Regarding the driving conditions it is quite easy, just follow the locals. As everybody is very afraid to damage his vehicle (don't want to call it car) you should be save to follow them. One word to the Big (usually) black cars that are faster than the rest: They are usually local mafia or generally person you don't wanna deal with. If you see them go as right as even possible. Cops would'nt be on your side if come into troubles with these guys.

Other thing is that it is usually when you got overtaken that you drive as right as possible. Also if this happen on the other lane. Locals expect from you. But it is a nice feature 'caue so you can overtake by yourself without waiting for ages. Everything else is standard; Cars are left empty, don't leave anything (and I really mean nothing! ) in the car when left alone. I saw once that a car was broken into because of some cans of local cola!

Last thing, if you are in the area of a hiliday resort, be aware of the Tourist (especially germans) with the typical tourist cars. They don't know the rules and are more of an traffic danger than the locals.

The driving conditions are pretty bad. Many potholes, which probably will not be fixed by next month. Although the road Sofia - Sunny Beach is one of the better ones. Also a lot of agressive drivers with fast cars. So be careful.

Apparently it is much better to change € into $ before you leave, even if you're in Euro zone

€500 = $600 dollars (approx) depending on exchange rate.

Then change it to LEV when you get there!!

$600 = 1175Lev

€500 = 980Lev

this means you get nearly 200LEV extra! These figures are approx due to currency fluctuations but at present the rate € to $ is 1.22, the banks will give you approx 1.20.

I've just been given this info from a friend who has just returned and that is what he did!

When going to Bulgaria be careful with the exchange rate. There are many of these places that are a total rip off.

1 UK sterling is about 3 LEV, they will use a small 1 a bit further to the left of the 3, so it looks like a 3 but it is a 1.3!

Just got back from a short trip to Goldern Sands so I thought I'd give a small update on the doctor's excellent report. The resort is not as packed as previous years- someone said it was because of extensive building work last years which put off the tourists- not much sign of that this year.

The result, of course, was a glut on the market- hundreds of girls looking for work. Go to the bar right in front of Bonkers disco anytime after 9-30pm and fight 'em off.

Because of, presumably, local mafia control, all girls are the same price, 100Levs (50 E) for one hour. Add 20 Levs (10E) to your hotel and its starting to look quite pricy for this part of the world. However I've no complaints- all 18-27 years old and enthusiastic and one particularly, very depraved.

It was my first trip to Goldern Sands and by the end of the week I found out that up the road in Varna prices are about half. Plenty of people verified the gypsy stories.

Conclusion: I'm going again in September for a longer time! Hope to post a fuller report then.
