It was a quiet Sunday night so I wandered past The Canadian bar and thought what the hell I'll go investigate, take one for the team, as I was pretty sure it was a waste of time.

Reading a bit on Peru tops, the spanish speaking guys seem to think this is some great spot, and it is does seem to be filled with 80% locals for some strange reason I will never figure out.

They post drink prices clearly on a board above the bar, so if you bother to go be sure to look at it carefully.

Prices for your own drinks are cheaper than for the girls. So if you want to go and buy a Cuba libre it's about 15 soles, and a beer is I think 13s.

But if you buy a chica a Cuba libre it's 22 soles and a beer is 32 soles! (I figure the beer is more expensive as it's real, where the chicas' Cuba libres are just coke, or with a splash of cheap local alcohol.)

So to buy a cute girl (there are a few) a vodka tonic will cost you 22 soles, not too bad, but the chica will try to upsell you to something like whiskey for 47 s or more of course, total waste of money.

I questioned one chica before buying her a drink and she hesitated about answering me if I was going to get a phone number, or something else for my hard earned soles.

Anyway, always count your money from these machines particulary if it is in a small store or non-bank ATM and keep your receipts.

Two minor cautions:

I looked at the notes quickly, and didn't notice anything, but when i got back to lima, I noticed one of the s100 notes was a fake. A good fake, but when I asked in a shop if it was ok they said they didn't think so.

I'm just lucky they didn't give me ALL fake 100s notes.

So, stick to the proper money changers, or make sure you know how to spot the fakes (by looking at the '100' at different angles, it clearly changes colour)
