comparing it a bit with the town of Boquette (which even is much higer at about 2000meters above sealevel) in panama i can say that it was BORING,EXPENSIVE (many older ex-US militairy staff with higher fixed pensions) and I for myself never ever want to live in such a place.
I wonder if any monger wants to live in such a town because usualy hookers and the likes are hard to find here.
Apart from the fact it probably will be 5-10 centigrades Celsius cooler there are no known advantages;-)
Also there seems to be quite a chemical polution because of the farming.....

OO also a shortage on women..!! And with 45.000 citizens it will for sure not have an active nightlife;-)

There are NO major cities in DR that are at a high elevation. My memory is not 100% correct about this but there are two mountain ranges in Hispaniola. Both run through the middle of the island and are higher in Haiti than in DR. DR is more mountainous in the western part near the Haitian border. There are many small towns in that area that I don't think you should visit alone

If you like the cool temps of higher elevations, then I suggets you stay in CR or try Puerto Rico. It also has a mountain range through its middle and I have heard there is spectacular ecotourism in that area.

I have a question for anyone. I live in Costa Rica, so I am familiar with tropical weather. From looking at a map and doing some research I can see that there are highland areas of the DR. Are there any cities that are above 1000 meters? The DR looks nice but I don't like hot humid all the time. Or much of the time, for that matter. Any info would be appreciated.

Johan, I defer to you. You are obviously the expert on Amsterdam, as I have never been. Someday I would like to go, and when I do I will pm you and ask you to take me on a guided tour.

That is a pretty scary thought though, when you think of it - Johan and Ford together on a tour of Amsterdam! Many women are going to be in trouble!! (lol)

Johan is of course correct - weed should be legalized, absoulutely! I don't see this happening anytime soon in the U.S. or in Latin America. Too much money can be made by "shaking down" tourists and looking for bribes and pay offs. If you want to indulge in a few "hits' stick to Europe.

When I was in Honduras I was told that every 2nd taxi driver could get you coke. "If you asked for one kilo, he'd bring you two just in case you or your date ran out thru the night.

I'm afraid Viagara and Cialis are the only drugs I take. I'm not a drug taker - but an ice cold Presidente beer on the beach is a different story!!

Best herb in the world I tell you. A true miracle drug! I always get herb down in BC. 10 dollars worth will last u for a week if you smoke everyday twice a day on vacation.But you must know the right people. Front a tigre u trust(if thats truly possible) a small amount of money(10$s) with the promise that if he returns with an abundant amount of herb that he will be tipped well.How does this tie in to girls? Pleasure centers. All the girls drink and most smoke herb but are afraid to tell you for fear that you will look down upon them as drugees or worse yet, crack*****s! News Flash fellas! I am dutch...so i think i know something about weed.(LOL) let me tell you there are some (illegal offcourse) weed planters down in DR. HOWever they have to pay off some police officers...if you know what I mean. And in most cases trhey are all dominican persons. IF a gringo would do this....be sure he would NOT planting those wonderfull plants for long.....
I know OUTSIDE SD area and also up north there are some suppliers.....but please DO NOT ask me names or whatever as I don't know them.

In Colombia on several occasions i was offered a very cheap portion of cocaine. However as I am totaly against THIS form of drugs i refused politely and quickly moved to another spot. People many times asked me if i had some weed,because they saw me rolling my own sigarettes with plain (dutch) tobacco.(so apparently they thought it was somekind of marijuana or stuff like that...) However i would NOT be that stupid to import weed into such countries!!!!!!!!!!!!;-) HELL NO!

Setting up a small holiday resort with some weed,some great chicas in an very free manner certainly would be a great thing to do. I am sure it would attract MANY Americans,Europeans and even local gentry to feast.However the legal problems you would encounter would be severe. And I don't want to end up in a DR prison.....

trust me......if weed (ie marijuana) would be legalised (like it should!!) I would be the first person to set something up like i mentioned above!!!!

Untill then.....if you go to countries like the DR,Brasil or wereever please be carefull. Even a simple (nature based!) cigarete with some weed inside can get you in a WORLD OF DEEP SHIT. And i don't mean the shit you can smoke.

Taking A holiday in October. I'm not sure if I should go to the DR or go back to Amsterdam again. I've never been to the DR. Has anyone been to both places. Airfare is about the same for both destinations. Can I get any weed in the DR? Is there an abundance of girls to chose from in DR? Please help,

The two differences are the weather and drugs. Weather in DR in October 85 degrees F (29 celsius) Amsterdam in October? Its like 40 F (4 celsius) right?

Also Amsterdam is a very open free vacation place, the DR is very different!

Possessing a couple of those little "mota" cigarettes on the beach in La Romana could get you a one way ticket to "la bestia" (the beast). La Victoria National Penitentiary in Santo Domingo. If you can't bribe your way out of that prison in the first 30 days - they'll probably recover your body in one of the laundry dumpsters.

The better place to go? All depends on your vices mate.
