Just returned from Belarus after 1 month there. For objectivity sake a few words about myself and my plans for that trip. I'm over 50 and most women do not find me attractive. I do try to look after myself, staying fit and healthy. On this trip I was mainly interested in attractive tall (170 cm) Belarusian women around 30, especially those who seemed disadvantaged financially and had to do shitty jobs like cleaning or selling food in markets, etc. I thought that after the recent economic problems in the country due to the Russian crisis more women might be in need of a sponsor. I hoped to find a candidate for a long term relationship but would happily welcome casual sex. I hired an Audi in Minsk and drove around the major cities in the Eastern half of the country hoping that there would be more dating and mongering opportunities in the provinces. I'm a Russian speaker so communication was not a problem. My experiences described below may not apply to younger and more attractive guys who might be more successful with Belarusian chicks.

A few general observations about the country and its women first. The country turned out to be just as prosperous as its EU neighbors to the West. Roads generally are good, there are no homeless people, cities are very clean, plenty of new luxury cars on the roads (driven mostly by young women! (someone later told me that their rich husbands lost driving licences due to drinking)). While the recent economic crisis caused a fall in local currency by 50% and the average salary dropped to around $300-400 per month, the overwhelming majority of the population live in their own housing as the government gives free flats to people who cannot afford to buy one. Rental rates, utilities, and food are cheap. So nobody here is in any real economic hardship and the result is that young women do not need sponsors. There are of course, as everywhere, gold diggers but they are after dollar multi-millionaires who can afford truly luxury lifestyle all year round. I was also surprised to see so many young women with children in Belarus. Many more than one normally sees in Western countries. I guess this could be another sign that the country is well off financially. I was also told that the government was giving free apartments to women who had at least 3 children. Seems like that contributed to the jump in birth rates. Belarussian birds are generally tall, blond, and slim. Really high quality, despite all those ecological disasters that have happened in the country. The only common problem in them, as in the most of the population, is seemingly poor dental care. Perhaps this is a cultural thing as locals just think it's not important how they teeth look like. A very high rate of smoking among females possibly contributes to that too. The women are very conservative (despite this emancipation sign like smoking) and the smaller the town the more conservative its females are. Belarus is different in that regard from Russia. Russian tourists I talked to in Belarus confirmed that to me. For some reasons women here consider travelers as not worth having love affairs with, probably believing that the men will not return. Also telling is that I've not seen here old men with young women unlike in countries like Russia or Thailand. Belarussian chicks seem to have adopted Western attitudes to relationships unlike their Eastern sisters. Interesting that the population statistics indicates that there is also a small shortage of women under 35 in the cities. Even some young Belarussian men I talked to complained that their women are hard to get and courting them is mostly a waste of money. At one outdoor disco in a sanatorium (these relics of the Soviet era are still numerous in Belarus and are popular with Russian tourists, mostly older couples and women with children, who come here supposedly for 'medical treatment') I witnessed a Belarussian guy in his early 20's being very happy to dance with an ugly 40 yo single Russian lady and then quickly walking away with her holding hands probably looking for more intimate atmosphere. This happened while plenty of pretty local girls of his age were dancing around. The vast majority of nightclubs in Belarus have only teenagers and those in their early 20's as customers. The same to lesser extent applies even to restaurants. It seems once you hit 30-40 here you're supposed to stay home.

I spent only 1 night in Minsk. Stayed at the hotel Minsk and the security guard there suggested the Next nightclub at the Crowne Plaza hotel for girls for hire. Their prices are USD300 per hour and the girls were really 30 yo+ short women of average quality and short. The place was full of Turks as they dominate as sexpats in most of the CIS countries. Later on, after returning to my hotel the same guy also pointed out to me a lady sitting in the lobby bar who apparently could be my 'city tour guide' as he put it. The lady was about 30 yo, 166 cm high, well groomed, dyed blond, but not a stunning beauty by a long stretch. So I had a talk with her. She wanted USD200 for 1 h but would give a discount for a whole night at $500. She told me that she needed money to renovate her apartment and has just bought a new car. Then she went on to tell me about her recent American client, a sucker from Chicago, who spent a fortune on her. She did not seek a long term relationship with clients and planned to find a true love among her compatriots as soon as she has saved enough money to be independent in any such future relationship. When I told her that I was looking for someone taller she pointed out that large women have everything large in them.

Next on my itinerary was Bobruisk, a town of about 200 K in 140 km from Minsk. This turned out to be the only town in the country where I saw street prostitution. I stayed first night at the hotel Tourist and saw one Turkish tourist there. I thought that was a good sign for availability of chicks. The place to find street action is the bus stop on the right hand side of the main Minskaya Street right on the edge of the city if driving out in the direction of Minsk. The street there becomes a single lane highway and behind the bus stop one can see towering buildings of Belshina, a plant that makes truck tires. If you drive a few hundred meters further out of town you see on the right a sign of Eloviki market (and a road leading there) you've gone too far. Girls mostly seat inside the bus stop but sometimes some hang out on the opposite side of the road in front of the bus stop and as far as the war memorial a few hundred meters back towards the city centre. They appear there at 6-7 pm and are gone by the dusk. The girls I saw were short, plump, in their late 20's. Early 30's. Over a period of a few days I saw only about 5 different girls, so don't expect much choice. And the quality was low I did not get tempted. Prices start from 20 $ for short time. Their main customers are long distance truck drivers that drive through the town. I spent a few days in Bobruisk trying to pick up chicks in nightclubs, parks, markets, shops, on the river beach, and in local sanatorium discos. The result was zilch. Even the roughest 30+ yo women selling vegetables in the market did not want even just to go out with me after work. Reasons cited were either being already married or in a long term relationship, but they probably just did not like me. Some were happy to talk to me about their lives and none were in any financial strain. In fact it seemed just working a small stall selling tea or fruits in the market was enough for them to support their families and lead a comfortable life. I also went to a few nightclubs but did not see any pick up opportunities. Most of the clubs cater for teenagers.

On the way to Gomel, the next big city, from Bobruisk I stayed a couple of nights at a large Pridneprovski sanatorium, 10 km from the town of Rogachev, which has a capacity for 500 holiday makers. None of the women I saw there with children and without husbands showed any interest in making friends with me. Talked to one single lady in her late 20's staying there. She was from Belarus and while happy to talk with me she outright refused having any date. Tried my charms at some young medical personnel but only the least attractive one showed some interest.

The city of Gomel has about 500 k population. My first night I stayed at the Chisto hotel which according to tripadvisor.com is popular with foreigners. The receptionist told me that Turkish and Italian men (most likely sex tourists like me) often stay at the hotel. The next morning I was accosted on the porch in front of the entrance by a woman on high hills and high on alcohol who was clearly a sex worker. She was a Russian speaker but started talking to me in rather good English for some reasons. Told me she was 35, worked in Austria for 2 years (presumably in the same role), was single and had to look after her child. Several times she loudly declared that she was not a prostitute but immediately suggested after these statements that she would accept a 'gift' of $100 for her services. She actually had a room at the hotel paid by her customer who had left already and she invited me to come there before 5 pm when she had to check out. Her face was not bad for a 35 yo but without the high hills she was clearly below my standard of 170 cm and a bit plump. Seeing that I was not very keen on her she started telling me that any donation for her child would be welcome. I ended up giving her a rock melon that I bought a day before and she proudly left my room with it. Quite a character. Taxi drivers told me that there was occasional street action at a bus stop right on the edge of the city (just like in Bobruisk) in Rechinskiy street ('prospect') in the direction of town of Rechiza (the street becomes the main highway going West towards Brest) on the right hand side where one can see the last residential high-rises and just before forested area starts. That region of the city is officially called Solnechnaya. However, on all occasions I drove past that bus stop around 11 pm, as suggested by the taxi drivers, I did not see any girls. Perhaps in summer one has to come there later, after midnight, to find them. I did not bother to investigate further. A place for better quality pros, according to taxi drivers, is the cafes right in front of the hotel Tourist in Sovetskaya street. The drivers told me that there was one girl around 30 yo who was really high class and charged accordingly: $100 per hour. Girls are supposed to come here after 11 pm-midnight. I waited for them one night till 11:30 pm and none had turned up. As in Bobruisk I spent a few days in Gomel asking out attractive female traders in the local fruit and vegetable markets, my hotel room maids, waitresses, etc. Most of them told me they were not available and only some agreed to a date. Very tough indeed. If you don't mind staying out late at night you could try the Europa nightclub in Lenin's square (europaclub. By). Come here after midnight and you may be lucky to find some willing chicks. It's the biggest nightclub here and is considered OK for mature men interested in meeting younger chicks.

City of Mogilev was next. It's slightly smaller than Gomel but looked much more prosperous. And that prosperity was reflected in the attitude of women to street introductions. The situation here was even worse than in Gomel. Taxi drivers suggested to me the nightclub Forum at the end of Leninskaya street for picking up girls. But all I saw there were groups of firends and I was the only single customer. Lots of young birds hang around on the pedestrian Leninskaya street and the park in its centre. I saw young local guys picking them up occasionally. But these are not opportunities for older men like me.

My final destination before returning to Minsk was the city of Vitebsk. I befriended a receptionist in her late 30's at my hotel and she happily agreed to share a bottle of gin in my suite after 11 pm (she was on duty till the next morning). She was very easy going but not exactly what I was looking for height-wise. Nevertheless it was a pleasure to meet her. Apart from that the situation in Vitebsk, which is considered the poorest among the largest cities of Belarus, was the same as elsewhere. Younger chicks were not interested and older ones were either already married or too unattractive. Taxi drivers recommended 2 nightclubs for meeting chicks where guys of my age were common customers: Cafe Teatralnoe (Theater cafe) and Sobranie. Both are near the central hotel Vitebsk. These are tiny places though and again, like in other cities, most of the customers are groups of friends and there was no place like a bar stand for singles to have a drink. Don't bother coming earlier than midnight, except on Sat night when by 10 pm the places could be full and no new customers would be allowed in. The pedestrian part of Vitebsk, around Gogol street and Tolstoy street, and the parks on the river bank along those streets and in front of the hote Vitebsk are the place where young people hang out during the day and in the evening. I spent quite a bit of time walking around the area and did not see any approachable women except for one 50 yo lady who started a conversation with me but was too old to make me interested.

That's it. Treat this travel story as very subjective as others may be more attractive or luckier than me or come to Belarus on business and have therefore other avenues, more acceptable to locals, to meet beautiful ladies of this country. Or if one has lower standards things might look much rosier than they did to me. One thing is for sure, Belarus is not a great mongering destination for mature guys who come here as tourists.

I could not agree more. Well said. Sponsorship is the way to go and if you are wise, patient and treat her with respect you will have a sexy, young, university girl naked in your bed every night you are in Minsk and every time you return. Very good article and thanks for sharing. I wonder though, if the scared Lukashenka will really allow foreign tourists into his sacred country without Visa (and control). He might loose his power.

And it might be the nail in the coffin for this hidden gem for "sex tourists" and it will get exploited like Moldova. Who knows.

Thanks everyone for advice. Explorer, why did you get stopped?

Yes, I was stopped and asked for the passport by two policemen while walking alone on the street during daytime. They then asked me to walk between them to the next police office. People on the street were looking at me as I had committed a major crime. Afterwards, my business partners had to bring my passport and pay an administrative fee (aka bribe) to the officers in order to get me out of there.

I agree, it is very uncommon that you get asked for your passport if you keep a low profile. I was more than 20 times in Minsk and this happened only once.

Thanks everyone for advice. Explorer, why did you get stopped? I aso spent a month in Minsk once and never got stopped by police. I will get the visa just in case. When you rent apartments they don't care about the visa. Also if entering by train and if you get stopped you can say you just arrived yesterday from Russia (for purposes of registration say if you've already been in Belarus for more than 5 days). Visa is good though if you want to leave to another country other than russia and or if you leave via Russia you can then enter again since nobody knows you've entered before.

I have been to Minsk twice; both times for one month and I've never been stopped. I have even walked by police chatting in English with a Belarusian chick and they did not bother with me (a habit I try to avoid, by the way). Belarusian cops, or so I have heard, are far more honest and respectable then police in other Eastern European countries. So, it is rare to get pulled aside. However, not having a visa is a unwise practice. Sure, a visa not cheap but its better then dealing with the authorities.
