I was in Lima for the first time and stayed there for three days and got it all mapped out pretty well for what I needed during those three days. First of all, I did not stay in Mraflores but in a hostel on Plaza San Martin, it's called Orchid Hostel and is located on 959 Jiron Carabaya which in in a Lima District near the Centro. No complains, I was in a 6 bed dorms and only one night there was another person in the room with me, all the other nights I had the whole room for myself. People say it may be a bit dangerous in that area, honestly, I walked all days and nights, I was in Centro at midnight on two different nights and no-one bothered me. Lima seems to be very calm city except for traffic, they all beep those horns all the time and it's annoying. Second, money exchange, I was getting 3. 37 at all money exchange places in Plaza San Martin and that's probably what it is. Food, very disappointing, I was looking for a Peruvian restaurants after being told that Lima is a Culinary capitol of Latin America and there was none, two chevicherias, some Soup restaurants, one Swiss and one German restaurant and many 'hole in the wall' kind of places that I did not want to visit. But who cares about food, there is always Starbucs or McDonnalds that can do the trick.

Girls, I was lucky to find it the second day after google maps sent me to a different neighborhood when I typed 'Las Cucardas" and was walking through ghettos after 10 pm. I found it the next morning and it was OK I would Say, I really compare everything down there in South America to Medellin's "Casa New Life' or Bogotas "Rosquillas" and Las Cucardas has a pretty good roster of girls but too expensive, 30 Soles to get in and then 80 for the girl, and they don't even offer BBB or raw like in Colombia, like I said Peruvians and Ecuadorians are very laid back. There was literally 70% of girls from Equador, and they are fine. Las Cucardas is in a heavy industrial neighborhood and can scare westerners but hey, it's ok, they know what you are there for and no-one will bother you. The next day (yesterday) I took a bus to LOS Olivos to see what "Las Sirenitas" was all about and was pleasantly surprised to find out it is actually very comparable to Colombian brothels of Bogota and Medellin. I had a native looking girl, she said she was Ecuadorian, like most of them, with nice, hard boobs and standard Latina butt. It was a hard choice, there was at least ten very good looking chicas, 10 sol to get in and 40 for the girl, so at $15 a pop, it's definitely worth a visit. It opens late, 4 pm, even though when you google it it says 9 am. Here is the best way to get there to LOS Olivos; I don't suggest tax because of very bad traffic but bus, there is a central bus station around Avenida 28 Julio and those buses run on two dedicated lines and are not affected by traffic, it took me about 30 to 40 minutes to the last stop in Independence / Los Olivos and it takes 5 to 10 minutes easy walk to Las Sirenitas. One thing I'm worried about the Selva is the heat, and the lack of creature comforts. I couldn't find any baos turcos or anything else exciting. Guessing it would be hard to get things to a place with no roads. Saw a few reviews about small chongos in Iquitos but nothing bigger than 24 rooms.

Have you been to Ecuador? Is the chongo system the same up there? Calle 18 sounds like an interesting place, the Ecuador forum is just dead though.

Be more worried about the mosquitoes and the water. Most mid-price to high-price hotels in Iquitos and Pucallpa have air conditioning. In fact, as posted by Sly One in the Iquitos thread (http://www.internationalsexguide.nl/...=1#post1990756), the main requirement for picking a hotel is air conditioning and a swimming pool.

I don't know of any sauna there but, then, I've only traveled to the selva as a tourist and with my wife, so I didn't really have the chance to look for it. In any case, it would surprise me to find a sauna in Iquitos, when just staying out of the air conditioning will have you sweating like a horse faster than any steam room ha ha ha. Actually, just before writing this, I checked on Google "sauna iquitos", "spa masajes iquitos", "sauna pucallpa", "spa masajes pucallpa". And got quite some hits. Although I really don't have any other intel about those places.

However, and this cannot be repeated enough, do carry gallons of mosquito repellent and be extremely careful with local water.

As for Ecuador, I'm sorry but I have no idea. I've only been there once for a few days as a fishmeal expert consultant. But I was taken from the airport to an isolated beach hotel near Posorja (a minuscule fishermen's town close to Salinas) and was driven every day from my hotel to the fish meal plant and back. So I really didn't have the chance to explore. All I know about Ecuadorian girls is that they are, ethnically, very similar to Peruvians, that there used to be lots and lots of them in Las Cucardas and El Trocadero where they have been more recently displaced by the Venezuelans.

From what I'm told there are a few, small and very low quality. The reason is because charapas (selva women) are not only very open minded regarding sex, but also really really horny so you don't really have to pay for sex; or, if you pay, you do it with a girl you met at a disco or at a bar or at a restaurant or at pretty much any public place. Of course you have to flirt a little (not too much, really) and have a liking for the charapa type and the charapa ways (I do, by the way), but charapas are generally considered the horniest women in Peru. There is a saying claiming that charapas are like tin roof plates, if you don't "nail" them well, they fly away pretty fast.

Well, there is something you all should understand about prostitution in Peru. Prostitution is legal but proxenetism is not, and the law defines proxenetism as "to benefit from the sexual commerce of third party persons", and that allows for a very wide field of interpretation. In principle, anyone opening a chongo is "benefiting from the sexual commerce of third party persons" so. How can be legal prostitution exercised? This is how: A chongo is a local business and, as all and any business that is open to the public, they need an "operating license" issued by the local government (municipalidad). All legal chongos have a valid license for which they pay the local government a yearly fee and are controlled by the public health authorities.

Now, the people (and their authorities) in the northern half of the Peruvian coast are way more open minded, when it comes to prostitution, than the people of the southern coast. And the Arequipenos are the less open minded off them all. Tacna is a notorious exception and I think it is because of its proximity to Arica (Chile) where prostitution is prohibited. So that is why there are no legal chongos in Arequipa, the local authorities simply refuse to issue the operating license. The chongos you find there are small illegal joints with no sanitary control of any kind because, obviously, nobody is going to invest any money in a business that can be closed at any moment and survives only by bribing the authorities.

I think somewhere on the North Coast seems to be the best option.

There's a direct flight from Santiago to Trujillo on JetSmart (Flight from Australia goes to Santiago), and I'm still to explore Puira and Sulliana.

Though I did read about how scam-happy Tumbes is, hopefully, that is the only town like that up there.

Otherwise, it will be a town / city between Chimbote and Lima where Lima is in easy reach, although a 180 degree bus cama isn't too expensive either from further north.

Chimbote, of course, that was a huge oversight! In my post I forgot chongo Tres Cabezas (former Casa Rosada) in Chimbote, great place. We have to consider Chimbote in the "Other than Lima" category, right after Tacna and before Piura.

There is not really a good chongo in Sullana. Quite some years ago they opened Molino Rojo; new, clean pretty much like a smaller "Las Sirenitas" and they had a good start but, somehow they lost momentum, started losing their best girls, failed to attract new good ones and, the last time I was there, two thirds of the rooms were empty and I found the few girls present quite unattractive, but that can change anytime since the infrastructure is there and is good. All the chongos there are in the road between Piura and Sullana; El Siete and El Siete_y_Medio are close to Piura (side by side), La Colmena is across the road, a few yards closer to Piura, and Molino Rojo is in the same road but close to Sullana. You can visit all four in one day if you start early (I've done it).

Yeah with Arequipa out, the south becomes pretty barren, not worth the crazy mountain roads in and out of Arequipa. I'll do a trip to Pisco from Lima via Cañete and Lurin, but that's as far as I'll go. If I want to go to Tacna again, I'll fly.

Plus I don't want to repeat Ica, with only one chongo in town with no cover charge, the place becomes a free peep-show shit-show.

Los Olivos is on the rough side! I would slightly be worried there at night! I feel OK at Las Cucardas cause I been there about a 100 times! I've gotten used to the area. But I just have to realize Americans and other foreigners just ain't trying to hang in the hood!

It all comes to your definition of "small town". Cuzco Tacna and Arequipa, as well as Chiclayo and Pucallpa, are among the 10 biggest cities (other than Lima) in Peru.

If for "small town" we mean "less than 100,000 inhabitants", I'd had to say the best are Huaral (chongo Las Visitadoras), Barranca (chongo El Totoral) and maybe Ilo (chongo El Escorpion) although it is not that good.

If we go for "less than 200,000 inhabitants" We'd have to add Huacho (chongo El Manzano), and Pisco (chongos Villa Hermosa and Sauce Blanco, both next to each other).

But if we settle for just "other than Lima" I'd had to say Trujillo; there is El Milagro and El Quinto Patio (sharing the same parking lot as El Botecito and El Trocadero in Callao), there is Baha Rosa and Pantaleon in the same quality level of Las Sirenitas in Lima and very close (half an hour by car) in the minuscule town of Laredo there is the new Kamasutra VIP. Then there is Chiclayo with Las Poncianas, Tacna with Las Sirenitas and Las Cucardas and Piura with El Siete, El Siete y Medio and La Colmena, in that order.

Forget Arequipa. There is no legal brothel in Arequipa so the only chongos there are small, dirty and very low quality, illegal joints. Guys must travel to the nearby cities of Pedregal, Camana or Mollendo to find a low-quality but legally established small chongo. There are good chongos in Cuzco, Puno, Cajamarca and Huancayo too, but those are high altitude cities (a hard call for your hearth and your lungs to enjoy a chongo at an altitude of 9,000 feet or higher), and their chongos are not as good as the ones in Trujillo, Chiclayo or Tacna.

Of course, good, regular or bad is all a matter of perception and I've not traveled to all and every city in Peru, but this in my opinion based on the places I've visited at least once.

What places are you talking about where you put money into a slot? I always thought it was best to exchange money with the people around town with the green vests on.

All thru Miraflores there are these little store fronts with glass booths where you put your bills in a slot or opening and they almost right away give you your soles at a very good rate.

As far as those green vest money changers I only saw a few near the movie house at the end of Parke Kennedy.
