I am not saying the 400 e limit can't be done. I know it works for locals. I also know it is tricky for at least some of them, or else they wouldn't talk about needing two separate ATMs right next to each other. I also know it has never, ever worked in my case.

Depends on what you want to do, and how far you travel, although places like Sintra and the beaches west of Sintra are really worth the trip even if it costs a few bucks.

Pound for pound, I find Lisbon less expensive than Madrid or Barcelona, especially given that Uber is an option. I like Portuguese food better than Spanish food, with the caveat that they often serve fish with the bones in it. So you need to remember to eat slowly and carefully, and to not take big bites.
