just spent a couple of weeks in warsaw.

most of my time mongering was in imperium - been reviewed recently, so i won't add much other than to say that there is also a little red light on the top of the gate so you know it's the place. also if you go there by tram, alphatester's map is a little out of date temporarily since there are some tram route changes. it is now 7, 9, 35 routes. this will probably change back when the tram system decides.

for budgeting purposes for first time mongers:

beers 6-12 zloty for half litre
hotel was 220 zl per night (ibis stare miasto) close to the old town.
meals including beers 40-50 zl for polish dishes/pizzas - steak meals much more. maybe 90zl.
airport is close to town so 175 bus (i forget, but about 2zl) is fine. i was quoted 150 zl by a tout - i just laughed...he is probably an unemployed merchant banker.
imperium cost me 200 zl for an 'hour'.

trams and buses - buy a 70 zl card from most small stores - that lasts a month, but is far cheaper and more convenient than buying individual tickets. trams are faster than anything else since most of the hobbying places are on tramlines, they run every few minutes, and are separate from traffic, so no jams like if you are in taxis or a hire car.

there were plenty of 'peep' shows around. i never tried, but does anyone have any comments on their worth?

For me it felt 100% safe and I walked to many apartments. Warsaw is safe (as any other city in Eastern Europe) as long as you follow common sense.

I walked several times late night in the downtown area without any troubles. I still would avoid the Main railway Station as there are no so decent people around (agagin as in any other city ion the world).

If in doubt use a taxi for longer trips.
