Imo, the three nicest hotels in Amsterdam are the Hotel De L'Europe which is a minute walk from RLD. They offer a swimming pool, sauna and Health club. Fine dining as well. On good weather days, there is a terrace bar on the canal, great spot for lunch or beverage.

Ask for a canal view room with a balcony.

The Grand is located in the heart of the RLD. Also has swimming pool, steam room, health club. This building dates back to 17th century. Did not eat in the restaurant there but supposed to be good. Again, request a canal view room

Hotel Ambassade is perhaps a 10 minute walk from main RLD. Consisting of a series of old Canal houses. It is like walking back in time. Has a library, sitting areas. Breakfast is expensive 18 E, as I recall but was of top quality and enough so that lunch was not necessary. Again, request room in front, over looking canal.

No pool but hotel owns Koan Float, a few doors down, where you put in a capsule and float, suspended in salt water. I was skeptical of this, for years and then finally tried it. It was amazing, super relaxing particularly for jet lag.

Anyone can use this faciility but reservation is suggested.
