The financial crisis is hurting Czech Republic as same as other countries:

* Local companies are reducing their work forces, some even closed for relocation East.

* Hotels/restaurants/bars/discos are offering discounts (30% discount all summer seaon in an hotel, free entrance to different discos, up to 20% on all drinks on selected days in a music bar, 50% during happy hour in other bars...) or bonusses (2 for 1, free bottle of wine, free taxi home if drinking alcohol... in different restaurants). Some restaurants are remodeling their offers/menus (introducing cheaper menus/plates, offering free coffe & cake if ordering menu...).

* You can see now more and more empty commercial space troughout the city (including the city center - Prague 1) due to shops/business closing. Several projects are suspended (e.g. new restaurant Pizza Colosseum, new Fashion Outlet Center, several companies cancelled their option for commercial space in the renovated Railway Station "hlavni nadrazi"...).

* Flat rates (rent) seems to lower as well as prices for buying some properties (when owners need quickly cash).


Therefore some friends recently asked me why some night clubs (e.g. Big Sister) and privates increased their rates since the crisis started ?!? (the average rate per hour in private seems to be now 1500-2000 kc + cash for each extra while last year it was still between 1200-1500 kc including - most of the time - BBBJ/CIM/69).

DPP (Prague transportation company) and the City of Prague finally reached an agreement to extend the metro line A from Dejvicka to Prague Ruzyne airport. The contruction should start at the end of the year but all new stations will not be in operation before 2017.

Not exactly - this discussion is in progress for several years. There are several possibilities (extend the A line to the airport, build a new railroad - just like at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, and maybe some other) and each of them is supported by a large group of citizens. And of course, there is a quite large group of people who say it should not be built at all. Every time one of these possibilities seems to win, the other side of the crowd pushes hard to stop it.

And now there is a financial crisis, the city won't have anough money to build it, not mentioning the decrease of number of air passengers. So I guess there won't be any change within the next few years ...

Could you please let me know how could I go from the airport to city center if I arrive to Prague more or less 11 pm with the public transportation? With the bus + Metro too? How much I have to pay and how long will take this trip.

Also, any advise to find a hotel in center city, good location and safe? My budget for the hotel is Euros 60 to 80 per night, is this realistic during the summer months?

The Airport express (bus AE) is running from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm. It takes about 35 minutes to reach the train station Hlavni Nadrazi (central station) and a one way ticket costs 50 kc. The AE line:

Praha Ruzyne airport - Terminal North 1
Praha Ruzyne airport - Terminal North 2
Dejvicka (connection to the metro line A)
Masarykovo nadrazi (Masaryk train station - connection to metro line B)
Praha hlavni nadrazi (Central train station - connection to metro line C)


The bus 119 is running from 4:00 am to midnight. It takes about 20-25 minutes to reach Dejvicka metro station (line A). But keep in mind that the last metro is leaving Dejvicka station at midnight! One way ticket costs 26 kc.


Cedaz is also operating a regular shuttle bus line in addition to the "door-to-door" service (from 480 kc). The shuttle bus is running from 7:30 am to 7:00 pm only. There is only two stops: Dejvicka (connection to metro line A) and V celnici street (next Namesti Republiky - connection to metro line B). It takes about 30 minutes to reach the city center. The one way ticket costs 90 kc between Prague Ruzyne airport and Dejvicka and 120 kc between Prague Ruzyne airport and the city center (V Celnici street).


By car it takes about 30 minutes. Two companies have an information desk in the arrival hall (Airport Cars and AAA taxi). The journey costs about 500 kc one way.

There is a bus which takes you from the airport next to the hilton hotel. Can't remember the exact details but it runs most of the day.
