Yes just a personal record and yes I am over fifty.

It might indeed be unknown to the machine; your card company will convert. This is generally the best bet. Another idea is to buy some Euros, perhaps at your local bank, before you leave. I have just come back from 4 nights in Frankfurt. I warn you now that this report is going to be quite long.
