Just want to say a big "thank you" to MarkABC and Ziraell for their replies. This is very helpful.

Have been thinking about where is best place to get a local sim for my unlocked phone whilst there - make calls cheaper etc. Was just going to goto the Vodaphone shop unless anyone can recommend a better place.

The Vodafone operator is the cheapest one and for short use the best one.
Iam sure that there should be some places directly in the aerport ( f.e. tabacoo ) where you can buy the sim card as well. Maybe if you will ask the aerport stuff they can help you find the right place for sure.

If you have an unlocked phone, best deal is at one of the local operators. I bought myself one at Vodaphone, do not remeber exactly how much but quite cheap, there are several shops, one near Tesco.

I am venturing back to Prague in March with a fellow mongerer!

Am looking to use public transport to get from Airport to centre and know this is fairly simple, my question is that I seem to have read somewhere that the tickets have changed for metro etc. What is new durations and costs? Where at the airport can these be purchased?

Hi here are the new fares for public transportation in Prague since january 1st, 2008 :

Single tickets

Transfer ticket: 26 czk

Non-transfer ticket: 18 czk


Short-term tickets

24-hour ticket: 100 czk

3-day ticket (72 hours): 330 czk

5-day ticket (120 hours): 500 kc (new)

7-day (168 hours) and 15-day tickets (168 hours) do not exist anymore.


Long-term tickets

Monthly full price: 550 czk


Single ticket (transfer ticket at 26 czk) is also available trough mobile phone by sending sms (text message) with text DPT to 902 06 26 (new number!). Within two minutes you will receive sms confirmation valid as a paper ticket. Just show the sms with confirmation number in case of control by DPP inspectors.

DPP has information booth in the arrival hall of Prague Ruzyne airport where you can buy tickets/maps and pick-up information flyers.

There is also automatic machines selling tickets at the bus stops in front of Terminal 1 North (non-Schengen) and Terminal 2 North (Schengen). These yellow machines require coins (1, 2, 5, 10 or 20 kc)!

From Ruzyne airport bus 119 is running to Dejvicka metro station (line A) within 20 minutes and bus 100 is running to Zlicin metro station (line B) within 15 minutes. The one way fare is 26 kc.

Other buses (179 to Nove Butovice metro station, 225 to Stodulky/Luka/Nove Butovice metro stations and 254 to Dejvicka metro station) are called "Airport Express" and are much more expensive!

Well, I'm always surprised when someone trusts these rip-off escort agencies, aimed at tourists. I have to admit I'm not an expert when it comes to escorts as I use private appartments (with a single exception - see below), and maybe you'll really get the girl from the web, but let's count with me ... the basic price is 120 EUR/h, which means about 3000 Kc/h as the conversion rate is about 25Kc/1EUR. Just spent this weekend in Prague. I have to say that my expectations were sky-high.

1. First night I visited club k5. The club is very nice and no rip-off. The manager and staff are very relaxed and helpful.
