I agree that it would be in everyones best interest to keep this topic alive. Reports from mongers returning to the U S could be helpful to the rest of us. Be safe. Sailor02.

Covid testing RT- PCR. North Coast

The Canadian Consulate sent me this morning a response to my query as to what are their recommended testing location and tests. I am only including those valid for the North Coast. By the way, CMC in Sosua only does the Antigen test. Not valid for flying.

    Good day,

Thank you for contacting the Canadian Consulate in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

We understand you have enquiries regarding the mandatory requirement for a pre-departure COVID-19 testing and negative results to be required for all air travellers coming to Canada.

Effective midnight on January 7, 2021 (00:00 EST or 05:00 UCT), regardless of citizenship, all travellers five years of age or older must provide proof of a negative laboratory test result for COVID-19 to the airline prior to boarding a flight to Canada.

    Acceptable tests.

The test must be performed using one of two types of COVID-19 testseither a molecular polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) and must be conducted within 96 hours of the traveller's scheduled departure to Canada.

    Proof to board a flight.

All travellers coming to Canada must present proof of a negative laboratory test result for COVID-19 at the time of boarding. Failure to do so will mean an automatic denial of boarding by the airline operating the flight to Canada.

This obviously may cause changes to travel plans to the DR for some of us. For those on this board who are familiar with Covid 19 testing in the DR, is it easy to get the test in Santo Domingo? I am planning on going there in 3 weeks.

As seen in the insurance form below, free medical coverage is presently provided until March 31st, for international tourists who fly into the DR and check-in a hotel. I wonder if this will also cover for the Covid 19 test. I guess it will, since the information that you forwarded does make mention of passport to be presented for the test. For more on this, google: Travel Assistance Certificate Safe Tourism DR Dominican Republic.
Reading through, for covid they appear to be asking a doctor's requisition as well as insurance. They also mention that IGG / IGM (no idea what these are as I believe only PCR is acceptable to the airlines as prescribed by US authorities) tests do not require that and also does not have insurance requirement. Hopefully others will chime in and the testing labs will wake up to this new business.

Where can I have a PCR test done in the Dominican Republic with results 48 to 72 hours before the trip back to my country?

The Amadita and Reference laboratories can perform the PCR tests at home so it is necessary to coordinate with enough time to schedule the visit of the specialists, since 48 hours are required to process the sample and deliver the result, according to the following guidelines:

If you are in a hotel outside of Santo Domingo, we recommend that you schedule the test from the moment you arrive in the country to ensure the availability of the specialists, so you can get the result when you need it.

If you are in Santo Domingo, you can schedule the test the same day or the next day.

Remember that you must present your passport to take the test. For home tests to be performed at the hotel, you must inform the reception staff so they can give access to the laboratory specialists.
