Explosive growth in the Dominican Republic Slowing Down.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) maintains Dominican Republic's 2018 economic growth forecast at 6. 4%, the highest projected growth in the entire continent. Panama follows the Dominican Republic, with a growth of 4. 6%.

"Despite the projected decrease for the economies of Latin America and the Caribbean in 1. 2% for this year and 2. 2% in 2019, the Dominican Republic will reach the highest growth of the Continent in 2018 and that although it will grow less in 2019 the Dominican GDP will be located in 5%, behavior that will be positive if it is taken into account that it will be in its potential, with a controlled inflation of 4. 2% and 4. 1% in the years reference, the IMF said. In its Economic Update report on the economies of the Western Hemisphere, the multilateral financial agency said in all of Central America alone Nicaragua will decrease -4% this year, but the fall will be lower in 2019, of -1%. Expected growth for Belize is 1. 8%; Costa Rica 3.3; El Salvador 2. 2%; Guatemala 2. 8%, and Honduras 3. 5%.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects Dominican Republic's economy will grow 5.5 percent this year but warns it could face adverse conditions stemming from a slowdown in the world economy, "although domestic demand could be stronger than expected, supported by a solid growth of income and credit."

The IMF mission issued its report at the conclusion of the Article IV mission of 2019 for the Dominican Republic, in which it affirms that to maintain the robust economic performance "a new push is needed for the reforms to face the pending structural obstacles and promote the country towards a more rapid convergence of income to levels of developed countries."

It stressed that the pending challenges include strengthening the supervision of financial intermediation cooperatives along with the banking system and continuing with the transition to international banking regulations and accounting standards.

For those of us with a interest in the Macro economic situation in the country this is good news but it comes with a big but (and I'm not talking chicas). Will world growth slow down? That's a big if. Because spending for travel will go down if the larger economies are affected by a downturn. Although that could very well benefit the Republica Dominican that right now both the Euro and the Dollar is strong. For the USD it's 55.5 sell today. Truly amazing given the strength of the economy in Republica Dominicana right now. But the national debt is putting a real drag on the currency and there does not appear to be the political will for the government to deal with it in the face of the next election. The positive for Republica Dominicana is that it will be cheaper for those holding USD to visit the country and if those visitors are based out of United States it's much closer than SEA (who wants to take that flight anyway) or Europe.

    The Dominican Republic's Hotel Boom.

So much for the people claiming the Dominican Republic as a destination is played out. Maybe for a certain part of the population that likes to visit the island. But for the rest of us well we see things jumping off.

"The Dominican Republic is continuing a full-fledged hotel development boom, according to new data from hotel analytics firm STR. The Caribbean's most popular tourism destination has a total of 6,200 rooms in construction right now, or 8.7 percent of its existing hotel supply. That's easily the largest number of rooms in construction of any Caribbean destination, followed by Cuba, which has 600 rooms in construction, or 0. 9 percent of its supply. That comes after the Dominican Republic saw a 6 percent growth in its hotel stock in 2018, according to data from the country's Ministry of Tourism. Last year's additions increased the Dominican Republic's hotel supply by 4,365 rooms. The country now boasts 80,256 hotel rooms."

Facts are stubborn things. Advice? Well that's often worth no more than you pay for it. But for those who may not believe me (critics) read it for yourself.

So why don't you go to Brazil instead? At least in the termas, you'll find many of these, speaking english.

So for you guys, how could a guy that doesn't speak a lick of Spanish get by in the DR? If its just not doable I will just go to the Philippines instead (at lot of them speak English).

Also any recommendations for how to learn about the dr's mongering scene?
All you need is money and you are the king in DR. You don't need Spanish to get by. You can use translator app to communicate with girls or learn few words that you might need to communicate and get through during the sex. If language is a priority in making your decision between Philippines and DR, I don't think it should be a problem. But if you have other factors weigh in, read both Phili and DR forums and make a decision. Anyhow, have a great birthday trip.

Thousands of mongers have a good time at Blackbeards or in Sosua with nil Spanish. But learn some for your second visit for enhanced enjoyment.

You only here for 5 days?

    1) Read as much as you can on this board, concentrating on your chosen destination.

    2) Start at Blackbeards as a foolproof introduction.

    3) If bored at Blackbeards (I was not, even after two weeks), move on to Sosua. There you will need some basic street-smarts if you have no Spanish, but link up with other mongers who will show you the ropes.

Many here prefer Santo Domingo or Santiago, but I would recommend learning elementary Spanish before tacking those..
    Much respect!

Remember that Eshu is known as Papa Legba on the isle of Hispaniola. If you are familiar with vodou you will have a head-start with haitianas. In fact you might want to seek out haitianas. They usually have better asses and are less predatory than dominicanas. Also, because they are an oppressed minority in the DR they are less likely to pull reckless scams as they are not assured of backing from poiice or locals.

    USD to DOP

Received 50.37 at Vimenca located in the La Sirena (Autopista de San Isidro No. 3, Santo Domingo, Rep. Dom) on 19 March 2019. Received 50.44 on my ATM transactions from Schwab on the same day.

The institutional rate today on 21 March 2019 is 50.7. The dollar continues to rise. Making your purchases here an excellent value (depending upon what you are buying).

It's an open. legal and freelance little town with a nice beach and some good restaurats and bars, and a couple of niightclubs, too.

Like you, I don't like pimps or mamasans, or flights of stairs and doors, between me and a prospective "date". I like to see them from all angles in public, before deciding.

Lots of opportunity in Sosua to do that. They parade by, smiling at you, on the street, or on the beach, sitting across from you at a bar, You can see them dance, and they will always be ready to join you and chat, if you so much as hold the stare, LOL.

If it's point and click you like, you can't go far wrong!
I definitly second Oakie. Sosua is the right place for you.

Are there upscale clubs like Tijuana's Hong Kong that I can chill at or is everything just small bars and street action?

I also planned on getting a room for play and a room for sleeping. Best hotel recommendation preferably walking distance from the action for sleeping?

Also, a bit off topic but I was considering going to Jaco CR vs DR. Thoughts? I hear Jaco is more expensive play time.
