I have only been through a Venezuelan airport, so no experience for me in Venezuela. I should have went before they were asking Americans to get a visa. I'm trying to complete a visit to every South American country, but I will have to leave Venezuela for a much later date. I have been to a lot of countries and once in awhile I'll see some Venezuelan ladies. There can be quite a few found in Curacao. I have to correct myself. It is less than $50 USD for half an hour. I overpaid, $350 Suriname dollars for half an hour. With negotiations you can make it $250 - $300 Suriname dollars. Currently it is about 7. 7 Suriname to 1 USD.

The hassle of carrying that much cash is definitely a drawback to visiting Venezuela. I also don't like that you apparently have to apply for a visa in person (please correct me if I'm wrong).

The Central Bank of Venezuela proposed a new set of bills (bolivares 500,1000, and 2000, if I recall correctly) to make things easier, but our president rejected the idea, apparently because he thinks that would be accepting that the inflation is winning. Madness. As it is now, if I need to pay something in cash, I need to leave the house with a small messenger bag to carry the bills.

A solution would be to use somebody trustworthy, and have the guy be a "proxy wallet" of sorts, paying in bolivares with a Venezuelan debit card.

And unless they have changed it recently, if you are an US citizen you would need to apply for a three-month visa.

I went to Caracas and Isla Margarita in 2001, and lately I've been tempted to return. Incredibly hot women and ridiculously cheap. Caracas, even back then, was dangerous as hell. IMO completely different league than Rio or MDE. Isla Margarita OTOH seemed pretty safe to me. If I returned, I'd probably do what John is doing and just stay away from Caracas.

Yes, the current economic and social climate here in Venezuela leads to a LOT of weirdness like that. Taxi drives have to charge high because spare parts for their cars often can be incredibly difficult to obtain and the prices are absurdly high (a single tire can cost four or five times the Venezuelan monthly minimum wage).

And I always say it, crime-wise the big problem here in Venezuela is Caracas. The rest of the big cities certainly are not safe by any means, but also are a far cry from the war zone that is Caracas. As long as you stay in the good areas of the city, and use common sense, you shouldn't have problems.

Ok. So first day I arrived I got in Taxi and arrived Hotel Hesperia. The hotel does not seem girl friendly as much but at this point I did not care I was more worried about changing money. Believe me on a Sunday this was no easy task. So as I mentioned before I did change money first day at range of 850 bsf to usd.

Second day, Monday I talked to a guest of hotel and he brought $100 worth for 920 per USD. This was best I got, but not enough supply. So on Monday I tried hardest to get to Parlomar or to Puerto de la Cruz. Flight tickets cost was about $25 return but nothing is available, not even one seat but I was told it is due to high season.

So I asked finally what is option and I was told to go spend 2 days at beach near by and drive by car to the near city. OH God. I didn't want to even leave the hotel forget driving to another city. People had me scared shitless. Anyway I asked the locals and they said it's BS. Oh well I took my chances and I hired a hotel taxi driver and they charged $15 to go 1 HR drive in a small suv. This worked good. So going the distance made me much more comfortable with the area around Venezuela.

Now the worst thing that I have to say about Venezuela is only one thing and that is when you change $100 your pockets are physically not sufficient. God damn each 100 bsf is almost like 10 cents USA. Think about 100 US $ change is almost like 1000 bills.

One time I changed $200 and it was like needing small box.

Food situation is simple here people who don't have money don't have food but those who have it they have it all.

Only if I had done some research ahead of time. All flights were booked and I got stuck in Valencia, but this is my first trip to Venezuela and I never mind the learning curve. So far the way it is going there will be many more trips coming ahead.

Talk about bringing sand to the beach. I brought two colombian girls with me to Venezuela. Hahaha. Oh well. I would rather always have extras compared to not having any.

Ok. So I arrived Valencia today. Many people told me not to go to Venezuela completely as if I was going to get killed as soon as I get out of the airport.

I arrived airport and tried to fly to Isla Margarita or LOS roques. I have brought in two colombian girls with me from medellin. So only when opportunity persists I will look into getting girls here locally in Venezuela. So bottom line tried to find flights but could not so I found out which is the best hotel in Valencia and I was told Hesperia. So now comes part how to get taxi to hotel. The second room is sitting empty my girls from medellin don't even know about it. Now I am still looking to get money changed at any decent rate so I can book some girls. Venezuela can be very interesting but I will have to spend time here just like I did in Colombia. As per place being dangerous. OH well this 5 star hotel which seems like have over 200 plus rooms was 100 percent full yesterday. Some Arab girl got married in this hotel yesterday but even apart from that too many people here. Sunday is the worst day to arrive as banks are closed so not many people can get you money changed and flights stay full.

So far I am out $265. Hotel with 2 rooms ($125). Food I have paid $100 which it seems like I may spend since my lunch here was $25. Now we have had many mojitos and on top we have to have dinner and lunch. Money as always I am spending crazily but I count that as learning curve so I am cool with it.

But the place can be interesting for sure.

Tomorrow I plan to some how get to LOS Roques. I want to see the most beautiful part of Venezuela. Girls and all will always come as time passes. For now I am with two beautiful Paisas. You can travel by road on day time, it's safe. I take last February the road from Caracas to Barcelona then to Cumana and then to Isla Margarita, and the way back. It's was a long journey but safe. There are many police check point on the road, at least on day time.

I once traveled for Puerto la Cruz to Caracas. Started at midnight and arrived at 4 am. I arrived in one peace but I have to admit I was scared!

Is there an airline that flies between these cities? Perhaps a private driver? I'd appreciate anyone "in the know" who can give some guidance.

I know for certain that Aserca Airlines does not have direct flights from Caracas to Valencia (you would need to fly from Caracas to Barcelona, and then to Valencia), and I doubt any of the rest of the airlies would cover that route, the two cities are too close. The safest way probably would be to ask in your hotel to arrange a "carrerita" with a Taxi driver they know and trust.
