Piper,
Here is a link to a map that I found on this site that should help you tremendously.
http://maprldamsterdam.freewebpages.org/index.html
I would suggest that you buy a lonely planet map of Amsterdam as its detailed and will keep you from walking in circles or squircles for that matter.
As you negotiate up front in Dubai, be very sure to do the same and even more so with window girls in Holland, to be sure of exactly what bang you will get for your buck.

Posts: 231Breakfast at Kras ( Tiffanies)
Being a 5 star hotel the brekkie is one would expect to get in an establishment of this standard, excellent and high quality. Defintely not the few slices of ham and bread as is the case in less quality hotels.
What did blow my mind as I mentioned was the fact that one morning guests had to wait on line due to the hotel being fully booked out. When the Kras is full its crowded. The dining rooms can not quite accomodate a full breakfast sitting.
For those that like to eat breakfast out there are a ton of places that serve a mean bacon and eggs. One of the best in my eyes is a coffee shop called Barney's ( there are 2 ) where you can have a big fat joint, together with your pancakes, bacon, eggs and excellent Dutch coffee.
Cheers,

Piper its a pleasure man - actually I am also based in the Middle East and not that far away. I have always had these thoughts about Dubai.
Anyway the girls in Holland are a little more expensive then the $80. - you would spend in Dubai.
If you have the time and can make your way to a quaint town called Alkmaar
the RLD there is even more low key, lots of East European ladies, but that might have changed due to a clamp down on immigrations laws.Alkmaar is a 45 minute train ride from Amsterdam.
To get to the main RLD you exit the Kras main doors turn left and at the end of the block turn left again - its only a few streets away and very convenient in relation to the hotel. It is spread out though. Part of the RLD is at the back of the hotel. One word of warning is this particular RLD has gone down in value. I had some wild times here but there is better to be had. The experience though is not to be missed. If you have never seen the windows it will blow your mind away. Things really start cooking at night.
I will send you details of the Singel RLD I dont remember the street names but its about a 7 minute walk from the Kras.
As for brothels Vienna Massage is a keeper but there are others. I had the best experience from Women of the World Escort Agency, a lady by the name of Noa. Stunning Dutch student, classy, compliant and great company. That will run you close to $200.- if I am not mistaken and worth every cent.
If a window girl does strike your fancy you might beable to convince her to come back to the hotel but they don't really like to do that.
If you have the time for museums you might want to take in the Van Gogh although I think its in a gastly building.
If you have any more queries feel free, I have spent a fair amount of time in Holland and know the place quite well.

Hey Buzz - thanks again! (I replied to your brief PM before I saw your informative reply below).
Given what you said below, I might just stay at the Kras after all. I don't mind a walk of shame (I have no shame ). Besides, no-one I know personally will be there as far as I know.
Living in Dubai, it was automatic to ask if a hotel if Girl Friendly, as some hotels here are not (despite the roaring and inexpensive hooker trade - e.g. I pay about US$80 or less *all night* for delicious Russians, Chinese, Africans, etc).
My organizers already have a room booked for me at the Kras, so I think I'll just leave things as they are. Is it easy to get to the main RLD and the Singel RLD from there?
Thanks again for your help. Let me know if you ever come Dubai way. Happy to return the favor. No smoking (unless you want a year in the pen if you're a westerner, several years if you're not) but some great action.
cheers
Piper

Piper,
I have stayed at the Kras and had someone come and visit with me - nobody even blinked or took notice and there was no walk of shame.
The lobby is huge and generally so busy that nobody really takes notice and if you have an escort visit you then she will be dressed in such away as to be totally inconspicuous. But you might have to line up for breakast, I kid you not, it reallly happened.
If you give the lady your room number it should be quite in order.
At one if the hotels that I stayed at I was called by reception to inform me that I had a guest waiting in the lobby but it was totally cool.
The on-line site that I use for Amsterdam is www.bookings.nl which will also have a map to show you where it is.
There is no such thing as girl friendly - I don't know of any hotel that does not allow girls and I never ever had any hassle. Remember this is an enlightened society and so far the only country in the world where grass is legal.
Hotels in close proximity to the Kras are :
The Victoria ( across the road )
A-train hotel ( central station )
Hotel Toren ( a little walk ) lovely hotel
Golden Tulip ( Nieuwezijdskolk 19, Amsterdam)
Hotel Ibis Stopera ( Valkenburgerstraat 68) another of my fav's
Tulip Inn Dam Square ( very convenient ) porn channel !
Ramada Amsterdam City Centre (Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 50) I liked this one as well.
Radisson SAS ( expensive )
NH City centre (Spuistraat 288-292) quite close and I think just what you need.
Die Port van Cleve ( Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 176 - 180) very nice, classy.
Rho Hotel ( very close, just off Dam Square )
Avenue Hotel (Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 33) I have always wanted to stay here.
These are all quite close to the Kras taking into account that we don't want you getting lost plus not having to go to a great deal of hassle.
I would suggest to you though, that its hell to get a hotel room during this period in Amsterdam, so you might want to book a room in advance for the period that you need it.
If you like mixing grass and girls you wll have an incredible time, if not, you will still have an incredible time.
Good luck, have a blast, and let us know how you go.

Thanks for the Hotel recommendations guys - I will check them out. ("Girl Friendly" meaning they let you bring in a girl).
The convention I'm attending has booked the NH Grand Krasnapolsky for me and other delegates - it's supposedly the best 5-star hotel in town.
I have an aversion to five-star hotels, especially if they are full of people I will be making a presentation to after sneaking past them in the lobby with a working girl on my arm.
If anyone knows of a girl-friendly hotel, walking distance from the Grand Krasnapolsky, I will be forever in your debt.
cheers

Piper1,
I'm not sure whether you mean girl-friendly to mean a girl would like to stay there or they wouldn't mind if you bring a girl to your room. In either case, I can recommend the Jolly Carlton on Vijelstraat (2 or 4 I think). It's right at the Muntplein and next door to the Bloemenmarkt where you can get all sorts of nice flowers. It's about a 15 minute walk from the RLD, near some nice shopping.

Posts: 394Thanks for that information since I did not know that one could do this. Wow, essentially, we are talking 17 euros entrance fee plus 20 to 30 euros for the girl's "tip". Certainly a bargain compared to some of the other privees out there, plus the window girls.
By the way, just want to inform guys living on the West Coast of the US, flights from Phoenix Sky Harbor to London Heathrow via British Airways is only $600+ round trip. A round trip flight from London to Schiphol via Easy Jet is only 90 euroS.
