"Police: Dutchman confesses to killing Lima woman

LIMA, Peru – Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, long the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of a U.S. teen in Aruba, has confessed to killing a young Peruvian woman in his Lima hotel room last week, a police spokesman said.

Peru's chief police spokesman, Col. Abel Gamarra, told The Associated Press that Van der Sloot admitted under police questioning Monday that he killed 21-year-old Stephany Flores on May 30.

The Peruvian TV channel America Noticias reported that van der Sloot killed Flores in a rage after learning she had looked up information about his past on his laptop.

It said it had access to details of the confession but did not cite its source.

Gamarra refused to provide details of the confession/. Nor would the chief of Peru's criminal police, Gen. Cesar Guardia, when the AP reached him by telephone. Guardia said only police director Gen. Miguel Hidalgo could authorize the information to be divulged. Hidalgo's cell phone rang unanswered.

Asked about the Van der Sloot confession, a brother of the victim, Enrique Flores, told the AP "we are not going to make any comment. This is in the hands of the police, of the justice system."

Van der Sloot's confession came on his third full day in Peruvian police custody, on the eve of a planned trip to the hotel in which he was to participate in a reconstruction of the events leading to Flores' slaying, Gamarra said."

No doubt he will spend the next 15-20 years or so being someones ***** in a Peruvian Jail.

Definitely not the best place to spend 15-20 years of your life.

Van der Sloot is a Dutch citizen , not a U.S. citizen.

The American citizen being referred to was Natalee Holloway, not Van der Sloot.

In any case, there is now a charge under U.S. Jurisdiction - the alleged extortion by Van der Sloot against the Holloway family. But no doubt that is a secondary issue to the homicide in Peru, and, were Aruba to charge him, a homicide in Aruba.

Jaimito is correct, he wouldn't be extradited to the US because he never broke a US law on US soil. Even though it was an American citizen the US has no direct power over this case.

Well the shoe is on the other foot now. He couldn`t have picked a worst girl to murder. The father is HEAVILY connected, has lots of money and ran for President twice. Unfortunately in the screwed up justice system here, he probably won´t get life. More likely 30 years or so, and he gets a bunch of benefits for good behavior, so he could get out in 7 years. However, given who his victim was, I think that it is extremely likely that he will have an unfortunate and painful fatal "accident" before he is released.
