prime monger destination.

ddm, now look what you've done! that "king of the jungle" life style has me frothing at the mouth. next you'll be telling me the chicas are feeding you grapes. ;-)

well, i'd love to join you sooner, but won't be out that way untill early dec. we'll probably pass each other in the air, or something. i think after such great reviews, i will definately need to seek additional travel plans to cuzco from manaus. however, the route you mentioned, while romatic may take a little longer between cities than i am prepared for. but its worth consideration since i am in no real hurry and hoping to be in brazil for about 3 months.

drop me a line detailing the cuzco to iquitos (via lima, by motorboat "rapido" from iquitos) to leticia (columbia / tabatinga) to manuas (brazil) routing. not what i had planned, but i can be flexible. is the action in iquitos and leticia worth a gander off the beaten jungle track?

    ciao
    spidy

ps: as king a expect you treat your loyal subjects well and even a good spanking now and again! ;-)

ps: just finished reading a previous post from cutting edge in the manaus section and he details some of the travel arrangements i was looking for from manaus to cuzco (more or less). but drop me a line if you have anything to add.

    Hi Spidy,

I'm glad you appreciate what I am trying to tell the world - South America and it's beautiful women are "ripe for the picking."

The route you have outlined (Manaus to Cuzco) is the opposite of what I have planned. I found out you can fly from Cuzco to Iquitos (via Lima) for $68, take a motorboat ("rapido") from Iquitos to Leticia, Columbia / Tabatinga, Brazil for $50, and then fly or float down the Amazon River to Manaus. Leticia is suppose to be a wild party town in the middle of the jungle.

My only problem is leaving Cuzco. I just like it here too much. I have a large beautiful room with a cathedral-ceiling that would make Conrad Hilton blush located just two blocks from the Plaza de Armas for $4 per night. A good multiple course meal costs less than a dollar; the beautiful chicas at La Curva are asking $3 for full service. My biggest challenge here is finding time for all the girlfriend action. I just love these cholitas!

    DDM,

Great stuff!! Kudos to you and your adventures, I enjoyed every minute! Great bedtime stories!

Do you know if it possible to fly from Manaus-Brazil to Peru-Lima or Cuzco?

"Bricheras." That's what the locals call the girls that roam the Plaza de Armas and discos searching for gringos. Most of the bricheras are young beautiful women from Lima that come to Cuzco and make a living off the tourist trade. Bricheras are not your typical semi-pros that your find at clubs like Tequila Rocks in Lima. Usually they do not ask for money and are paid with drinks and dining out. By South American standards, this entitles you to getting laid. If you don't get laid, you have been cheated. Normally, a peruvian man will be pissed and feel cheated if he buys a girl drinks and takes her out to dinner without getting laid. I asked the locals about bricheras and most told me they were not dangerous, but to be cautious because they have a habit of stealing valuables from gringos. However, it is rare for the bricheras in Cuzco to drug men and rip them off which is quite common in places like Columbia and Lima. Usually I avoid women such as these and opt for girlfriend action, but I made an exception yesterday when two fellow mongers and I hung out together with some bricheras.

My monger friends had been in Cuzco for over a week and had done most of the tourist activities (Camino Inka, Macchu Picchu, Apurimac River rafting, etc.) and were ready for a little action. They met two bricheras named Gabriela and Elizabeth who work as a street hawkers handing out flyers for Mama Amerika. Both are young, quite beautiful and speak some english. My friends where incredibly generous to them and even bought Gabriela a coat to keep her warm while hawking gringos in the street. By the time I met these girls they had spent a considerable amount of time with my friends who had yet to be laid. I tried to explain to my friends South American etiquette and tagged along with them as we enjoyed the company of these bricheras.

We met them in the afternoon in the Plaza de Armas near the fountain. In addition to Gabriela and Elizabeth, there was four other bricheras who followed us like puppy dogs every place we went. First we walked a short distant to the Convento de Santo Domingo (Koricancha). Koricancha is both the ruins of the Templo del Sol and a convent for the Dominican Order. We took Gabriela and Elizabeth into the museum and left the other bricheras waiting for us outside in the street. Koricancha really is phenomenal. The Dominicans built the convent using the original inka walls. The Templo del Sol and astronomical observatory are outstanding works of precolumbian architecture. After we left the museum and were outside, the other girls were still waiting for us. I asked a cop who was standing there about these girls and he told me that they were bricheras and weren't really dangerous, but to be careful. He explained to me that the girls don't want to be hassled by the police and consequently do not directly ask for money or rob mongers like real pros do.

After the museum, we returned to the Plaza de Armas and went to Mama Amerika. Our small army of bricheras followed us to Mama Amerika where we enjoyed a balcony view of the Plaza and some food and drinks. Mama Amerika is quite tranquil in the afternoon and you can enjoy a free movie on the big-screen TV while you flirt with the bricheras. I helped my friends who speak no spanish by serving as an interpretor. I teased the girls by telling them they were ripping-off my friends by not putting-out. Having had enough brichera-action for one afternoon, I setup a date for my monger friends with the girls for 8:00 that evening and we took off for some pro-action.

We went to the Santutis chongo (aka La Curva or Sol de Oro). Arriving at about 7:00, it was already dark and most of the girls were already busy. Best to arrive at 6:00 when there are more girls available. These girls do a terrific business and you have to be quick to catch them before their door closes and they are busy with another client. Prices are the cheapest in all of South America, ranging from 10 to 20 soles (3 to 6 dollars). The quality and attitude is the best I have ever seen. We lucked out and serving as interpreter, I fixed my monger friends up with two incredible young beauties for 13 and 15 soles for half-hour sessions. Finally, after wasting several days and over a hundred dollars on bricheras without getting laid, my monger friend got to experience some south american hooker hospitality.

We met the bricheras (Gabriela and Elizabeth) at their hotel (Hostal Conquistadora on Calle Plateros) and took them to dinner. I suggested a place off the Plaza de San Francisco where they serve creole-peruvian food. The cost for dinner and drinks for the five of us was only 36 soles (10 dollars) - much better than touristy places on the Plaza de Armas where you will pay at least four times that amount. Afterwards we went to the Makumba Disco Pub at Calle Meloc No. 443. The place was empty, but we had a lot of fun anyway and the bricheras found another girl to keep me company, but I had to spend 10 bucks on her drink. We left after a couple of hours and I left my date behind because the disco wanted to charge me another 10 bucks to let her leave with me.

Returning to Mama Amerika, the place was packed with gringos and wall-to-wall bricheras. Some of the bricheras were knock-out gorgeous. I spent the rest of the night flirting with the bricheras and learned a lot about how they are and how they work the gringos in Cuzco. I returned to my room alone, happy to have survived the evening with my budget relatively intact and dreaming of cholita girlfriend-action rather than limeņa brichera-action. I learned all I wanted to about bricheras, and realize they really are a lot of fun. For the most part, the bricheras of Cuzco are just young girls trying to do their best to survive under difficult economic situations. They are not spoiled like the pros and semi-pros that frequent the clubs in Lima and really are a pleasure to hang with. My only question now is if my two monger friends ever got laid by their bricheras.
