Just got back from another visit to Sofia and had a blast. Here is my update on venues

Dali/Azteca - Fantastic. Dali has an excellent feel to it. Really relaxed and friendly staff who recognised me when I went back for a second night. Coatcheck girl was gorgeous and flirted big time but I didn't get anywhere!!

After a few drinks I went to the strip bar at the back. Very small intimate place and they made me feel welcome - not many men in there but about 10/15 women with looks about 6-8. There was one 10 in there but she was Tanya, the waitress and depsite my efforts she was not interested and even rejected my offer of 1000 LEV!! She was gorgeous and very god at her job so consequently I ended up buying her, myself and and any other girl sitting with me drinks all night. They have two booths with curtains that enclose them for private dances. These cost 100LEV and both nights I was there I had one from Desi who was an 8. Velvet is owned by the same people who own Kama Sutra. Let me use a baseball analogy here, Velvet is definitely the minor leagues, a low AA affiliate if you will compared to Kama Sutra. Maybe 10 percent of the women were fuckable. There were a few gems, but the cows were grazing.

I didn't llike the atmosphere of the place either. It is basically one big stage with 5 poles situated on different levels. The women would progress through the poles and when they were done they would go over to lung cancer alley and talk amongst themselves until it was time to dance again.

After my frustration level escalated, I decided to check out Azteca. It was a bit odd because I was the only customer in the club. It has a long narrow stage in the middle of the room and a bar lining the wall to the left and couches to the right. After a short while one of the dancers came over to sit by me. This was not a good sign as it smelled of the old routine where she asks me to buy her a drink and I need to take out a second mortgage to pay for it. Of course she did ask me to buy her a drink, and since it was late and I wanted to find out if I could purchase one of the women I did. After some idle chitchat and probably around a 20 Euro drink, she tells me she doesn’t have sex, but she can recommend a fine specimen for my entertainment. Her choice wasn’t bad, she was tall and blond with a good attitude and a good time was had in one of the back rooms for 70 Euro. I would only give this club a marginal upgrade from the few real ripoff joints of Taboo or The Gentleman’s club or Fetish. Azteca has some of the same BS as those places but at least you can have sex with some of the dancers. It also does have the added element of being able to check out all of the action in Dali even if it is difficult to com***icate.

BTW, I heard about a very interesting establishment from an expat friend of mine who was taken there by some Bulgarian buddies. It is a house or small private hotel in the suburbs of Sofia, which has a small nice bar and cozy lobby. But it actually is a high quality brothel. After his friends and he had some drinks, a bunch of, according to him, young and pretty girls appeared. All were dressed very sexy and started mingling with the guest. After some drinks some of the girls got naked and jumped into a jacuzzi! At that point the guests started picking their companions for the night from the wet and naked chicks and disappeared into the rooms one by one. I did not get the price, but it seems it is more expensive from the traditional scene in Sofia. I would love to try it, but couldn't get the address or telephone number. Indeed, most of the strippers in the DALI "shop in shop" erotic bar can "go out". As always the very good looking ones "only dance". The price for 1 hour service "out" is again 100 Leva (similar to the other traditional bars).

However, the manager would not easily allow you to leave the bar with the girl, without having spend approximately another 50 Leva as consumption within the bar. That's why finally it's is slightly more expensive than the others. Of course it is much more reasonable than the Playboy, Taboo, etc where the hourly rate can exceed 300 Leva/Euros.

Hello fellow mongers, let me share my recent experiences about Sofia.

First of all, a friendly city. Not as glamorous as western European cities, nor as impressive as, say Prague, but a nice small city with good opportunities. Since it is not Western Europe, you should be able to adopt yourself. I am originally from Istanbul, so I guess I know how to cope with unfriendly taxi drivers by nature. But again, unless you are a dick that assumes anyone who does not speak fluent English is stupid, you will not have any problems at all.

It is not a problem to use a taxi. At night you would pay around 7 Lev (3,5 EUR) to drive from a far end to another. Drivers don't speak much English, but you still get to arrive where you would like to go.

I had a short time there, so I checked out only Velvet. To put it straight: I have been to many strip clubs around the world. What I call a strip club is more like US-style, with nice decoration, cheerful atmosphere, private tables,
where you can even take your girlfriend to have a beer. Velvet is not like that, with your first step you see what the place is good at: find your girl ASAP and close the deal. 5 dancing girls all times, with 10 or more sitting and waiting. Entrance was 5 Levs if I am not mistaken, and beer was another 5 Levs. Very professional atmosphere, not pushy at all. I saw 2 girls that were 9/10, 3-4 girls that were 7/10. Others, I could not see.

About regular bars & discos:
Do not expect much, unless you are a hunk that picks up girls at first sight, or you are fluent in Bulgarian. Girls I have chatted have spoken English very badly. I am fluent in English, German and Turkish, but that didn't help much when the girl cannot speak. Still, if you would like to try:

Escape (downtown)
2 floor disco, with tables and dance floor. 80's music mostly. Try it on Thursday, if you can. Admittance 3Levs.

Sin City (downtown)
A big, windowless building. There is a "lobby bar" (to me, it was just another lobby with music and a few people) and to the left there is a folk bar. This last one looked very promising, with drunk dancing girls all over, but you definitely need to have a reservation to get a table. Admittance 3Levs.

Jim Beam (Studenski Grad)
Good decoration. Bad looking, but friendly security at the door. 3 - 4 shifting dancers on 2 bars. House & techno music. Either you need reservation, or should be there around 23:00. Gets fully loaded, but I think it lacked the tension. Very unfriendly barmaids, who made us stay much shorter than we initially planned. Admittance 3Levs.

Tequila Bar (downtown)
For some reason this is the only security that gave us the "We are full" bullshit. Within a moment they changed their mind, and were ready to show us to our tables, but there is no way we would accept that kind of treatment, so we left. I suggest, spend your money somewhere else, where they deserve it.

Yalta (downtown-ish)
This is the latest and 'trendiest' club, I have been told. They asked 40Lev a person for admittance. Since this is 13 times higher than the average Sofia-price, we refused to enter. So if you go, be prepared. It didn't look very promising on the outside, but I have no idea what's inside.

I would like to confirm the statement below that DALI is a very interesting place for meeting people. It is a big and loud place, with mant "smaller" areas (bar tables) that allow someone to "flirt".

In addition to the traditional bar within DALI and the end of the club towards the kitchen there is "shop in shop" erotic bar (could be called ATJDEC or similar). It is owned by the erotic bar in Sheraton Hotel Basement, which is expensive. However, this shop-in-shop is slightly more expensive that the usual Kamasutra, Velvet, Cleopatra, Hot Girls and offers excellent quality of girls within a smaller space. I would certainly suggest a visit to DALI, have few drinks in a typical GFE searching environment, and depending on the progress you could then enter the erotic bar.

Yeah, Jim Beam Club is still good, better yet try Tequila Bar or Club Planet. Their both a block away from each other but definitely have good potential when they find out that your a tourist. I was there last August.
