I just took the plunge and finally went to my first German brothel this morning. Tiffany-girls is a bit of a hike if you don't have a car in the middle of an industrial area, which seems standard.

It is standard. The German law on prostitution has always regulated where prostitution can take place. It is sort of banned in residential areas. Therefore you find it in so-called "Gewerbegebiete" (industrial areas). Hence the euphemism "Damen des Gewerbes" (ladies of the industry) to designate prostitutes.

The downside is that the places are often remote from city centers, train stations etc. The upside is they're located in areas where there's ample parking space.
