I remember once I took a chica to Sosua to have dinner with a group of American friends and (other) board members. We arrived late and the lane to the apartments seemed blocked by a bunch of inebriated rowdies. My chica refused to take another step until I explained that these were the people we had come to meet!

Not a problem, Sir Charles. Our opinions are the product of our respective experiences. I will relate mine to explain my opinion.

I had rented a car (Budget, extra liability) and was driving through Nagua with a chica. I was at an intersection in the left lane, left turn signal on, waiting for the opposing traffic to stop, to make my turn. As the opposing traffic stopped, I started to make my turn, - and a motoconcho slammed into my door at a 45 degree angle, denting the door, tearing off the rear view mirror, and sending the idiot driver and his passenger sliding along the asphalt.

Oh shit! I was shocked, trying to figure out what to do next. I was thinking about cops, legal action, thousands of dollars, days / weeks in the DR past, etc, when my chica companion sprang into action.

She asked about the nearest clinic, and we began to load the passenger and idiot motoconcho driver into the rental car to take them to the clinic.

Thankfully, their injuries were minor, mostly 'road rash' from the asphalt. Both got treatment at the clinic, to include x-rays. I paid for the treatment, just wanting to get the hell out of there. (The medical bill came to less than $200 US, as I recall. I even gave the female passenger a little money, to keep her in a good mood). (I will keep the story short, skipping the crap I got from the idiot, who wanted his bike repaired at my expense).

Important point, the chica knew if the cops got involved, it could get really ugly. By taking those involved to a private clinic, we avoided the mandatory police report at a hospital. Likewise, we never saw a cop during the process. Once the clinic was taken care of, we continued on our way. I was out a little cash, but considered myself very lucky, considering the alternative. Thank God that the chica was savvy enough to spare me a horrible experience.

A shorter story. A chica-novia in Santiago berated me for exiting a taxi and opening my wallet to ask how much I owed him. She said I should ALWAYS pay the cabbie before exiting, as a safety precaution. (A neighbor of hers was shot to death outside her front door, and she has had several close calls in Santiago with crime, so she is very aware of her surroundings).

It depends on the chica of course. If she is clueless, so be it, but if she is smart and savvy, she can be your "canary in the coal mine" and save you a lot of grief.

Just my experience. I know well that you are a full time resident, and you have your own insights.

    Take care,

    Y69.

No hurricanes due in Puerto Plata in the near future. Thursday 9th Sept could be very rainy, but that is just one day.

They will say either: 1. Hello. 2. Hello, how are you. Or 3. Ramble on about some other shit. Then I will say well what about the question I asked? They will respond what question? I say scroll up you dumb bich.

Others will respond to it as if I asked "HOW are you doing?" Then there are others that initiate the conversation. They will say hello. I will respond with hello. They will say hello again. Then I will say hello again. After that goes back and forth several times they will ask you do not know how to say anything other than hello? I'm like bich you contacted me and you are not saying anything except hello..
Well spoken Mr. International I couldn't agree with you more!

First let me say that my observations can be perceived as stating the obvious to many who have experience in the Dominican Republic, but in this case I am simply sharing my anecdotal experience.

Casual sex or NSAS (no strings attached sex) in the United States is common. All of my sexual experiences in the United States before living in the Dominican Republic were either NSAS or in some level of committed relationship up to and including marriage. However the Dominican Republic is a totally different animal.

In my 3 years of experience living here I have discovered that most Dominican women want 1 of two things from an extranjero. Either they want a committed relationship that brings stability and possibly status to their lives to include everything up to marriage; or they want some type of relationship that is financially beneficial. The financially beneficial relationship can take the form of the straight pro where you pay after every encounter or the semi or soft pro who expects some type of compensation immediately or long term depending on the arrangement and the people involved..
What's so different about women in DR?

Women everywhere learn they are sitting on a ticket to economic security. Sitting on a gold mine, as they used to say.

But fair's fair, I go to DR precisely because DR women consistently offer more per interaction, short or long, than the hard biatches with baggage in NA.

I don't blame DR chicas from exploiting the one thing in the world that is worth anything. Their youth and beauty.

If they don't have that, then why bother? Stay home!

And the funny thing is they want to attribute their fuck up to god instead of taking responsibility for it. A chick I used to mess with in the Philippines recently got pregnant by a dude she had a one night stand with. She said it was a blessing from god. I said no. That was a direct result of you fucking somebody you didn't know without a condom. God had nothing to do with that. Now the guy disappeared and you are stuck with another kid to raise when you can't even afford the one that you already had.

And what do they usually say? In my experience all they would say is that you will be only mine.

    Thanks again!

I really appreciate all the time and thoughts you guys have shared both here and in the BB thread. I hope my trip does all of our efforts justice! LOL.

Trip report will come in probably a week from Saturday. You guys rock.

I only have a small backpack I am travelling with, and $ isn't too tight right now.

It looks like my original plan to go to San Juan de Manguana might be a little ambitious.

Any suggestions for 2 nights. I'd like to get a good hike or 2 in--and am in great shape / a real hiker. Multi day backpack trips are pretty normal for me.

Ideally, I'd love to find a chica that can also be a guide for me and get me off the track into some nature.

My last night I will spend back at the fancy schmancy hotel I picked out in Santo Domingo.

    One week:

1 night nice hotel santo domingo.

    3 nights blackbeards.

2 nights? (nature, girls, something unique to the DR? I want to learn something and get some booty while appreciating something different on our cool planet).

1 night back at the nice hotel in Santo Domingo to make it easy to get to the airport in the morning.

    Any ideas?

Again, I am semi-fluent in Spanish, well travelled, and open.

    Thanks Team!
Puerto Plata has little in the way of "nature walks. " Hiking alone in some of the undeveloped areas near a city might end badly. In a separate thread I suggested inquiring if BB can set you up with a horseback tour from one of the all inclusives. When sex tourism is less of a concern, investigate areas like Jarabacoa, which has some outdoor activities (Google it). Also, Pico Duarte, the highest point in the DR, elevation about 10,000 ft. It has hiking, but not recommended alone.

Don't waste time or money relying on chicas as "guides". 99% of them do not have a clue about anything outside their extremely narrow lives.

But taking along a chica for company is a different matter and can enhance your enjoyment. I always recommend taking a chica up the Teleferico (cable car. Another suggestion for you whilst in Puerto Plata) so long as it will be her first time, as there is fuck all to do up top otherwise.

Exactly what I am looking for. Only I want the scene that must exist, just like this one, but without the tourists. I bet the locals have a similar waterfall / hike combo place more remote and away from the general public's ability to get there. Everyone who goes to Jamaica goes to Dunns River Falls. But if you live there, you go to Reach falls not far from there: no tourists, more natural. Its like that everywhere in my experience. Thee's the hotposts for gringos, and the cool spots for locals.

I will look for it and find it! (along with some hot spinner Dominicans).

I wonder where the sexiest cutest women in the DR. Really are?

I think going to a place called Jarabacoa might suit you. Look it up and read about it. I think they even have white water rafting. It is also closer to Santo Domingo as you make your way down.

Whether you can find someone by fluke who would be a guide is a difficult one to answer. I know a person who lives close by and so could be good company but doubt anything more. Should that idea sound interesting, send me a private message.

Finally, I agree with what Mr. Enternational said. About car rental. It allows you the freedom and I have been surprised positively, carnally speaking, many times. However, as he too apparently did, it is important to wait and have a clear idea of the place and its perils, that way you are going with your eyes wide open.

Cabarete, a few minutes away from Sosua is noted for it's world class kiting beach, and great restaurants, and there are several dive shops around the Sosua area that will take you out and teach you scuba. Snorkeling is always fun and free.

One thing about the bus / taxi option is that you will be free to indulge the Island's popular pastime of tequila, Presidente, or something a little stronger, without having to worry about where you parked the car, or if it's stlll there!

The downside? No "learning" experiences with totaled wrecks, the cops and unscrupulous rental agents!

    Have fun!
