Quick recommendation:

Took One Tree Hill up on his offer for providing discounted airfare to the DR. My itinerary being ATL-MIA-SDQ, returning POP-MIA-ATL, since I was planning on hitting both SD and Sosua/POP area.

AA published fare, including AAAdvantage discounts, was approx. $500 for my planned itinerary.

One Tree Hill got it for me at $362 including taxes, leaving me with approx. $140 more to play with in DR.

He has promotional airfare deals on AA thru 04/17/04. I'd recommend you try him before booking your flights. Your trip origin doesn't matter. He can undercut published air rates, and he's not a travel agent, just one of us. It's a little suspect-sounding and requires a bit of trust, but he's a stand-up dude and dealt respectably with me and my info.

You might want to try a place like this, it not a dump & its in a guarded community in Sousa. But if its your first time there you might want to try places like Sousa Palace & Blue Dolphin, there right in the middle of town & easy to get around. No need to rent a car for those places, Casa Linda, to get the true feeling, you'll need a car.

Hi all,

Am looking at visiting the Dominican Republic April 19-24/25. I have heard differing opinions about where to stay. I can get cheaper tickets to Santiago, is Puerto Plata better. I am looking for a good hotel that wont give hassels with taking local girls there but is not a dump.

president dismisses threat of "unrest"

president hipolito mejia gave a rep001hing reaction to the warnings of the president of the dominican american chamber of commerce, jorge ivan ramirez, who said that the current economic troubles will lead to social unrest. "look at me - i am shaking!" said mejia when questioned on the matter by a tv reporter. ramirez, who is also the president of codetel, had described the crisis as the most serious the country had ever experienced and said that if the government does not start to manage the situation "in a more disciplined and equitable manner", the country's social order and political legitimacy will quickly break down.

** no currency in the world has dropped in value more than the dominican peso over the past 9 months! the exchange rate is no longer amusing it is getting downright unsettling! the dominican currency is sinking like a stone, and it can't be much longer before there is the inevitable spike up in crime. who better to target but the walking atm machines......the tourists. i will be back down in sosua on sunday. cuidado all!!

I'm thinking of flying into DR for only 4 days, quick trip.

Where should I go and stay. I would prefer somewhere/town near airport to optimize my time there, even if that means spending a few more pesos on chicas.

This website is helpful for those with limited Spanish because you can search for girls that put down that they speak English. Usually it isn't the best English but at least you can communicate. You can also get a tour guide/lover out of the deal and she will make sure you aren't ripped off because in her mind you are her man and she will be of good assistance. You will be surprised on how much cheaper things are and what the DR has for tourism. The botanical gardens, Diego Columbus' home, the oldest Catholic Cathedral in North America, museums, etc.

Joha is named Johanny and I corresponded and met/dated her in Santo Domingo and goes to University there. I have her number but she is very mad at me though I treated her well but I met her on Amigos.com and if she is still on there, don't mention me, or you will probably get nowhere. I had to block her off my email address, etc. Dominicanas get pissed off when they are scorned. She is normal girl, all girls pictured are all normal girls, no semi-pros/pros in the bunch. I only have one other photo of her that is about that size and fuzzy and is in similar pose.

I will fly to Santo Domingo and stay there for four days. If anyone else lives there, we can meet up and "explore" the country. You hook me up with a GFE type girl, I will buy you food and beer.

I read all the posts under the Santo Domingo section (only the posts Jan 2003 until the present).

I found a few hotels. Please tell me which one is the best.

In terms of cbeing clean, chica friendly, price wise, the surrounding areas (whether or not they have a lot of places to find chicas).

1. La Casona Dorada

2. Babylon Resorts (Someone named JimHart69 recommended this place and since they also have tours for the tourist).

3. Hotel Sajoma (Ventana Rio Lindo). Is this located in Santo Domingo?

4. Hotel Naco, El Palacio

5. Mercure Hotel (El Conde District)

6. Hotel Palaciao in Congesso.

My first choice is Babylon Resorts. Jim said to mention him to the owner and they will treat us well. Thanx Jim

Do you guys all agree that I should go with Babylon Resorts? Babylon is Chica friendly and is close from the casino right?

Hi fellow mongers,

New to the board as a poster, however I have been a reader/lurker for well over a year now. In fact due to the great reports I read here, I made a trip to DR (Punta Cana) last December. I intend to maybe comeback again this December and visit Sosua this time around. I am currently planning a trip to BA Argentina for early November. My other travels include Thailand and Amsterdam.

If any one is interested in a good deal on airfare in the next 4-5 months I may be able to help you out. I have lots of miles banked that I need to get rid of before I lose them.

I look forward to seeing some of you in December and you can trust that I will have some good updates in the Argentina section once I get there.

Thanks for the detailed information Wolverine7l. While even a rookie is capable of meeting some chicas on their first trip to DR, the path you suggested at least possibly leads one in the direction of meeting so called normal girls. However, I'm not sure it will help very much with those who have limited spanish as you suggested. Still for someone without any connections, its an option. Anyone else have proven ways of meeting normal chicas?
