I’ve traveled to Amsterdam 3 times to monger. The last time was in 2001 when the dollar was at an incredible high and before the Euro became the standard currency. At that time I believe the Dollar to Guilder exchange rate was something like 2.5 NLG to the Dollar.

I was only there for 2 days. The bulk of trip was going to be in Prague, but since I was flying KLM and it stopped in Amsterdam, I figured I’d hang out and enjoy for old time sake. But in those 2 days I managed to see 12 RLD ladies all for 100 NLG for 30 minutes. All my encounters except 1 was before 7:00 PM and no later than 3:00 AM. That came out to about $40 USD per visit. Now I am reading some girls charge 50 Euros for 15 to 25 minutes. Talk about inflation!!!

Just a quick note about your 20 euro condom problem. Usually if you get very angry and say give me my money back the girl will feel embarrased and you can usually proceed with the business at hand. For you and anyone else going to A'Dam next time. There is a train station right under the airport which takes you right to the Central Train station. From there you are only a five minute walk to the Red Light District. Most of the hotels are not far away, either. A taxi ride from there will be cheaper than from the airport at any rate. Also, most of the hotels have some sort of bus transport from the airport. There is also a special bus that does a circuit of major hotels from the airport for a nominal fee.

Once in the Red Light district, DO NOT take pictures of the women in the windows openly. Otherwise you may get some thug hassling you. And, as you found out, you don't take pictures once inside, either. It's a major no-no and is mentioned in all the city guides that discuss the prostitution scene.
