I found Krakow very safe, it was mostly Polish this time of year and they don't seem to feel the need to prove themselves macho. Its rare for me to be out after midnight though, just need to get my beauty sleep else I turn into an ugly pumpkin monger. So yes very safe all round, but always be cautious, plus I very rarely look obviously drunk which helps.
