There is a fast train from amsterdam centraal to Cologne Germany. It takes 3 hours. You could hop it at 7 am or so. (don't recall exact time) and step off in Cologne at 10 or 10:30. There are options back at 2 pm and later depending on how long you want to stay so you can go down and back in a day without changing your amsterdam hotel I have done this as a tourist.

If you book a few weeks in advance it's not that expensive. Be sure to reserve a seat as these trains are often crowded.

Look for the trains called 'ICE', those are usually the fastest. They run from Amsterdam to Frankfurt via Cologne, about 8 times a day. So without change.

Be aware though that there is quite often engineering works or maintenance planned in the weekends, either in Holland or Germany, which can make the journey considerably longer.

I am no expert but have been to amsterdam and used quite a few services. Here is what I can tell you.

1. windows can be a rip off some are good. Some are not but I am older and choose not to waste a pop on a bad experience.

2. the Privehouse specifically 118 provides good service in the 5-6 times I have used it. It's easy to find. The girls are not 10's. (6-8 mostly) but if nothing appeals to you, just leave. No one is ever insulted. 65 euro gets you 30 minutes a CBJ and CFS. 95 Euro gets you two pops. Personally, if you want 2 pops, I would pay the 65 Euro finish, go 50 meters up the street to a nearby restaurant bar for a snack and beer and go back for a second pop with a different girl for 35 euro more than the same girl for 95 (65+65).
