Just wanted to give the report of the first day in Sofia. The best rates of exchange can be found in the casinos. The casino near the Sheraton exchanges money with virtually no spread at all. Go there instead of the ripoff places along Vitosha Bvld.

A note on the apartments. My buddy and I tried a couple of the apartments on Vistosha Bvld. One happens to be right above the internet cafe where I am writing this report! Last night we found nothing to our liking there. So we went to the one on 86 Vitosha. We pulled out 2 rather indifferent girls for 50 lev each for each hour. We went into this with the idea of switching after one hour. Mine was a buxom tall brunette and my buddy chose a blonde. We took them back to our apartment and got down to business. Mine was a general and tried to direct the action. She was also very loose. Neither allowed kissing or performed BBBJ. I was able to get off after a while when she finished me with a CBJ.

My buddy got the worst of it. Our bedrooms are opposite each other and after being in our rooms about 10 minutes, I hear my buddy's door open. I was in the middle of my session, but still curious why everything ended so quickly. When we were comparing notes afterward, I found out that when behind her, he saw what appeared to be a tick in her hair!!! Whatever it was, I was alive, brown and moving. He pretended to come quickly and sent her packing. A quick wash of the sheets later and we were trying to put the experience behind us. Having had that experience, we'll give the apartment scene a wide berth.

We later went to Velvet. The quality of the girls there is much higher than those in the apartments. We chose two girls whose names are written on paper in our apartment and will be reported later, as I don't remember them. They were much more enthusiastic and fun than the apartment girls, not to mention cleaner. We paid the customary 100 lev. My girl spoke better than passable English and I had a great time. Still CBJ but muh better service. I tried to make arrangements for my girl to come back the next day, before she went to the cub but she said she couldn't. I'm not sure if she's not allowed or what but from what she said, it seemed like the club doesn't allow it.

To add to anon74, it is true that Velvet has a flat located not far from the club at the corner of skobelev Bld and Hristo Botlev Bld: no extra cost to use except 10 lev tip to the madam, she asks for it.

I had to use that appartement once since I was staying at the Rodina hotel and it seems you can not bring girls from Velvet to that hotel because they have their own club.
It was a big mistake, run down appartement in a run down building, a kind of dirty matress on the floor. not my best experience, girl was also not so great.

So only If you do not have any other choice, use the flat otherwise stay away from that possibility.

I would say that in general hygiene is not so great in bulgaria and you are better off in your hotel room where all the amenities are available.

I'm new here but noticed some comments on Sofia, so I thought I would add my thoughts since I lived there for a while. Her are my thoughts about flats, getting a girl in an adult club, and girls on the streets, and call girls.

1. Flats

First, I noticed some people had mentioned they could not find the flats. I did not personally visit the flats, but most taxi drivers know where they are because they get a little kickback if they bring you to one. When I lived there about a year ago, going rate for a girl for 1 hour in a flat was 60 leva (probably about $40 at the current exchange rate)

Taxis are generally reliable in Sofia. Stick to "OK" brand taxi and you will never get scammed on price. Even if you get a taxi with a rigged meter, maybe you will be out a couple extra dollars. OK taxi is the official taxi at the airport, so go to their booth inside the waiting area at exit. Stay away from anyone who offers you a taxi.

2. Adult Clubs

Now about adult clubs and getting a girl for an hour or two there - you can at most all, but I would recommend one - Velvet Club. I know someone wrote earlier about it and was not impressed with the lighting. He is right about that part. But it is a simple and no pressure place and I thought the girls were hot. I chose the same girl the couple of times I went and no girl I have been with has matched her!

Girls dance on stage totally nude. They won't come over and harass you like some clubs. If you want a girl to come over after dancing, just wave her over with your hand. Seemed $5 was the tip for a full contact lap dance. You have a couple choices, but this place is easy going: 100 leva (at least when I was there) which is now about $65 to take a girl for one hour to your place or a place they have (never saw their flat). The club gets a taxi and once you get to your place, the girl calls back to the club to say everything is OK and then the clock starts. But I found it unrushed and usually time went over without a problem. I recommend Velvet because it is straight forward and you can take your time to see how the girl performs in the club on stage and for you before choosing

My advice after visiting a couple clubs is stay away from the ones in or near the major hotels. For example Taboo and Pigalle clubs next tot he Radisson are the typical places where they want you to buy a bottle an expensive of champagne and then maybe go to a back room. Not to positive about Playboy Bar or the places in the Rila Hotel. Definitely avoid the club in the Rodina Hotel - it is where the US military boys serving in Kosovo come for the weekend during their time off. Least to say, the women are not he best and know they can get some horny military boy to pay anything.

3. Girls on the Street

Unless you go outside of Sofia, you may rarely see a girl on the street offering services. I would advise to keep walking if you know that is good for you as most are gypsies or one who any legit club won't take. Outside of Sofia you will often see girls on the side of the road. These are also mostly gypsies who service truck drivers. Two words of advice: keep driving!

4. Call girls

As previous people have written, escort services are available. There are some that cater to foreigners and if you are not able to find them online, pick up a copy of the weekly English language newspaper called the Sofia Echo. You can find it at most news stands on the main street in Sofia, Vitosha Blvd. In the back are classifieds and I usually saw small ads for about three agencies. The Sofia Echo website (sofiaecho.com) does not list them in their online edition.

A few words about phone numbers in Sofia:

Those starting with (02) are regular fixed/residental phones. They tipically charge 1 unit / 3 min. You omit the (02) if you dial locally.

Phones starting with (048), (087), (088), (098), (099) etc. are mobile phones.
They are more expencive and SOME of them are known as 'impulse phones' (similar to the 1-900 numbers in the US).

On the West you get some notice indicating this is a paid service. But not in Bulgaria.
That is why many girls (in fact the most attractive offers) are just HIDDEN PAID PHONE CHAT.

They don't complain if you wake them up at 3:30 in the morning, and try to be nice, because it means money for them, can promise you everything, they will just NEVER MEET with you - This is not in the job description .... ) .

I think everyone of the contributors of the Sofia board has published all his experiences. So just read the board carefully and then check out some of the hints.

Many people in Sofia speak English (at least a little), so communication should not be a problem. And if a girl does not, join the next. As I mentioned in my reports, Sofia is a safe city. All the usual prices are published here, watch out not to get overpriced service.

If you are an adventurer, check out some of the flats or SWs, if not, check one of the clubs.

Do not change money at the airport (or only a small amount for the taxi), you`ll get 15% more for your money in the exchange offices in the center. Taxi from airport to the center should be around 10 lv (about $6) or slightly less.
